What, I ask you, is the point of DDR.
Is it to dance? Is it to make friends? Is it to feel accepted by something because you have not found it elsewhere?
I'm just wondering, what's the point of playing this game. You who spend 20 dollars a night to play this game, why, why do that?

Well, it's fun. That's the main reason people play it. After that, you make friends, which continually drives your motivation to keep playing. In some cases, you get good, and tournaments further drive your motivation to keep playing. But, overall, it's fun, and that's why most of us play this stupid game. _________________

I originally started playing because I saw two guys doing a hard song in perfect unison, that was a long long time ago. It took me 6 months after that to try it myself and I hated it with a passion, I couldn't look beyond the simplicity of the game and viewed it as too easy to waste any time getting good at it. But soon I got a soft home pad and a used copy of the game and gave it a try. In a year I was running my usual 9 minute miles in 6 minutes. It's hard to know just how deep the game gets when you first play, the patterns of arrows and complexity just skyrockets from being able to practically play with a blindfold on, to white knuckle speed and muscle crushing intensity.
Then... I started playing at arcades, I found a whole new bit of enjoyment there really, sure it cost a buck to play, but it was so damn fun when you get a small crowd that watches you (Even if they do make fun of you sometimes. Okay, all the time). Especially now that I can do the extremely difficult levels of play, the excersize, the music, and the lights, it may look like a lot of bouncing around at first, but once you get good at it it becomes a real challenge, and playing at an arcade brings a good adrenaline rush, especially for a simple videogame.
You're not in front of a TV sitting on a couch drinking a soda deciding which magic attack to use, and you're not in sweltering heat running a marathon, it's a combination of the fun of videogames and the intense excersize of running, it's all goal driven and challenging, and eventually it doesn't matter if that guy watching you thinks you're a nerd because he's seen little girls playing the very same game.
I wouldn't say I'm obsessed, it took me 3 looong years to become as good as I am today and it's really payed off well. So if you want to see what real DDR is, get up on the pad and put in a buck, play it on easy mode and just bounce around, even if you're the strongest guy in the world DDR still takes comprehension capabilities, physical stamina, foot speed, balance, coordination. That is, assuming you can put them all together and work up the courage to play in front of a crowd on the hardest song in the game when you're already dead tired.
And if you do play, don't worry, as long as you don't play any hyper eurobeat happy songs people might still see you as cool. _________________

Ummmm...the point of DDR is to hit the aarow comming up the screen in sync with the aarows on the top of the screen by using your feet to hit the aarows on the bottom of teh pad. _________________

Well when I first started to play it was just to lose weight, and then when I went to the arcade I met a group of people that played.
They have now become good friends of mine and some of them even best friends.
Just a game that people come together to have fun and share a common interest. _________________

Wow. >>; Well, at first, it was to have fun, and it still is really. I dunno what it is about DDR that's so attractive. x.x;
I met a bunch of new friends through it, and .. even, dare I say it .. the person I intend to stalk for the rest of my li -- I mean .. my boyfriend. Yes. >>;; Disregard any other statement. XP;
And yes, it's a bit of friendly competition, too, and well .. now I've made myself think I'm gonna get better than my boyfriend. I'll do it, too!
I dunno, maybe I'm just trying to get as good as Zane. x.x; As if that would ever happen; he's got Legend of Max on heavy already. But .. maybe. ^^ Maybe, I'll be on that level one day.
Just to be able to say, when I'm old and decrepid, that I've done that. XD

Hmm, probably the same thing that makes Simon, Minesweeper, and Solitaire. Magic! Yep, DDR has magic. The arrows are the four elements, weaved together through music, which itself is magic.
Ahem.
Well, when I first started playing, I was already a fan of Beatmania, so DDR was just a bit of an extension of Bemani play. But, I quickly began to like DDR a lot more, probably because it involves my whole body, and that endorphin rush just feels so good. Not to mention I've lost 40 pounds playing DDR and have much better rhythm, balance and self-control. |

There's not point in DDR by itself... it's just a game right? like how some people sit in front of the TV for hrs on end trying to finish FFXX in less than xx hours... why? it's only a game. not like tthe world's gonna end... but anyway...I play it just to keep in shape and it's healthy for you no? lol well the songs catch my interest... and it's pretty cool to develope better reflexes oh yea... and I meet people that play the same game as I do so it's another way of making new friends and meeting new people... I don't play a game just to make myself feel accepted... that's just pointless really... I play because I enjoy playing it _________________

What is the point of any hobby? To have fun and fill your spare time.
It cracks me up that some hobbies are "accepted," like playing golf, but others, like DDR, are looked down on. Really, how is dancing around to arrows more stupid than hitting a white ball around? The only difference is that more people do the latter thing. I hate people who think you are "weird" because you have a different hobby. They are just uncreative morons who enjoy bar-hopping and watching football all day like everyone else in the world. |

Hmm, well for the fat kid, how much do u weigh now?
You know, u could run as well, that helps...or walk fast....
I still think DDR is a waste of time, as is this website, and all this other stuff. How long are you gonna play DDR? Maybe a few months...years if you really have no life....
Unlike sports...like golf, u can play for your life....or other sports...most are geared toward a team...team building...a life skill....
DDR, yes it's a hobbie for some, but it looks like an addiction for the majority here.

nerdalert_, get off our fucking board. You don't like DDR, stay away from it, as well as references to it. And if you don't like DDR Freak, get outta here, like I just said. Not everyone who plays DDR doesn't have a life. A friend of mine's likes DDR, and he has a girlfriend, which he got through means not related to DDR.
I plat DDR because of the music.

And how is it your board?
I just like to engage others in conversation. If you don't like it, maybe you should just shut up.

You are free to state your opinion here, of course. That is your rights, but I'll just have to ask: why bother posting here anyway? If you are already firm on your opinion on this game, why even ask why others liked it? _________________
