One method of improving PA that I've found is to use DWI or Stepmania and set your timings to one score harder. For example, with the adjusted timings if you step with arcade good accuracy, you get a boo, if you step with arcade great accuracy you only get goods. if you leave it on this setting and dance as usual, you'll find your timing vastly improved in no time |

Is it at all possible to do it without the bar rape? I'm not talking Max300 on Heavy, bear in mind. I'm relatively new to the game, so I haven't even attempted it on Heavy, but I can get by on Standard with a B. The problem is, though, during those short 8th note bursts, although I can process the arrows, I can't move fast enough to hit them.
This is all on DDRMax at home, so I don't have a bar to rape, and to an extent I'm rather glad I don't, as PA isn't so important to me as much as being able to get through songs first. _________________

How about not lifting your legs high? ever tried that? you lose alot of energy just doing that. Try to pace yourself when you doing songs like that, runs on v (oni) and grad. cyber , try to lead forward and step flat footed. |

I think I need to gain efficiency in leg movement, but I don't think it's a matter of lifting my legs too high, nor is it going "flat-footed" as you say, as I'm on the balls of my toes most of the time.
I think the actual horizantal movement from one arrow to the other is what kills me. I've been trying to, to a certain extent, get slides down, but am failing miserably. _________________

Right now I am working on Drop Out - Heavy, and I can get through most of the song, its just those continuous sets of doubles that are really starting to get irritating. Any suggestions? _________________

Then i guess i must be a pretty crappy ddr player if i bar rape huh? i remember last summer everyone use to hate bar raping but not its different, cause everyone hates speed mods. Trust me bar raping doesn't make you look bad, if i could get 9 greats on max300 with the bar or 29 greats on unlimited with the bar then , im going to use to bar. thats your opinion,if you think the bar makes u less of a ddr player or makes you look bad then...hey u have alot to learn. |

I always play wearing black baggy windpants, a plain white shirt, and a gray fleece pullover. i always wear the same thing in the spring, summer, winter, fall, it doesn't matter. also, i wear 5 lb. weights on each ankle and wear heavy shoes. after an hour of playing weighted, i play like the wind. |

How are you moving your feet? (or rather, how high do you raise them) Do you play on the balls of your feet or your heels? How high do you jump when the time comes for it? What do you eat/drink before you play DDR? (Talking about 30 minutes before, not just before the first song )
If it helps before you even answer my question, drink about half a bottle of water to hydrate your body, and eat a banana to provide potassium for your body so cramps become less of a threat of coming up. Do both about 30-45 minutes before you play DDR. And don't forget to warm up before you go on stage, so your muscles aren't all stiff, making it easier to move. |

this might have been said before, but it doesnt hurt to say it again cause of how important it actually is...
dont be afraid to turn your body from the screen.
let me explain
for a while now, ive been stuck on level 7s and 8s, like for a few months ive been stuck.
but i was once watching someone play level 9s and i noticed how they turned theyre body, i started doing this, and now my ability shot up and i can pass many 9 footers now!
what i mean is,
before i turned, if there were 3 8th note steps such as left, down, right, i would hit them in the order of, left foot, right foot, then quickly pull up and hit with right foot again, now that i turn my body, i hit them with left foot, right foot, rotate my body to the right, and hit with my right foot, and just by doing that, just by willing to move my body from the screen, shot my ability up a lot! _________________

I think it's very important to always push yourself to the next harder song. I learned that last month when I just kept playing the same songs. I noticed that I stopped improving, but as soon as I began to push myself to the next level I noticed alot of improvement. |

proceed with caution. very long.
first, see if u can find the step chart for the song u want to triple here at ddr freak. then, look it over and study it carefully. keep in mind however, some song's aren't perfectly translated into a step chart (max 300 for example denotes the 4 steps before the first freeze as quarters when step editors in console games and simulators denote these as 1/12 notes). but anyway, its just to get any idea of how much shuffle, cross and spin a song has. just ignore that part if u want to sight read ur way into a triple a, though i don't reccomend it! a better way may be to look it over in training mode in a home version, or in edit/sync record on stepmania. once you've got a good knowledge of the steps (u dont have ta memorize, just get a good idea) play it at an extremely low speed. then u can get into rhythm and know which arrows to hit with your left foot and which to hit with your right (this is important, especially in a song like exotic ethnic. at one stream, if u start on your left, you'll end up having to shuffle back into rhythm whereas if u start on your right, you can cross/hip twist right into the stream. or option two, you can go into that stream and alternate feet anyway forcing you to turn ur back to the screen if u can do that, you have surpassed me because i still have to look 75 percent of the time ). j/k. after that, play at an extremely fast speed, but don't expect to get very far (or u can if ur really good, but x5 is just crazy). just do it to fool your eyes, which in turn will fool your brain. do that a couple times. then play at a lower speed, but still faster than your normal. then skip down to your normal playing speed (x1, x1.5, x2) and let your legs do the rest. i find it a great technique for getting beginners into harder difficulties. now if ur problem isn't reading, then its probably timing. which is easily solved by playing the song itself at a higher rate and working on PA. unfortunately, i dont know which home versions (if any) let u play the song itself at a higher rate. i do know that stepmania offers to play songs at a higer rate and i suggest u take full advantage of that!
----
if all else fails, make your own steps to whatever song, and just make it down down down down, until u reach the end of the song
or if you're really lazy, down
boom, triple a. |
