Well Action Replay has a blue bottom and 8 has a DVD (Silver) bottom. But the disc drive is getting fixed for free so I'm sending it out to SOny anyway. Thanks for the help with the confusion though. |

I have a question about the Flip-top/Swap Magic discs.
Can this method be used to play DVD-rip PS2 games (PS2 games that were originally on DVD, but private groups ripped them, cut down the size, and put them on CD) such as IIDX 5th Style? _________________

I am beginning to breakdown, and just purchase a Jap PS2, but before I do, what is the word about the flip top cover? It sounds pretty easy to use, and if anyone knows if it works with import ps1 games, then it looks like I just saved about 250$!
Also, which one would I want to get, this one:
Slide Card with Swap Magic v2.0 COMBO Only $29.99
This one:
Flip - Top with Swap Magic v2.0 COMBO Only $42.99
or Both? |

The flip top *DOES* let you play import PS1 games. I have it and it works like a charm You would buy the latter package -- the FlipTop with the Swap Magic disc, but you will need a PSX Gameshark Lite in order to play Playstation One games. The Swap Magic disk is only compatible with PS2 games as far as I know. |

Hmm, I own a regular gameshark for PS2. How is the "lite" one any different? |

Ok, I am only trying to get something to play imports because of Extreme this October. Max/Max2 have nothing special on them, besides what is going to be released on Max2USA.
I also planned on getting 4th/5th mix too. Now, if there was a 100% chance that Extreme would work on the flip top, then I would just buy a import PSone, and save about 150$.
Is there any reason to suspect that Extreme would not work with the flip top?
Added: I do not know what version my PS is, so I do not know for what version to buy the cover for.
What do I go by to determine the version? The serial number on the back (starts with U4), or the info from the boot screen?:
Console: SCPH-30001
Browser: 1.20
CD Player: 1.20
Playstation Driver: 1.10
DVD Player: 1.30U |

Gameshark lite is for ps1, and I'm pretty sure you need a ps1 gameshark in order to play ps1 imports. Yes the swap magic is only compatible with ps2 games, this is because it boots as a ps2 game and if you put in a ps1 game after booting then the playstation will get "confused" or something. I own a flip-top and to me it seems very safe. After hearing about the slide card thing I would definately recommend a flip-top, because the slide card sounds like it would just break the ps2. I don't know for sure that it would as I know there are many people that use them, but it sounds like too big a risk to me. |
You can also use the GS2 by using the PSX codes disc that comes with it. _________________

I guess 2 simple sentances, and the letter A, are not persuasive enough to make a 50$ purchase. |

I just need a bit more info then what you provided about the fliptop, before I drop the cash.
Ok, one more question(s) to anyone that uses the filptop, or knows these:
Can you play these games with it:
5th Mix Import (I heard that you need to use a special method to play PS1 imports)
6th Mix Max Import (I doubt this isn't a problem)
7th Mix Max2 Import (Same as above)
Extreme (I know that this is speculative, but with a huge song library, and the rumor that the fliptop swap disk will not work with larger dvds, and games with dummy table of contents, would you think its safe to assume that it would work?)
Those are my last ones...I promise |

I have 5th mix and it works on my Fliptop perfectly! No synch/menu/modchip issues and whatnot. But you have to make sure you're using a Gameshark as your boot disc, not the Magic one. |

I dont understand. What is with pressing down on the disk?
You have to manually press down on the disk center everytime you use the flip-top?
How does that work?
