Warning points displayed??

I clicked on my profile for the first time in months and I see that now I can view how many warning points I have. So I click on another user and I can see how many points cfusionpm has.

I don't like this implementation. I can see that some mods are getting tired of telling people how many warning points they had, but to make the warning points of another user available to a non-authority figure I find to be quite reckless because this feature can be abused. If I see someone with 6-8 points, what's to stop me poking at that user until he flames me, just so I can see him banned? After all, I've got 0, and what's 2 points for flamebaiting?

And one more thing: What the fuck is this?

Others' knowledge of your warning points shouldn't change your attitude on the boards. If you got up to 6 or 7 warning points, that means you've committed at least two offences. That someone egged you into a third is no less your fault than theirs.

As for the profiles you linked...what specifically is your problem? That Skip got banned, or that Sl1p got magically unbanned?

JDogg will have to give a better full explanation, but the ban system has changed since Sl1p got banned. That was a year and a half ago.

Since the time sl1p was banned a year and a half ago, the warning system was changed to implement the 1 point per month reduction for good behavior. Had that new system been around during sl1p's time, he would have been let off for good behavior. However, because he was banned before that system was put into place, he and everyone else who was banned during that time remains banned.

As a side note, if it is evident that you are "egging someone on" then you are flamebaiting them. You get warned. If you continue to do it over a period of time (and after being told to stop), I wouldn't mind making sure you don't get 1 point reductions for those warns. Pulling something and then waiting a month only to pull it again is the same to me as doing it in the same day.

Whatever happened to the DDRFreak policy of not glorifying the banned by letting everyone know who they are? I rather liked that.

We are not actively telling everyone who the banned people are. We are passively letting people know if they are banned by displaying it on their profile. This is not the same as glorifying the banned, as glorifying is more active, this passive system can be called notification, not glorification.

maybe he had 8 points and got a 3 point warn

also the ban system isnt instant ( ithink it takes 15 minutes for a point sheck) so you could easily get more than nine points begfore your not banned
