Do you play 10 footers using the bar?

Is it humanly possible to play without it?

Just a question because the other day I was playing Sakura, and I started using the bar near the end, and it helped me pass the song....ughh....I think I confused my self.

Yup. I can A Max 300 without the bar. Haven't had as much practise without the bar on any other 10-footers, as i have to go to London to play them.

I passed Maxx Unlimited on Stepmania with an Ignition pad and no bar, does that count?

Yeah it is. I've AA'ed Sakura and Bag without using the bar and I can get an A on Max300 without using the bar, both normal stage and ex stage(I've AA'ed it with the bar though E15.gif ). A on PS w/o the bar. I think I got a B on Maxx U. w/o the bar, but its been a long time since I tried it w/o bar.

on doubles I've passed Max300, Maxx U., PS, Bag, Genom Screams without the bar.

oh and mintsauce: I hope that max300 wasn't on a euromix 2, because those have very very lenient grading systems. Like that one guy who got a AA on max300 on an EM2 machine, but on any other ddrmachine it would have barely been good enough for a very low A. laugh.gif

Yes it's easy to pass 10 ft. songs without the bar...I do it all the time. only people who use the bar as i've noticed don't have good stamina and get tired fast.

also you may get more responses in the gameplay forum.

I can do PARANOiA Survivor, Max300, Sakura, Bag, and 4/5th of Maxx Unlimited(I get tired easily, so sue me) without the bar. So yes, it's possible.

I usually never use the bar, because it wears me out even more. Last year, when I tried doing Max300 with the bar, I couldn't even get to the first freeze. I tried without, and I beat it.

Thats the best part about learning to play at home. I can pass every 10 footer except LoM and PSM/Oni without using the bar. Just learn how to step lightly at the arcade.

Exactly, I tend to think people who started out at home are generally better off. At least in this regard. I not only don't use the bar, I've never even considered it.

Even if using the bar somehow made it so I could miraculously pass a couple more 10 footers, I wouldn't do it. I don't really consider it a pass when the bar is used.

I started off at home and I almost never used the bar....

Slowly, I grew dependant on it. I can pass half of the 10 footers on a good day with the use of a bar. However, even for 7 footers, I find myself holding the bar from time to time.

However, I played every day. Then when my job ended, I stopped playing for half a week. When I came back, I didn't use the bar hardly at all. It was weird, because even for harder songs, I just didn't use it.

I'll see how long it lasts though =-) I still need to find time to play DDR here down at college (I moved in yesterday).

Like Tac-tics said, I started off at home. So in the end, I pretty much practiced without the bar in the first place.

I can AA Bag, Sakura, and am just a few perfects / few less misses away from AAing P. Survivor. I can A on Max 300, A-B on The Legend of Max, B on MaxX Unlimited, B on P. Survivor Max, and I'm close to passing PSM Oni as well ... within the final long run before the last slow down.

So it's entirely possible. You learn how to play without the bar by doing different things. Hunching down, standing up more straight, making fewer energy-consuming movements or just not moving your feet/legs as much (baby stepping like on LoM to conserve energy in the beginning for the second half).

I must admit i do use the bar more often than not (i really hate it though, but its the only way i can pass 9ft+, my stam sucks and my foot speed is slow without it, also i helps keep me balanced) but i ahve seen people (in videos) complete maxx unlimited and 300 without the bar, i guess it just takes alota practice, something i dont like to do riiight.gif

I can only do nines but for me, it depends on the song. like i can pass ORION.78 ameuromix without the bar, and twilight zone with out the bar but i need the bar at certain points in sweet sweet love magic and matsuri japan.

Sometimes I use the bar, sometimes I don't. For certain songs, it seems better for me to have the bar than not.

What I have learned, though, is that up-down or down-up 8ths/16ths are NOT easy with the bar. Well...unless it's Bag, maybe. But I do better without the bar on Sakura than with.

... are you serious?

I don't mean that rudely. It's just ... wow. I don't use the bar on Sweet <3 Magic and I average 15 greats. The same with Matsuri Japan. And honestly, I'd probably do seven times worse.

What is it? I mean, is it because of stamina/energy issues? Balance and coordination? I just have trouble seeing people do anything but 10's with the bar, and maybe a few other things (final run on Ska A Go Go, Across the Nightmare, Cartoon Heroes).
