Which was your favorite experiment in a home or arcade version of Dance Dance Revolution? (In this context, an "experimental gimmick" is one which was pretty much exclusive to that version or interface of the game, and was not or probably will not be repeated.)
* 2 extra diagonal arrows (Solo, US Konamix)
* Nonstop courses edited to mix together (Solo)
* Songlists tied directly to dancer characters (4th Mix, US Konamix)
* Long versions of songs, counting as 2 songs (5th Mix)
* Music videos (US MAX2)
If I've left any out, let me know... _________________

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that. It would be nice too if they would only count as one song though. Maybe on a home version. That would be even better. _________________

How could you possibly forget about the creation of 10 foot songs?
they were made without care if anyone enjoyed how the song sounded, just that they failed, that's all they really cared about....
(i give em a couple of years till they reach 15 ft. songs) |

I dunno, 10 footers as a whole don't sound so bad. Bag is good listenin'.
Solo 6-panel style was one of my favorites, though. I keep toying with the idea that the next DDR Mix should feature an eight panel mode for maximum difficulty. That could be pretty neat (and probably way too hard). _________________

Itd be fun, but do you realy want 8 arrows in a row that you have to look for?
6 arrows was hard...cuz it had to be added to the top...but 8?

If long version songs were brought back, and counted as 2 songs I would still pick them in a future DDR arcade mix. |

We already HAVE an eight-panel mode. It's called Double... (Seriously, Ikonomi, I know exactly what you mean. I have heard of arcade DDR knock-offs, and I use that term without negative connotations, which use all NINE panels... hear they are quite a bit too difficult.)
I'm not sure I can consider 10-foot ratings an "experimental gimmick," as we still have those; ditto with Oni mode. 2MB's stuff is cool, and that's still going strong... And I'll actually have to see whether US EXTREME uses music videos again; if so, that's no longer considered as an "experimental gimmick." I think the closest the arcade's come to using "music videos" is true...'s mixes, and Extreme took those out to save space. Boo. _________________

I think they should combine the long songs with Oni Mode. Like, take some six minute or longer song, and have that one song be the Oni Course itself, or maybe two long songs.
I'd love to see a Charlie Daniels Fiddling Oni. Though, I'm sure the steps (if actually done right) could be very tiring. |

Long versions should definitely be brought back. A Charlies Daniels song sounds good, namely, The Devil Went Down To Georgia, and it would be fun on DDR, but as an Oni course? Oof. _________________

How about lyrics to the songs? (Was 3rd Mix the only mix to include this feature, or was it implemented in earlier mixes as well?) If you can deal with music videos playing in the background, most likely you can deal with lyrics being displayed (although I don't know about having both at once). I'd like to see this back, if only to clear up some of the vocals that are lost in the mix/behind the announcer's prattling or strangely accented. _________________

Yup, 3rd Mix was the only one with this feature.
At first I thought this thread was going to be about gimmicks that people do to fool others like for example Beginner Stealth or memorizing the character specific shuffles on 3rd Mix and doing an easy song shuffle stealth. _________________
