|
|
A few months ago, I noticed my big toes on both feet were white in the center. I didn't think anything of it until after playing DDR in the arcades 3 days in a row 2 weeks ago when my nails looked like they were falling off. Right now, they are slowly becoming more and more deattached.
I know they are going to fall off and going to WebMD.com, it said it can take up to 18 months for toe nails to grow back.
I'm concerned, because not only are they falling off but that DDR probably caused them to fall off. Has this happened to anyone else? If it has, what did you do about it?
I really don't want to stop playing DDR but at the same time, I don't want to cause any permanent damage. |

Ouch, no.
I have had my toenails "stub" my toes, but never come off.
Maybe you should try to change the way you play. _________________

That's strange, I've never heard of any physical activity making your nails fall off. It's probably some nutrient you are lacking, or maybe a problem you have, see a doctor, that's always a good thing. _________________

Yeah see a doctor.
That's pretty unusual unless you weren't wearing shoes. |

Maybe it is because of something else. The reason I thought it was from wearing shoes and playing DDR was this taken from WebMd:
"Severe or repetitive toe stubbing may cause a toe nail to separate from the nail bed. This is also common in athletes who wear shoes that are not roomy enough."
Because of the continous rubbing of my toe against my sneakers when playing, I kind of thought that was why.
I guess I should go to the doctor even though I don't think it's serious. |

I don't think it's that bad. I know a whole bunch of girls on my track team that have had their toenails fall off from running. But yeah.. I don't really think you need to worry... the nail will grow back and if you feel really insecure about not having a toenail there, i think docs could put a fake nail in there for the time being ... or bandaids are cool too.. _________________

My toenails have chipped off like w0ah before, lost half a toenail last month and now I have uneven toenails. I've had a fingernail fall off before though, and it's no big deal. _________________

Well, I don't know what to say besides the obvious advice: go see a podiatrist about it, especially if it's causing you pain.
As far as preventative measures go, keep your toenails trimmed all the time, wear comfy socks (keeping socks with holes in them isn't being as thrifty as your might think), and find some shoes that provide enough support so that all the force from your steps doesn't end up at your toes.
But if it makes you feel any better, everyone I know who've I've seen with their shoes & socks off has gross toenails. Fungus, ingrowns, overgrowns, really small toenails...everyone has some kind of problem with their toes, if only cosmetic problems. |

this has almost happened to my boyfriend after playing ddr. one of his toenails turned a little purple around the bottom and it looked like it was gonna come off. it never did though. i guess it healed or something. so i guess it can happen. maybe depending on how much pressure you put on your foot. _________________

Never happen to me before, or maybe it has. I've played DDR all day and yes all day!! My toenails were so red that I had ingrown toenails. I cut the infected nail and let it heal. And now I'm still playing. |

I've gotten ingrown toenails before... yuck
The first one, I was stupid and I didn't do anything about it until it got REALLY bad.. to the point where it was bloody and oozing pus, and I peeled skin and pus from it every day... couldn't put a band-aid on it, I had to use this antibacterial stuff on it, and dry it with some kleenex every few minutes, and this went on for a few days before I got it cut. Just a few weeks ago, I felt another one coming - my toe really hurt when I touched it, and my skin was kinda puffing out like last time, so I took it easy for a few days and now it's gone. |

I think this was said be4, but i think u stupped ur toe too many times. My one friends plays soccer 24/7 and one time she kicked the ball so hard that it made her toenail come off. except not all the way off, oh no! the corner of it was still hanging on and she showed me and i'm like yuk!
so anyway...my point is not to worry. It sounds like it happened to loads of people on this board anyway |
