Assuming I could only get one, which would be the better choice? I currently have 5th style, 6th style, and a Konami official controller (which works wonderfully after being modded), and I am planning to buy Pop'n Music 8. Would I be better off getting a Pop'n ASC since the console releases are obviously going to keep coming out? The future of IIDX on the console doesn't seem very bright.

The main reason I'd want a IIDX ASC is for doubles play, but then I'd have to get TWO which is an insane amount of money for a single game. What's doubles like with two official controllers?

With regular Konami brand controllers doubles is totally different than the arcade. I would definately get a IIDX ASC because they are more rare than the Pop'N Music controllers. Think about it...if they keep making Pop'N Music there is still going to be a demand for the ASCs.

I'd be spending nearly $1000, possibly more, to purchase two IIDX ASCs. That is far more than I'm willing to spend on a single game series. I don't see how it would be much different, just space them apart the right amount and, other than the turntables being smaller/closer, it should be relatively similar. I have no problems at all switching between the arcade and the home controller with singles play.

definitely you must go with the pop'n ASC.. playing with the iidx ASC cannot be that much different from playing with the regular home controller. but playing pop'n music with the pop's ASC is the only way (short of building your own controller) to get anywhere near the true arcade experience, and it is extremely fun to play. also, the game is obviously more challenging with the ASC.

Dude, if you dont wanna spend $1,000 on a game, then i believe you answered your own question. E15.gif

Although, i most definitely would have to come over to your house and steal your IIDX ASC while you were sleeping if you bought one riiight.gif

I would get the PnM ASC as well.

It seems that you are more likely to get more use out of it than the IIDX ASC since IIDX has not been selling as well as Konami would like. PnM seems the way to go.

I'm thinking of getting one myself.

You say you have IIDX.
You say you have PnM.

You have yet to say what you like better.

It all boils down to what you want. Whatever controller's worth the buy, you should stop and think if you really wanted it. Future IIDX or PnM shouldn't really be the agenda.

Pop'n ASC, if you enjoy the game. There's a much bigger difference between it and the standard home controller than the IIDX ASC and the standard IIDX home controller, or at least I assume that. It really depends on which game you like better.

Yes, I was about to mention that.
If you like PnM, the ASC is Arcade Perfect from what I heard. The Original Controller is way too small.

I'm going to go with IIDX ASC for rarity.

I don't have any Pop'n games yet, though I've seen videos and heard a ton of the songs from various mixes and I like it a whole lot. I think what will really decide for me is whether or not this next IIDX CS release comes out, and if it does, if it's REALLY good (as in it has all original 7th, 8th, and 9th style songs, plus a few of the better licensed songs, with a 9th style interface). If that's the case then I'll most likely get a IIDX ASC.

get a popn ASC
you can use it in IIDX and is alot more challenging

plus you cant use a IIDX ASC to play Pop'n9 CS in the near future

I have both ASC's and if I had to choose only one then I would choose to get the Pop'n ASC.

An official IIDX controller compared to a IIDX ASC is not that different. The bigger differences that the ASC offers are the spring loaded keys, bigger turntable, and how far the turntable is from the keys. Other than that the official controller is pretty much the same, you can definately learn how to play the game and get your timing down with an official controller. You could even mod your official IIDX controller to make the keys more sensitive.

The official Pop'n controller is very different from the Pop'n ASC. The official controller is much smaller and the buttons are closer together, not even close to the arcade. I started on an official controller and quickly moved onto an ASC (because I suck at building stuff and therefore could not make my own). There's no way you could mod an official Pop'n controller to make it more true to the arcade unless you built a whole new housing for it.

If you're going to get into both games and you want to get an ASC for one game only then I would start off with the official IIDX controller and Pop'n ASC.

Ok, let's say the exange rate is 110 yen (give or take 10)
your looking at

For the pop n' Music controller 30,000 yen
30,000 / 110 = $272

for the IIDX Controller 28,000 yen
28,000 / 110 = $254

and say.....at the most, $25=$30 to ship both at the same time.
that would total only $556

for prices see : http://www.konamistyle.com/item/ctrl.html

I don't live in Japan, and the only place to get ASCs other than bidding on rinkya is shop.himeya.com, which charges $439 for each + shipping. Rinkya typically ends up around the same price when all fees are added on.
