I think I'm going to start IIDX my only question is if I get the IIDX controller that's $90 from japanvideogames.com will I have to mod it or do anything to it for better performance? Thanks for any responses! |

Not when you first get it, but later you will. If you have the money get a ASC, but if you don't a regular one is fine. _________________

Where do you get an ASC? About how much do they range from? |

Also, In what ways would you have to mod the $90 controllers? Is it really worth spending a lot of money for a ASC? |

You can pre-order the ASC from himeya for $439. Personally I think it is worth it, because the regular Konami brand controllers are going to stick whether you like it or not. On regular controllers, you will have to shave down the keys and continuously clean the controller. Buying the ASC is a big investment, but also a good one. _________________

Here's what I did to mine, and the variations used by others:

I've played on an arcade machine before, and I can honestly say I like this better than the real thing. The buttons are insanely sensitive.

I've had my regular Konami controller for about 18 months now. It's fine for me. I've only cleaned it twice in that entire time. Playing with clean, non greasy hands and storing the controller in a non dusty place will surely lessen to frequency of cleaning the controller. I've not shaved or modded my controller in anyway and was able to play the arcade machine with no problems other than having to 'unlearn' pinky scratch, which depending on your ability, is easy to unlearn and relearn when you get back home. I plan on getting another one for Double Mode in the near future.
I like the sound the arcade machine's keys make more so than anything else but FOR ME, coming from the home controller to the arcade machine and back to the home controller again was relatively transparent. I wouldn't mind a ASC, but unless you plan on getting all 4 (possibly 5) versions of IIDX and have the money to spend, I wouldn't bother with it. If you have the cash, then fine. Just speaking from my experience. |

I had to clean mine a lot because my fingers sweat like a son of a bitch. I guess it all depends on perspiration levels.

Do that and your official Konami controller will work perfectly fine. I did everything but shave the keys and my controller works extremely well. A friend of mine did the same and he only has to clean out his controller every 2 or 3 weeks. _________________

I'd just go with cutting little magnet circles like I did. It's super easy, 100% non-permanent, and can be done very quickly. I haven't had to open my controller to clean the buttons since.

I had to mod mine the day after I got it, the 1 key was already sticking...
I did the key shave and the magnet circles, and also added foam tape under the key corners (in the style of Ryan's mod).
Works wonderfully. _________________
