How is the 'Official Konami Dance Pad' that comes in bundle?

I was just wondering how good the 'Official Konami Dance Pad' that comes with the DDRMAX2 bundle is?

We have 2 MyMyBox Premium Pads (2.5b) and although they are still usuable, they are starting to die after 3 months of heavy use (sticking arrows and ghost steps). Would the Konami pads be an upgrade? downgrade? Should we avoid them to get something else (which is not that easy since we are in Canada).

I'd rather stick with soft pads since I don't really want to spend the money on metal pads and I don't really have anywhere to store them when we aren't playing.

The pad in the max 2 bundle is by far the best soft pad (ignition style included) I've played on. I let out a 7,8,9, and attempted maxx on it and it didn't slide or budge.

It was on tile at that point, so it probably won't budge on a wood floor, and you might have to mod it (tape to plywood) for carpeting.

I wish I'd gotten the bundle.

Edit: Lawl, my reg date is exactly one year before yours. Funny that my one year anneversary (post) here is to answer one of someone's first posts.

It's held up pretty well for the last two weeks that I've thrown into it.

From everything I've read about it though, it sounds like it pretty much destroys all other soft mats.

Mod? No, no...

I've done DROP OUT Maniac on hardwood, tile, deep carpet, industrial (hard) carpet, and it - will - not - budge.

I would suggest using it on industrial carpeting, as it is harder and feels closer to a metal pad.

If you look on the bottom, there is a funky pattern that is made of some foam-plastic-stuff that meshes with carpet, sticks to tile and wood, and protects the bottom from wearing (unlike my ****ed up cheap-o mad catz pad that I first ever got...)

If you do not want to pay over 50 bucks for a pad, get this one! It's official, so you know it can be trusted, it's great quality, and I got mine for $29.99 +6.3% tax...

I bought the bundle and the mat is not very impressive - it looks like the <$10 mats that you see on eBay (albeit maybe slightly higher quality) but it's not even close to the same as the Ignitions (and knock-offs) and Mymybox, etc with the foam insert. I was expecting something with a foam insert, zipper, etc but this is just a flat plastic mat.

I'm packing it up and returning it tomorrow. I would strongly suggest anyone thinking of getting this to just buy the Ignition clones or something from ebay. That being said, it could be that it's built very well and will last longer than those with the foam inserts - I'm never going to know since I'm not keeping it.

One thing to say is that I finally found a good use for that Red Octane Pad Bag that came with the Ignition.

And yes, I could play Doubles with it and the Ignition.

Actually, one thing I did with this pad, to see how it would work, was set it on top of an ignition pad, and it works good, doesn't slide at all when on top of it, and it obviously feels like an ignition pad, as there is one underneath.

I'm really happy with mine that came in the bundle. Unfortunately I don't have a hard wood surface or anything like that to put it on, so it still slides a little. But it's more resistant to crumpling or bunching up in a corner like my old one did. I had a Mad Catz one (I actually liked it) but then a... ummm.... "significantly massed female" used it and suddenly half my down arrow didn't work anymore.

So yeah, this pad's a great improvement, especially after having not played DDR for a few months. Oddly enough after being away from it for a while I've played better coming back to it (relatively. Still can't do heavys or half the standards).... wierd how that works sometimes.

all this talk about the pad, and i can't find any place that sells it separately w/o the game. can anyone tell me where to get it?

Precisely. I was impatient and picked up the unbundled MAX2... fortunately, my NAKI DPR2 still works well, although there is an annoying crease just on the lower part of the up arrow. Short of buying a second DDRMAX2, where are the best places to find an official Konami soft pad and the Konami DX soft pad... (Is the DX pad the one in the bundle?) What retail stores and/or online stores do you recommend?

My local Fry's Electonics has the individual pads for 30 bucks each.
The Konami DX Pad is the best soft pad ever made(its the REAL ignition)but is near impossible to find, unless you want to spend like $200 from toysnjoys.People have bought it from japanese gamestores for 60 dollars tho...

I have the Konami soft pad that was bundled with the DDRUSA from a long time ago. And I've played on MYMYBOX soft pads, Topway pads, etc....and the Konami pad is by far the best pad. If you compare the soft pads side by side (don't compare with the ignition pads, lol), then you can see that the Konami pad is a lot thicker. And the buttons are also more sensitive.

I heard that the one that is bundled with the MAX2 is even better than the old Konami pad so...

I haven't modded mine (yet?!?) so can't comment on that but out of the box, I don't think it even compares to the 'deluxe' pads with foam inserts(e.g. Ignition 2.0, DX, MyMyBox Premium, etc). It's just a thin mat.

The most obvious thing I noticed is that it moves like crazy compared to the foam pads. Also with the foam pads, I can easily tell if I'm on the arrow or not but not with this one. Also I've become used to playing on the foam and really like the feel of the padding; this one is very thin so doesn't give that 'cushy' feeling.

That being said, it could be that the electronics in it are very good and that if attached to a board (to solve the sliding problems) that it would perform very well and last long but as mentioned, I haven't tried that.

Personally, so far I really don't like it and prefer playing on my dying MyMyBox 2.5b. I would have already returned it (except that the store I bought it from (EB in Canada) will only let me exchange for something else (won't even give me a store credit - even if I only opened the box to remove the pad (the game itself is still sealed)) so I have to find something of equal value ($95CND) to exchange it for) (Note to self, don't shop at EB again).

The Konami pad is the best I had in a while. I've gone through 3 pads (Mad Catz and The Third Party One). It has lasted the best, the other two I had sensor peroblems, and they both moved way to much. This one is sticks great and is not a TON of money. Its worth it.

to me it is by far the BEST soft pad I've ever had the pleasure of playing on. it holds up very well and doesn't slip at all! I love it! I definitly recommend it!

STAY AWAY FROM THE NAKI DPR2! I've had it for a month or two and it has shadow steps, low responsive arrows, and a mind of its own(it just all of a sudden registers left arrows all the time when its not being pressed). My Mad Catz pad was exchanged for another mad catz pad which is still all right. After I buy my ps2&xbox mod chips, I'm gonna get one of those konami pads since you all say they are so great.
