Its good not unexpected news for purists. This is very old hardware: DDR will not be emulated tomorrow. |

i dont know if you want to blow 400$$ trying you can get a upgrade kit from channelbeat.com but i realy doubt IIDX runs on windows, i think it has its own hardware and FRIMWARE OS. like most arcade games. _________________

It actually does run off of windows XP.
That means it wouldn't be "emulated" but it is actually just running. _________________

I find it ironic that Beatmania: 7th and Beatmania: The Final will now be able to be played at home, before Konami ever got around to bother to release them (if they even ever plan to anymore).
Granted, it's not a legal way of doing it, but it's just unfortunate that the demand is there to have home versions of these games and nothing has been done about until now with MAME. _________________

Personally I need some proof. Just because the CHD files have been dumped doesn't mean emulation is complete or even available. Provide a link or some screenshots (emulated screenshots).
I've been a big follower of the emulation scene for several years, and I know that CPS2 roms were available for almost 2 years before the hardware was ever PLAYABLE. CPS3 still isn't.
Last I checked, no Bemani hardware was even in the process of being emulated (due to protection, I've heard). _________________

it works, use google. This is not personal but I have seen it work firsthand, a few games. Older beatmania hardware is based on emulated systems.
People are advancing on othey bemani systems but maybe there will not be an emulator this year. Pure guess - bootlegs will allow emulation to progress.

Wow, I'm impressed. Apparently the Bemani DJ hardware (the most primitive Bemani hardware) has been emulated. It might be a while before DDR or IIDX get emulated though, since the CHD files will be enormous... IIDX especially, since the videos are so huge.
http://www.system16.com/konami/hrdw_bemanidj.html
Since currently only the simplest Bemani hardware has been emulated, it may be a good while before DDR is actually playable in the home via emulators rather than SIMULATORS. As I mentioned with CPS2/CPS3, the hardwares are only 3 years apart, and very similar in components, but as of yet CPS3 is still unemulated (big whoop, a hardware from 1996 with 6 games on it, Warzard, Jojo's Adventure 1 and 2 and SFIII: 1-3), so don't go getting your hopes up yet... though I am intrigued by the concept of playing Beatmania 7th and Final...
System16 is a great resource for information, and now that they've cleaned up their Bemani sections (divided up all the different hardwares), it's much easier to track the progress of emulation (so to speak).
EDIT: To Thagyamin, I assure you... during peaks in emulation progress, posts about "Honor among thieves" come up daily. If every emulator author and rom dumper was inhibited by the legality of dumping roms (even legitamite ones) and emulating them, there would be no progress at all. Unfortunately, that's the way the cookie crumbles. _________________

I'm quite impressed, I'm looking at Beatmania 6th mix on another computer right now. Much to my suprise, its running full speed with sound (I should note-- running on a machine that's 2 gigahertz) . The roms are HUGE and it takes a little effort to get it all set up right now... and the display isn't perfect (the edges are chopped off a bit, but I actually think it varies depending on your card I think it could be tweaked to look fine) but wow, I'm very suprised how far the emulation has come here.... _________________

if I understood my friend correctly, it's obviously emulating the arcade hardware so you need the arcade rom, which is on a cd, which is why they're so fucking big _________________

The PC Skie was refering to as running Beatmania 6th was mine.
The chd's are hard to find. You might try checking <link removed~ CStar> to see if they have the roms and CHD's (not that I'm advocating DLing them). You need a WIP of MAME called DJMAIN (found here: http://emu.joyie.com/host/mameplus/tmp/source_beta/djmain-test.zip).
Run DJMAIN with the appropriate ROM and CHD and away you go.
It emulates great. Only problem I've seen is a bit of latency with the keys. I'm not sure if that's my keyboard or MAME. It's still a WIP so they could fix it. Right now the only CHD's I've found were Beatmania 6th, Core Remix, and Complete Mix 2. _________________

Actually... to clarify, the CHD file, which is so gigantic is actually an "image" of the onboard harddrive. But that doesn't really make much of a difference.
And before everyone goes crazy about the possibility of IIDX 9th Style (which is the ONLY style to run on XP, the others use a different setup), you can't simply "run" it using conventional means. (I.E. Running XP then loading IIDX 9th Style). With emulation, that means EMULATING a system in its entirety. Which means that you have to emulate a hardware RUNNING windows XP RUNNING IIDX 9th Style... meaning even MORE CPU intensive... it's a pain in the arse, but that's also the problem with X-Box emulation, since it's a modified XP...
Uh... was that a bit too much detail? _________________

Actually, for IIDX 9th Style, you'd just need to make some drivers and such for Win XP that emulate the auxiliary hardware in the arcade machine, and redirect some I/O. The arcade game runs on an x86 CPU, right? So you probably wouldn't need to emulate that. And you'd need a video card that could support 1080i HDTV output.
Of course, there's also the issue of copy protection. I'm not sure what kind of weird stuff Konami has thrown in.

I'm letting discussion of the emulation continue, but if there's anything else like this, thread goes bye-bye. |
