First off...great topic

Second off...people who say "it’s a video game not a sport and nothing more"....why don’t you come up with something to back your opinion instead of just saying it and being so close-minded

third off...the word "sport" and all variations of it is not described in the English dictionary well enough to fit modern day things such as this (most English words were not designed to for present day variables) such as the word tree for example...if a tree is so short you cant see the trunk but you can see all the leaves surrounding it....is it a tree or a bush? See, the words tree and bush were not designed with that in mind, but enough about the English language and reasons not to argue about this...

forth off...most people are using modern day major sports such as soccer football basketball as examples to compare DDR to, but think about how these sports started out....they were all "just a game" as many people have stated DDR to be, basketball started as a bunch of people throwing a ball into a basket nailed to the wall, football probably started out as a game much like the modern day "smear the queer", and soccer started out as a bunch of people kicking a ball into a set area....see, all things we consider to be sports started out as very raw games with little rules, but as jonathan 948's dictionary definition stated, a sport is a competitive activity that needs physical effort and skill, run by a SET OF RULES...basketball has a very large rule book for all specifics but when it was still just people throwing a ball at a basket there were not all those rules, after much playing and debating, 3 pointers, fouls, free throws, and 2 pointers were developed, but when DDR first started, there was already the grading system of perfects greats goods boos and misses, so ddr starting out had more of a set of rules then basketball did, therefore if ddr had started the same time as basketball it would be more of a sport then and today
-end of point

BUT, as I have now said that ddr freestyle is and can very well be a sport, there is something about PA that makes takes away a bit from it being a sport...though I hate to show it because im more for the sport side of this debate, ill be a good 'sport' (lol) and tell it.....all modern sports (basketball, soccer, football) can always be better at, your 3 pointers can always be more accurate, your kicks can always go in more often, and your runningback can always run faster...but in ddr PA you can always have more perfects until you get to the point of making AAA on everything, that means there is a limit to a persons PA skill, meaning that because you cannot do better then AAA according to konami's ddr rules, there is a certain limit to how good you can be at DDR PA
-end of point

So in conclusion, DDR is and can be as much of a sport as anything else; there is a minor flaw to its spottiness in the limit of PA skill and high score

Now im going to take an Excedrin and watch spongebob cause my head hurts

I would consider it a sport. A great one at that. Loads of physical activity! I'd love to see it on TV, watching people bar-raping and Matrix Walking. ^^

Technically, it fills pretty much all of the definitions of sport. BUT it is a video game after all and shouldn't be considered a sport.. thats my opinion about all of this.

Cintifizzo, can you please elaborate? Sk8_4_eva and I aren't the first people to ask people to elaborate on their "It's a video game so it's not a sport, period." statements.

First of all I'd like to start of by saying that I like to think of DDR as a sport. From what I've read all of you consider running a sport. Some of you think that just because DDR is a video game it can't be a sport. Now I'm sure most of you remember the running game (I think it came out for SNES, I'm not sure). That was a game but does that mean that just because you're running on that mat all of a sudden running isn't a sport? I think dancing can be a sport too. So does that mean that just because you have to follow arrows all of a sudden it isn't a sport? I hope I got my point across =)
