Bar Raping... is it really that bad?

There is nothing wrong with using the bar. I believe it is an assist to those who both need/want to use it. The only thing is, you shouldn't abuse it's privilages (This is where I come in ).

I think the real question here is: why does anybody care at all? Does it ever occur to people that they're not playing to try to impress you personally, and don't care at all if you think using the bar is some kind of cheating? As for getting cheesed that other people might actually be impressed by someone that's using the bar, well, that's just stupid. Believe it or not, doing one of the maxes with or without a bar isn't going to make much of a different to the average person watching - they're still going to think it's awesome (unless you fail the first ten seconds )

I've noticed a lot of the responses here are like: "Well, I only do it on the maxes yada yada." Cheese that. You don't need excuses. Love the bar. Embrace the bar. Or don't. It's up to you. It's not up to the guy who thinks the bar was put there only for decoration or something.

I don't understand why there is so much dispute over this. As long as I put my money into the machine, I have the right to play as I want to play (obviously as long as it doesn't break the machine or violate any laws). Personally, I lack balance considerably. I keep a hand on the bar no matter what song I'm playing, whether it be Sexy Planet (From Nonstop) or Max 300. If I get less greats using the bar, then I'm going to use the bar. At the end of the song, I'm only concerned with the result. As I commonly say, the bar is your friend.

haha i find this pretty funny. Before max300 most of the people would flame bar raping like crazy mothers in topics similar to this one... but now everyone needs the bar for those "10 footers" and the world magically changes. Either ways thats nothing to do with my reply concerning the question though..
Ive never had a problem with the bar either. Its just STUPID when people start telling other people not to use the bar etc. I mean.. its really not a hard topic.. guy pays a buck for his game.. guy will play HIS OWN GAME.. other people should shut up about the way he plays his game. Simple as that. If its in the game its fine. Now some people complain about how it makes the game easier and what not(same goes for speed mods) I personally dont use the bar or any speed mods but i dont stop others from doing so. However if i see someone AAing a song at 1.5, i'll encourage that person to try that next time at times1. Im not forcing them or flaming them or anything.. simply trying help. Honestly, 1.5 on most songs IS making the song easier. A lot of people feel ddr is all about moving your feet.. but seem to forget about half of the game is being able to read the steps correctly. If it comes to the point where you can AA songs like say Healing Vision Angelic on Heavy using speed mods.. but cant pass a couple of 8 footers on 1x.. there's something wrong. Alright for some reason im really tired and im not making much sense so i'll end this fast.

I don't use speed mods or the bar, but some of my friends do. Even if it would help me pass songs I couldn't pass otherwise, I won't bar-rape. However, I don't mind other people bar-raping. After all, its not like there's a rule against it..

The argument about speed mods is very much the same as the argument about bar raping. (speed mods are not your friend) Bar-Modding (new word) is just a way for people to handicap the game in their favor. While this seems incredibly evident to other ddr players in the vacinity, to the average person the end result may make the bar-modder appear better then the other players. Which shows that the whole bar-modding contraversy might just be a whos better then who kinda thing. Where bar-modders think they're better then other players when they do a difficult song bar-modding and get a better result. Anyone can bar-mod, most people choose not to.

Meh, if you pay for the game you can do whatever you want. If you just want to hump the pad the whole time, then have at it; it's your money, do as you please.

Oh, and to all the people that thinks bar raping looks bad, I say that doing 10 footers looks pretty dumb anyway, like you're having a seizure. So just Peace Out.

I dunno.. i've seen someone do max unlimited without the bar and it looked pretty awsome. The guy moved his shoulders and arms in such a way to help him move his feet fast enough to the buttons. It was very cool Max 300 doesn't look half bad either if the person does it the right way. Bag doesn't look that cool but it doesn't look spastic either...

The bar is a crutch. Period. It helps you do what you probably otherwise could not. Nothing wrong with it, but theres a certain extra amount of skill required to play without it. So that if somebody AAA's Maxx Unlimited without the bar, they are definately more SKILLED than somebody that does it with.

If somebody has a problem with you using the bar then tell them there a f*ucking loser for even caring that much about a arcade game. DDR is a GAME for christ sake; people can play with or without the bar if they want to so let them do there thing. I'm tired of all those DDR nazis that have a dick up there a*ss about the ethics of DDR. If I had a nickel for every player that I've told off because they had a problem with a person using the bar I'd currently have 1.15$ just enough for a double cheese burger at Mcdonalds.
