Hey, I'm Hatter, I'm a recent DDR convert (beginning of this year..).
I have a home system with a semi-modded MadCatz pad, being that it's only been carpet taped onto a piece of plywood, and startlingly it is still alive. I was wondering if the mod using hardwood floor covering mat is worth it, or if i should simply go find a pad cover to duct tape over what i have already. This has only become a recent problem because what i have now can only-just handle 6-foot songs and nothing higher.
i'm sure that somewhere in this entire thread there's an answer, but i gave up after page 15.
and second question, when modded with a cover, can you wear shoes with a soft pad? |

IMHO, soft pad mods of any sort die after about 7 footers (if your lucky). The hardwood covering way does make it alot better then others, and you can use shoes on the hardwood covering ones. _________________

:-) I've had my modded Mad Catz Beat Pads for 6 months and no sign of dying yet. These things are very durable once you mount them on wood and cover the pads with 1-2 layers of packaging tape. I play 9-10+ footers on a regular basis and still no sign of breaking down. The pads by themselves are very responsive, and once modded, they don't bunch or slip AT ALL. I gutted two of my old redoctane pads and took out that rubbery non-slip sheet on the bottom. I just staple/duct-taped those sheets to each of my modded Beat Pads, they work great.
Also, if you dont have any dead RO pads lying around, you can get this special tape that is rough on the surface, like the things you find on the bottom of hotel showers. I haven't tried the tape, but I imagine it would be very good for a non-slip surface. _________________
