(Pop'n) Controller Making (warning, some large pictures)

I found the UFO lights in the aisle with the light switchplates, i think there were smaller sized light bulbs in the aisle too. I was walking around looking for small tap lights and ran across the UFO lights. Didn't really hear about them anywhere. I haven't heard back from the guy that took my info at Wal-mart so I'm not sure what is going on. I will be checking on it this week. I haven't gotten around to snapping a picture of the finished project but will have one soon, just be patient. Ran out of film in Atlantic City, Monday so I need to use another roll up. Will take a picture of the cardboard I used too. And I will change it to Neko.

Is there any chance that someone with an ASC (SuPa?) can post the actual measurements? If I'm going to actually build this thing I want to be sure it's done right. I tried ordering the large buttons from happs a long time ago, but their online ordering wouldn't take my order for some reason. So I put an order in for the jumbo buttons from Betson last week, and I'll let you know how they turn out.

Well this is my first post here and i would like to say that i have completed a popn music controller and i am well on my way to a second one and i will try to make a website for the constuction of the pad but as time goes on i will have more in fo on the progress of the pad so far i have found the buttons which are the GE mini Touch Lights they were 3.12 at Lowes SO far every thing is working out fine with it but i will have some more info later

Hey guys. I will have pictures soon. I took them in to get developed yesterday. So sometime next week you will have a finished picture as well as a picture of the inside and of the cardboard I used. I can't use my digi cam for those pictures b/c I would have to bring the controller to my mothers which would not be a good idea. Too much static electricity around b/c of a few cats and I have yet to enclose the controller part I soldered to.

Another thing. My design isn't perfect. In fact, I broke a tap light already. The outer rim of the top domes part was snapped off the from my excessive hitting. They certainly arent made for this kind of abuse. I have yet to play anything in hyper mode and pass. *not that good yet* I can pass most 4 star songs on normal. So I'm not sure how long/well this will hold up in hyper mode. It still is a decent controller though. I managed to full combo "Yamato" *sorry, I don't know if that is the actual name of the song*. I am thinking of alternate ways to do things but until I actually follow through on something the web site will stay the way it is.

Well right now i have like 8 of those lights and i am currently devising a way to to reinforce the plastic dome light with either a liquid polyeurthaine coating with a full metal alumium base for each light this should work with the GE version of the Light well i will show a pic of the design spec when i get a chance and btw Have you cracked the dome of the light yet i was just wondering.

At lowes there is this liquid metal for wood and i know that this stuff will stick to and plastic so i think i would work for mplastic as well i will tell you later about it

Alright, my controller is finally done, and I'm pretty happy with it. The dimensions may not be exact, since no one came forward with the measurements, but it still plays really well. I definitely recommend the Betson buttons for anyone wanting to get the job done right while saving a couple hundred dollars. It took awhile to get the full order from them, and I ended up having the buttons sent in two packages because of shortages of particular colors I assume. But it was definitely worth the wait...

I've got my buttons coming in the mail (To do this quick, dirty, and cheaply, I'm using the next size smaller from Happ, and building the actual "box" for the controler to arcade size so I can get the dome buttons at a later date), and everything else ready. I've only got one question though: How do I make the controller think it has left, right, and down held down all the time? Would just soldering a small piece of metal onto it work? Or gluing the little rubber D-pad piece? I'm just curious.

I'll post pics and stuff when it's done (hopefully this weekend).

Oh, and for anyone interested:

The dimensions of the arcadestyle controller are 28" long, 12" wide, and 4" deep. I can't find anything on button spacing, but I'm going to use 6" between the center of the buttons, left to right, and 6" up and down. I did a scale drawing, and it turned out looking very similar.

hrm hardcore your conroller looks like there is way too much space between the top and the bottom rows.

My only complaint was that no one that actually had an ASC posted the dimensions for people trying to build a controller. I of course saw your post pages ago, but nothing you said seemed to indicate that you had better information about the spacing than the rest of us (pictures of the ASC on the internet). Personally I still don't see how you spacing could be right, but whatever, as long as we're all happy with our controllers, right?

Yeah, I'll definitely fix mine, but I think I'll hold out for the day that someone comes forward with the exact specs...

Hey guys. Sorry for not posting anything sooner but I been busy. Moving, school, work, etc. Here is a photo of my finished project. I will post the rest of my pictures on the web page sometime soon. Also have a few pictures of some of the grades I got while playing on it as well. Keep in mind it is not very pretty but it works well. And for the price i paid to make it I don't mind having to fix it every once in a while.
