So, I was freestyling the other day at this one arcade, no l33T stuff, I'll admit, I was practicing for this tournament coming up, and all I got were blank stares from this crowd. The blah reception I got didn't motivate me to keep going. It's kinda been this way where I live -- freestyle hasn't really surfaced in our area.
My friend said he got a few claps when he was freestyling the other day. He lives about two hours from me.
I was wondering, are people in your area more accepting of the freestyle, or are they wondering why you're dancing all alone?

The same here unless my freestyle moves also gain perfect attacks. _________________

Wow, y'all make it sound like freestylin' here is huge or something. Whenever me or someone else pulls off even a few little tricks on a platform, a nice little crowd magically appears. If I ever do anything particularly cool, non-DDRers will start congradulating, asking questions, and I've even had a small crowd clapping once (sometimes, it's kinda weird...not a big fan of clappers). |

It depends on what arcade you are in.
Some arcades are in out of the way places, or their own building. In which crowds aren't often because the people there are already busy playing/doing something else.
Some arcade are in conjunction with popular areas (such as theme parks) where you will get an influx of people passing through an area with no real place to go. That is where the crowds are the easiest, freestyle or not. _________________

The arcade that I usually play at I usually get blank stares from people because the Powerstation (arcade that I play at) is a family fun arcade...not really a gamers' haven....The DDR scene is actually growing here at Powerstation but still a majority of people that come are for the redemption games....via basket ball and stuff like that so I couldnt say much accept blank stares...that's pretty much what it is. _________________

I get some crowds sometimes, but the stares I get from people, they probably think I'm so idiotic that it makes them laugh or think I'm on drugs or something. Usually the people who compliment me are people who have never seen a mexican play the game before (in certain areas of the state) or have never seen people do catas or higher. |

That's basically it over @ PowerStation LB. Sometimes on the rush times on the weekends (Fridays & Saturdays), I get a crowd if I'm doing either freestyle or tech. More if I'm doing freestyle though hehehe!
Oh wellz ... L8z!

PA is what most people at my old arcade do. A few people would practice freestyle for tournaments and demos, but otherwise it would be almost all PA the rest of the time. The stares and looks we would get would be somewhat blank and unimpressed. Oh well, we still had fun. _________________

I got like 5 claps by a guy who was moving around the arcade to play Initial D today. That's like...more than I can ever remember getting in the past.
The Washington freestyle scene tends to be the suck. _________________

Well, no one, myself included, freestyles around here. If they did, they might get a good reaction...maybe. _________________

eh i get some claps, but the best was when i was at las vegas:
~i was playing at gameworks [HUGE] and the ddr was in an open area. I play a simple end of the century standard [with two freestyle moves] and i get a crowd. They start cheering "go go go go!" it was awesome. and at t he end the clapped.
o yah im 12 yrs old. _________________
