Don't you think that would be hard to do? I mean you'd lose the rythm a lot...
I'm not trying to be offencive to deaf people, it's just that I admire any deaf person who can play DDR atleast at standard |

Yeah, I think I've heard(?) of someone on the forums who plays deaf and has to feel the vibration of the bass to judge his/her steps. I forgot who it was, though. _________________

Isn't that sort of like playing Street Fighter 3rd Strike blindfolded and you'll have to play by judging the various sounds the characters make?
However, in this case, it doesn't rule out the deaf from playing the game completely. You'll need to develop a really strong sense of internal rhythm, though, or else you'll have to go into a stompfest where it's basically a faster and stricter version of stomp the hamster.
I think if the sense of rhythm is there, then anything from 1 ft to 5-6 foot songs should be fine; as soon as the steps follow the music exactly (i.e. Xenon), though, it'll become very hard for people who can't hear the song - they'll either have to randomly guess or study stepcharts, either of which aren't fun at all. _________________

my dad is hard of hearing (he uses a hearing aid), and my mom is completely deaf, and she doesn't use a hearing aid, and they've played DDR a bit, my mom did better than my dad, even though she can't hear the song, at all. all you need is timing, i guess.
btw, i'm not deaf or hard of hearing. _________________

That's the worst part about playing in the arcade when it's too quiet. |

In a related topic, sometimes when songs are off in my simulator. I'll turn the music off and get a better grade (ie: So Deep, with music barely an A, and crazy misses. Without music, AA and 5 greats.)
I always wanted to try and PA something offbeat with the sound off. _________________

Yeah, but if they aren't blind and can see they can follow the steps. I don't think that's hard to do. If I remember I think there is a guy the name of tyzza who's deaf and can DDR. Some would know. _________________

I don't see anything with a constant beat being that hard for deaf people.. just time yourself with the flashing arrows in the step guide. Now, Dark mode may present a problem on songs without strong bass vibrations. |

Even though I'm not, I could probably play DDR if I was deaf. I turn the volume down on my TV sometimes when I'm playing and can actually do pretty well. Guess I'm a visual player. _________________

yeah, similar to phrekwenci's response, i have a few unsynched dwi's, and i do a lot better by turning the volume off. without volume i've had an 8 great full combo of paranoia survivor, and a 9 great full combo of Bag. I know those scores aren't very impressive, but 1) i suck at dwi and 2) they were without volume hehe _________________

i used to play with a guy in Ohio that was deaf. His name was chad, and he wasnt too bad. He could do catas just about as good as anybody. Although he kept using goofy modifiers, like shuffle, reverse, and 1.5. I dont think that he plays DDR anymore though. |

It shouldn't be that hard while the song is starting watch the arrows "shadows" blink to get a feel for the beat. Then just keep moving to the beat. _________________

Oddly enough, it's more of paying attention to the pattern. Even though the music is what most go by.
I've tried the same thing, especially when on the phone. TV or PC muted......... _________________

Why would ya'll be shocked or amazed that a deaf person could play DDR? There a world class ballet dancers that are deaf. I don't get it. Seems a little closed minded. *shrug* _________________

Yes, people who're deaf can play DDR. Not just feeling the vibration of the beat, but also, I'm sure that they could also be able to sight-read better, since they'd have no choice but to focus on that. _________________
