Hey there, I just started building my metal pad and i was wondering If I could use something else instead of Lexen, couldn't I just use some strong plywood instead (the only reason I want to do this is because I have some plywood that could be used)? im not realy worried about arrow designs. _________________

Ok i finished my metal pad today and it was awsome the half of peace out that i played. During the middle of the song left and down just stopped working. Up and right work fine. They just need a little adjusting and they will be fine but left and down just do not work. Is it possible that the just those 2 buttons on the controller fried? I am planning on trying to re solder later tonight if i get the chance. But from looking at my solder it looks the same as up and right and those work fine. |

Sorry for asking so many questions but I've got a few more:
1. What do I put between the wood pieces for noise reduction in the Riptide style pad? TP? A t-shirt? The quilted quicker picker upper Bounty?
2. Between what wood peices do I put this item(s)?
Thanx in advance (to anyone who answers). |

If I put a picture of the controller I bought onto here, could someone tell me where the soldering points are?
I think I have an idea, but I'm not too sure. Either way I'll get the camera tomorrow and put a pic of it up then. Its a Pelican PS1 (no sticks) controller.
Also...why is it so hard to strip those wires? Is there some sort of technique that I'm missing? I always keep cutting the whole thing on accident...guess I dont have that kind of finesee. |

I haven't followed this thread in months, but now I have a problem with my homepad. It's been working fine for over a year without any problems, except once a wire came loose, and it was a five minute fix. Now my left arrow is completely out(after being on and off for awhile, a problem which was finished by a restart of the game). I've checked EVERYTHING I could think of. I checked the connection to both plates, for any breaks in the wires, the soldering in the controller, the connections in the brackets. EVERYTHING. If anyone has any suggestions I'll keep the pad apart for a few more hours, but I really need help.. |

can anyone tell me which contacts work the best? Right now i am leaning mostly towards DDRhomepads mod because it seeme that would be most sensitive since the whole arrow is a button not just the few contacts around the edges. If any other contacts work better please tell me. _________________

I have a few questions about lighting the pad:
1) where do you get your solid state relays? (a url or 2 if its online would be nice)
2) what powers your lightbulbs? (whats your power source?)
3) what type of light bulbs do you use?
4) instead of using a separate circuit for the light sensors, couldn't you just use the already existing arrow sensors? it's either 5, 7, or 9 volts
you just wire it into the low voltage side of the relay and it uses the ps2 for power. |

1: I got mine from www.Opto22.com
2: Electrical cord that plugs into the wall.
3: I used 40W Reveal bulbs for best color. 60W makes too much heat. Go with the lowest watt bulb that looks bright enough (25W is good), but don't go over 40W.
4: I don't know... it sounds like a reasonable thing. If you know exactly what you're doing, and know that there won't be and circuits shorting out, or any electrical hazards, you can probably do it. I'm glad I didn't though, there was a point in which my light and control wires crossed. Luckily it didn't do any damage. |

Hey, I was looking around for sheet metal today so I could start building my pad (finally..) and I came across this: Home Depot - Sheet Metal. It looked like what I needed, but it seemed a bit cheap. Is there anything I'm missing about it, or is it quite fine and just has a low price? Thanks. _________________

I think thats the 30 guage sheet metal that they usually have in stock, don't get that kind. If you look in the store they should have a section devoted to sheet metal.
The 26 guage sheet metal I got was somewhere around 21 bucks. Its been working well, I say get that if you can. |

Lol, I also ran into almost the exact same problem....
Right arrow worked on an off..took apart, loose wire, resoldered....Worked for a few songs, on and off.....Then stopped completly.....I resoldered the right arrow wire to the right button...changed settings...worked for about 2 seconds....Everybutton going crazy....i.e....Controller fried....
Going to pick up another and resolder it tommarow, Sounds like yer in the same boat..Soldering another controller although a pain, takes under 30 minutes..

Well not from the ps1. But im thinking it might be possable to get the power from the USB of the ps2! Has anyone else thought of this? _________________

did you use glue adhesive to keep the foam triangles in place or did you just put the lucite on top of them without any type of holding? |

The PS1 DOES supply power to the controllers - otherwise those LED lights that say "Analog" or whatever over them wouldn't work. Someone should look into using the USB ports on a PS2 however... much more amperage I'm sure. |

I don't think he was implying that the PSOne doesn't supply power, but rather that the PSOne doesn't supply ample power for a decent lighting system. _________________

yeah, it does, but you always have the problem that those little LEDs on the playstation controller are very low watt diodes, and the things you are probably looking at for lighting are either high watt diodes or actual lamps, either way, just a wee on the "will fry a 750mA fuse" side (though i haven't been able to find the fuse in my PS)
edit: somehow, i missed the above comment, and replied anyways.
Side question, does anyone here know how the 'ground' on the playstation is worked out? i have a two way switch that im thinking of using (normally open, normally closed) and i dont want to fry a playstation whilest trying to gound out some stuff, im thinking im going to have to use a two port switch (two actual switches built into one) with a NO and a NC otherwise, though if the playstation ground is a good ground, i can get around that entirely (also depending on my parallel port for my computer, but moreso the playstation) |
