"Celebrate"
i mentioned this in another thread, but i though i'd repost it in the correct thread:
you dont need to be gods gift to the dancefloor
you dont need to be the "goofy guy"
who cares what people are gonna say if you can't groove it like you thought, just have fun.
so long as you're enjoying yourself dancing, that's freestyle. _________________

Yeah...check out the Playland Tourney FS vids for these, they are awesome! Xiayu's website has them for now until DDRfreak gets them up...

I remember when people didn't like playing that song for various reasons. Now I wonder how many people are going to use it as a freestyle song in tournaments.
Hey Zrelmar - how about Emotion and 20,November. Those are decent-speed.

Well, you have to bite to eat at first. The thing is, it's ok to take bits and pieces of someone else's moves, but don't take their whole routine or become a mimic of that player.
Quote: | What's worse is that I've been practicing Brilliant 2U (Orchestra Groove) on light single for my routine but some people have been commenting on how it's too much like the A-Team's routine. I have watched the video a couple of times and I took some ideas out of it (like, knee drops and hand plants) but nothing after that. |
Do you see why people are saying it's too A-Team?
I guess I could mention the "if this were a dance floor, what would you do?" schtick.
Quote: | I also play Dynamite Rave but that's because I played that a lot when I was first started DDR so I already knew the song. But now I'm trying other things like Am-3p, After the Game of Love, Let the Beat Hit em' and We Will Rock You (actually, a friend of mine and I are gonna do a double routine to that one). But I really have no beat and I can't make myself look...graceful I guess you could say. |
I think someone else put it best, "You don't have to be God's gift to dancing." ...something like that.
Don't stop with just three or four songs. Pick a song, put it on Light, Little, Shuffle, Freeze Off and try to dance. Songs like e-Motion and Keep On Movin are cool and Put Your Faith In Me...eh, that's just me.
Quote: | And it's hard to practice when people say that you're not that good COMPARED to so-and-so or him or her (some random person that's REALLY good). Then they ask how long I've been playing and I say 3 months for FS and 2 1/2 years for Tech. Then people comment on how I've been playing for so long and I need more skill. Any way around this? Cause I really want to get better. I'm not FS for tournaments, just for fun. Any help will do! |
People's opinions DON"T MATTER. Wait. Ummm. Let me rephrase that.
To have people compare you to someone else is lame. Everyone is their own person and every freestyler is different. Just keep freestyling and watching dancing performances and ddr performances and you'll get better.

Well it depends on the song too. The Least 100 sec on basic can feel like it's half the bpm. Because the arrows are spaced out. _________________

Same with I'm Gonna Get You. While about 125bpm or so, the steps are spread out enough it feels like it's actually 65 bpm.
To all, I was wondering about this because I've asked several freestylers...when you prepare for a tourney or to make your big show off, do you watch other DDR performances to prepare? Some people have said they watch DDR performances to get an idea about creating a routine, while others absolutely turn away from them and watch MTV or nothing at all.
I do watch DDR performances just to get an idea on how to go about my next performance. I never watch MTV anyway, so there's that.
Others?

The last performance I did, the only reason I watched recent DDR videos (at that time) was to give me an idea on what the highest level of freestyle was...so I could try to make a routine to surpass that mark.
The way I prepared routines was like this:
1. Find a song or songs that caught my ear
2. Looked at the arrow patterns for these songs to see if they were "freestyle-able" (this is all based on your taste)
3. Downloaded the stepchart
4. Worked on developing/fitting in the big moves FIRST in certain arrow spots
5. Worked on transitions into and out of the big moves
6. Worked on any "filler" movements
and yeah...that's about it from me.

Heavy? As in no little? Well, freestyling on heavy is something impressive and it's not easily done to the effect that you don't look like you are teching the song. I would assume you would be doing a lot of sliding, and that end run, well... I have no idea what you would do with that.
But, to each their own. _________________

Well, I've been freestyling with my friend on "We Will Rock You" on Heavy. We do a little tech but we put spins, cross our legs and turn around and do a lot of arm motions in it as well. Not to mention the knee drop once and the switching of the pads. We switch twice during the song and then do fancy work with the bar (at least try to) at the end freeze arrows. We try and make it look cool...still in the works.
But I've tried Super Star and it is a little hard to freestyle on Heavy without little on. But then again, I've seen someone freestyle Am-3p on Heavy. All the Power to ya! _________________

hmm, the way i see it, the more arrows you've got to deal with, the less room you have to be creative with your footwork, and position on the pad. though i've seen some nice heavy/maniac freestyles, you can really only do so much.
then again, you've got MatsuriJapan Trick/Little and huge gaps like that, a little too much room to work with there. you start to question what DDR Freestyle is supposed to be, if it's supposed to be anything at all.
I think a well rounded step chart is best, as a guideline to postions on the pad, the rest is up to J00, WADATA1 _________________

Wow, I actually haven't tried it with little on. My friend and I wanted to do a doubles routine to that one but chose We Will Rock You instead...that might be a good idea though.
It's weird but I've actually never thought of using little on heavy songs to freestyle to until I heard about it on here. And it really seems like a good idea! But I'm very new to this so everything seems like a good idea to me. _________________
