Do you prefer Speed Mods or Not?

I see speed mods as a handicap in DDR.

Because that's what they are. People who can't read arrows on Bag,Tears,BIMP,Sana,LTR,Orion.78 need speed mods to play the song.

I started out playing on a 3rd mix, back then you couldn't use speed mods. So I'm used to playing on 1x.

The best players in the world use speed mods and solo. So other people who want to be better use them.

I remember about a 1 and half ago speed mods and bar raping were frowned upon, but know everyone that wants to be good uses them. More and more people dont play on 1x.

I used to say speed mods are cheating and w/e..but I'm over it, everyone uses them, I'm sick of aruging about it.

What I don't get is people post I passed my first 10 footer Bag 5x and other people say oh it doesn't count. Then why the hell not on BIMP or SANA. But when someone AAA's Bag 5x, thats a awesome accomplishment.

I can pass Bag on 1x with a B. yeah I used mods to get to know the song on DWI ..but i dont consider an AA on 8x as a "real" accomplishment.

Speed mods disorient me.

The only times I EVER USED SPEED MODS.

Bag Maniac - 3x to Boost to 1x, trickle down learning method.

V Challenge - I LOVE the steps and wanted to learn them, but the beginning before the big freeze always tripped me up. So as a last resort I turned to 1.5 twice and then had it down.

I use 8x Boost with sudden to make cool special effects with the freeze arrows during "Breakdown" light, since I can stealth it anyway.

simply because i like to see the arrows scroll at that speed.

you're basically saying that given a choice, you will drive a MT, as automatics are made to make driving easier.

you will not use calculators on math/etc tests because they make things too easy.

i also believe you should play on stealth.

because seeing the arrows is cheating. they make things easy to AAA. I mean, can you AAA a song on stealth? nope, you need the arrows. who gives a flying fuck how I AAA songs.

Ah yes... speed mods.

Use them in training mode to learn rhythms on slower songs like Sana Molette Ne Ente, My Summer Love, and Secret Rendez-vous. I tend to stay away from using them in game mode. Anyways, when I train, and when I do use speed mods, I use 2x. That way, my mind will automatically interpret "1/4 beats" as 1/8 beats and "1/8 beats" as 1/16 beats. Allows me to see the rhythm much easier. (This might change when I train for Burning Heat on Heavy, so that the triplets become "1/8 beats") And sometimes I will set a x2 mod and just watch a song scroll by at rapid speed.
Anyone else like using x2 in particular?

I play speed x2 for just about every song I play. I can barely read anything on speed x2, because I can't get my timings right on the first few arrows of a run. I can read the arrows perfectly fine for foot placement, just not timing. But that's the way I enjoy playing.

If it makes you feel better about yourself to berate someone across the internet about the way they play the game and enjoy it, go for it. As it see it, that's just as "pathetic" as needing speed mods to play a dancing game were you move in 4 directions.

If all you 1X players think that the people who constantly use speed mods can barely read songs on 1X, you are terribly mistaken. The best players in the country all use speed mods everytime they play. And if they can't play on 1X, whats with all those high oni scores they get? Haha, or when some people thought Take or Yasu couldn't play on 1X, but they ended up AAAing songs like So Deep 1X flat.

If you've been playing DDR before 5th mix (I've been playing since '99 >_>) and you abuse the speed mods, I find that to be pretty sad. How on earth did you ever play the older mixes? If you're someone who's not the greatest in the world at some songs (V, So Deep, etc.), I don't think it's a 'cheat' to use a speed mod. Most of them are just to boost up the difficulty of a song anyways. I was playing Max2 and D2R maniac came up on 3x. I'm familiar with the steps but I got a good here and there occasionally just cos of the speed. It depends on how you look at the mods I guess and the people using it... So i hope that ends the quarraling... u.u

Seems like its easier to AAA songs on 1x anyways.... If the arrows had a little more colour to them (Not the icky solo colours though), I think speed mods would be nearly useless. Just throwing my 2 cents in.

Okay, I play on two different machines...and Extreme machine and a 4th mix..I use 1.5x on extreme and hardly ever get a AA... but today every song I did on the 4th mix I got and A(which is just like a AA). So I could prove that i DON'T have to use them. And you ppl who say it's cheating cuz it makes it easier... your wrong, if it was cheating it wouldn't be on the game, but I do agree that it makes it a whole lot easier.
