i read all this stuff on metal pads everywhere, and nothing really says any info!!!
first, the new metal pad from RedOctane (the one thats pre-order right now ( http://redoctane.com/redoctanemetalpad.html )).... if anyone knows, is it or is it not any good? if i have the extra money SHOULD i get a CF instead??
and the CF pads ( www.cobaltflux.com ), does anyone know is there is anything wrong with them? or am i really paying $300 for a reason heh...
and now the lik-sung.com $80 metal pads ( http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=22&products_id=3221& ), are they pretty much just MyMyBox pads? (like with the same/same amount of problems)?
i have really looked into these, and right now i ma reallly leaning ftowards the CF pad..... i just want to make sure i am not making a mistake... and not either A) paying more for the same as something else that is cheaper, or B) paying more for something that isnt worth that much...
thanks in adv.. |

Don't buy RedOctane because they are poopy. They shaft their tournaments by sending inferior products to what they promised. _________________

Look at the Cobalt Flux forums yourself if you want a general consensus of people who have bought them. _________________

I haven't actually used a Cobalt Flux, but I can tell just by looking at pictures of them that they a) at least don't look very durable b) Could never provide an experience even remotely similar to the arcade c) Is vastly overpriced. The other two you mentioned look incredibly flimsy in the pictures, but I've tried neither.
My advice is to either build your own, or wait for that one guy to start shipping his arcade-authentic collapsable platforms. |

I own a cobalt flux as well, and although I am satisfied with it, I don't think it was worth the money. Many people convince themselves that it was worth the money, because otherwise they would hate themselves for spending it.
The CF is indeed very durable, looks great, plays great, and isn't too high-maintenance, although you will want to keep a screwdriver handy. It doesn't feel at all like the arcade, but it's MUCH closer to the arcade than any soft pad.
However, I would still say the a CF is the only hard pad worth buying. If you think you can do it, build your own. _________________

I prefer my Cobalt flux over the arcade pad.
The only thing the cobalt flux can't give me that an arcade can is the atmosphere. |

roothorick, just why exactly doesn't a platform consisting solely of a melamine baseboard, sheetmetal, and lexan, NOT look durable? Where is there to break?
And maybe you should wonder why you've convinced yourself that the arcade pad is the best pad ever designed. I mean, the cobalt flux has 0 electronics within the platform itself, just the wires going to the front connector. Hard to break that through overuse. Arcade pads break down all the time because the sensors get dirty. Who knows, maybe Konami, if/when they release the 9th mix, will redesign the pads? |
