Whenever I move on to a new difficulty(beginner to light, light to standard...even though i played beginnr only like three times) I always pass max300 on that difficulty, What do you do to make your self feel ready for a new difficulty.

I passed every song on the previous difficulty with a B or better before moving on.

Alright, once you can pass almost every song with the exception of The Safari, G2, etc. then you are ready to move out of Light7.

Then I suggest you doing the same on 7Key. Once you have passed every song on 7Key, again with the exception of the really hard songs like The Safari then you can move onto the easier Another songs.

Good luck.

I just go to songs. If I can't do them, I'll either 1: forget it untill I get better, 2: practice it.

I was pretty much told by players that I should move on to standard already, and made the switch long ago.

The switch to heavy isn't an across-the-board move, it's on a per-song basis. If the standard version is too easy, boring, or a no-brainer "A", then I will try the heavy version if I am confident and not too tired.

Just passed Tsugaru doubles heavy for the first time yesterday - barely.

For me, I only really played Beginner until I'd passed everything on Beginner on DDRUSA. Then on Light, I moved up by foot-ranking until I was playing stuff in the 4-5 range, and once I could beat Afronova, Dynamite Rave, Paranoia, and Max300, I figured there was no point in staying on Light, so I moved up to Standard. From there, like DF said, it's all about the foot-rankings on a song-by-song basis.

I took myself away from the light mode very quickly. I played on Standard for the longest time until finally the songs that I enjoy playing just weren't challenging anymore. I am still working on heavy mode to this day.

you'd probably get a better response in the gameplay forum.

Im sorry i just find it hard to make "the move" up by levels, i went by feet. I did all the 3's then 4's and so on, i do catas now, so my way worked for me. I mean thers light songs that are 7 feet and heavy songs that are 5, you gotta just do them how you see them.

I try to pass every song on a difficulty with an A before moving up.
On light i beat every song except the ones that are highend light which are basically low end standard songs, then i do did the same with standard mode, and now I'm doing the same with Heavy mode.

It's a good idea to follow the feet too but the feet can be very misleading at times. Some 8's are obviously easier then some 7's.

I've always tried to play songs I can't beat, then when I am able to beat them I am on to something new. For instance:

Hardest song I can currently beat: Captain Jack (Grandale Mix)
Current song I'm ATTEMPTING: Paranoia Survivor

I always shoot for something impossible (at my current level)...once I get about all the way through PS, I will try Max 300 and tear it up!

Take ladder steps along the foot ratings, from the easy songs of the same ratings to the hard songs of the same ratings.

The previous advice that says move from one song that you can't do to another is a good way to go.

Usually, the 1-3 foot barrier can be hopped over in your first week of gameplay; 4-5 feet songs should be conquerable in a month (most people take less time). 6-7 feet is usually the first major barrier, then after you break the mold of moving according to the base beat (and move along with the rhythm of the song), 8-9 is basically a smooth linear progression. 10... requires stamina more than skill, for the most part, so it varies from person to person when they break that barrier (but of course, that is not counting beating Sakura or Bag 3.0x as beating a 10)

Whenever. Usually if I feel like testing the waters, I make the jump on the final song of a game, when there really isn't much to lose. It's pretty hard to decide exactly when you should move up the ladder, so it's good to use that last song...

heh I kinda did that too...I remember being locked in my bedroom with a giant glass of water, my crappy Mad Catz pad (the one i attached adhesive Velcro to so it would stop moving on the carpet), my PS2, and DDRMAX and doing Max 300 about 8-10 times in a row to AA it like my boyfriend had. I WANTED THAT AA so bad i was willing to sell my soul or die trying! devil.gif With sweat dripping down my forehead for the first time in my life, I hit the last freeze perfectly, gasped in amazement (or lack of oxygen), ferociously double-handed flipped off the game, and screamed "FU** YOU!!!!!!!" laugh.gif
