Actually, it can depend what way you look at it.
If it costs $1.00 to play, you get 3 songs and a line to wait in, then home is the winner. No lines, no show-offs, no waiting for sucky people to get off.
If you prefer showing off, Arcade is the clear winner.
Besides, people get to play songs earlier when the machine is in the arcade, than waiting for the home US edition comes out, somethimes, it never comes out.
Personally, I pick Arcade, the METAL PAD rules.
As for the version, EXTREME is my favorite, followed by MAX2, no doubt.
Another arguement for Home vs. Arcade:
The Arcade has all these:
Dancing Stage
Dancing Stage EuroMIX
Dancing Stage EuroMIX 2
Dancing Stage feat. Disney's Rave
Dancing Stage feat. Dreams Come True
Dancing Stage feat. True Kiss Destination

Over here in the UK, we only have Euromix and Euromix 2 as official arcade releases, but we have Euromix, Dancing Stage: Party Edition, DS: Disney Mix, and DS: Megamix. So we have more home versions that arcade versions!
Sure, we have the occasional import, but playing one normally involved a lot of travelling.
On the actual playing side of things, i find that if i can pass a song at home on a soft mat, i can pass it on the arcade. I mean, recently ive been failing Drop Out heavy at home, but passed it with ease on the arcade.
For me, Arcade = teh win! |

Arcade. in addition to all the different mixes, there's the showing off, and you get to interact with people who play and get tips. not to mention the women... |

Yeah, I'd say Arcade is way better, otherwise I wouldn't spend so much money every week to go and play, even though I have all the US home mixes and the pads, ect. Yeah, metal pads rock, its so much fun to hang out with and meet fellow DDRs, and...the guys! _________________

WHAT KIND OF THREAD IS THIS
of course arcade is much better by far u get to show off, have crowds cheering for u, metal pads which feel better and are easier (if u say ur better on soft pads ur a noob), and the arcade mixes have better songs
the only advantage isee to home is that u can practice harder songs without having to waist money. (and u can practice fs without looking like a retart) |

I agree that the arcade atmosphere is nice, however about 80% of the time I go there is no one to show off for anyway. I would like to address comments made about the home playing. Someone said, if you say you are better on a soft pad you are a noob. This seems like it is coming from a noob perspective. There are metal pads for home. Playing on a CF platform is better response than the arcade about 90% of the time. Also it was said that there are only like 5 mixes for home. Maybe if you strictly buy US copies but the trend still is not that big here. You have to import if you want the best home experience. I'm not dissing the arcade... I actually think it is a better atmosphere but there is more to home play than DDRMAX US and $15 soft pads. Just my 2 cents. _________________

I have two mymybox metal pads and I can also play stepmania on PC. I find the arcade nice when doing doubles and also for the flashy lights and atmosphere....i love playing at home as well, my pads work perfectly and I can play pretty much any song I want with stepmania.
so basicaly i love arcade and home equally (i do beter at home cuz the pad is more sensitive) |

To me I play more at home to practice but I still go to the arcade.
I have a CF at home also so it's a ****ing wicked pad.
As for crowd, my max crowd has been like 4 people:P.
MY arcade is dead and nobody ever goes really.
I can do 8 feet and some 9's so it's not like I suck and a newb wouldn't be impressed.
I always have the machine all to myself:) |

home pad DEFINATLEY, the pads on the arcade are too small and you have to really step on them or they dont work, especially on a freeze step (unless its just the UK dance machines) |

I'd rather play at the arcade because I never get to anymore. But playing at home is much better for 'training'. |

It really depends on how good the pads at the arcade are. some of them suck so they are hard to use. but the ones where i go are awesome. so i prefer playing at the arcade, unless i had a metal pad at my house, then i would rule at ddr, play it day and night, nonstop!!! bwahahaha!!! no jk. arcade all the way!! |

I'd have to say home, but not in the tradition sense. I happen to have DDR parties which ends up being great fun. It let's you freestyle and I actually have better accuracy at home (Dual CF's) and you don't get the jerk factor added in |

I totally agree with you. People. Use the home versions of DDR for practicing cuz it does make perfection. Also, save up your money and become an importer like ME! |
