I like playing at home better because of a couple of factors:

My shoes weigh 6,000,000 lbs:
Okay, maybe not that much, but they are heavy and my stamina is cut in half when I wear them at an arcade.

It's hard to slide on an arcade pad!:
Well, it is. On a homepad I use my right foot alot but in the arcade I can't slide as much (because the arrows are lower than the platform)...

My softpads at home are 6 months old and still work perfectly...I have yet to replace them or get any kind of ghost arrow...they were $15 and STILL haven't broken down at all, which is amazing since I weigh 300 lbs and play songs like Drop Out, Afronova, and Max 300 on it all the time. E4.gif

I do better overall on a soft pad, but arcade pads are 100x better when it comes to freestyling and having fun bouncing around (Matsuri Japan) E4.gif

That would be your fault because it is way easier to get perfects on the home versions. You're not getting screwed over, your timing is just not precise enough for the arcade. :\

I did hear the perfect window is much larger on home versions...

What??? Home pads are flat, arcade pads are "dug out"; how can you not feel the arcade pad? E19.gif

I have two ddrhomepads i built and i like them better than arcade pads.
Also, I have friends over several times a week to play.

Playing at the arcade is better, but only for the atmosphere. If it's at an arcade where noone really watches you, then its much better playing at home.

I only play at home since the only machine in the area where I live is not slick at all so if you even think about freestyling, you'll lose.

Maybe they'll let me spray it with pledge.

I like the arcade more, just a personal thing for me, I've yet to find a home pad that I truly like without having to blow 2X or more the price of the game for... I always wind up where I started with the pad halfway across the room for no apparent reason... that and the fact that my cat seems to have a foot fetish or something, I'd be too afraid I'd stomp him instead of the arrows. Also I got used to the game by playing in combat boots, so just about any other footwear I have on while I'm playing makes it feel like I'm not wearing shoes at all. E1.gif

definately the arcade

at home, my dance pad's arrows are a different length apart than the actual arcade version.... frown.gif so it's harder and my pad keeps slipping. my sister and i are saving up to get metal pads instead of the soft ones.

at the arcade, it's funner because people can actually see you showing off what you can do! plus it's also fun to just watch other people showing off. E4.gif but that's just me.

Nothing Beats the Arcade. That's the Original. Thats my preference. The arrows are so much closer together. The home pads, unless you buy a mad expensive red octane pad, are all spaced apart way further than I'm use to. This is why Im investing in a Metal Pad for home.

I have two RO Ignition 2.0 pads at home, but I have to go with the Arcade. For one thing, Arcade skills are Much more respectable - perhaps due to the universality of arcade machines. At home, your performance can vary greatly depending on the quality of your pads. However, a properly maintained arcade machine of a certain mix is pretty much the same experience everywhere.

And, if the perfect window for home playing is larger, then Arcade playing requires more skills. I certainly do seem to get better results on my home pads. But it's also partly due to the fact that homepad skills don't transfer over to the arcade very well...

I agree about the arcade atmosphere, but what's up with sunken arrows. Does anyone here benefit from that. That's why I actually like playing on the home pad. For one thing I'm lanky so freeze arrows suck at the arcade and I have a large foot that sometimes I can't even fit in the square of the arrow. Since its sunken sometimes I just end up just stepping on the rims of an arrow.

I like playing at the arcade because it's fun to carry all the people worse than me through every song.

One time I this guy named "DAVE" who is famous for beating onis wanted to come up and I carried/beat him in Saints Go Marching,SuperStar remix,Xenon, and Paranoia Survivor.

Ok here it goes.
The arcade is way better because(unless the arcade sucks... which alot of them do around here) the arrows are more responsive. I have a CF and AI's pads are still far more sensative. The other thing is the perfect window for home versions of DDR is huge. And it pisses me off! lol. I come close to, if not AAA most songs on the home version(except like max300 and maxx =P), and at the arcade i can only AAA 4 songs, and theyre all easy(8 step and below) and i average about 20 greats a song.
So if for no other reason than the perfect window the arcade is better =).

Currently, my favorite is the Arcade, because that's the only version I can access. I have no home version of DDR laugh.gif But I'll be borrowing Konamix and pad from a person I know this Friday.

UPDATE 8/14/03: I've gotten the pad and Konamix about 4 hours ago, I've played it about 2 hours during that time (not all at once). But I have to say that soft pads suck.

Don't tell me "you gotta get used to them" either. I mean seriously, I think either the pad cover or the cushion in the pad itself, pushes down the buttons inside and locks them so no matter how hard you press, the damn arrows won't go. So then I kept getting a bad grade for each song (C-F). Note this as well, this is a Red Octane pad!

i really prefer the arcade. Because the one at the arcade doesn't move and sometimesthe one at home the matt moves. I hate that because i usually fail the song. So my answer is arcade. LATS

yeah the arcade is a lot better than playing at home. i don't really play a lot at the arcade but, i noticed a big difference. i'm not afraid of ruining the pad or it moving but, the only problem is that it takes a couple of songs to get use to it. so i'm not as good as i am at home.
