LOL, I know what you mean. My parents had a bunch of their friends over when I happened to be playing. They all wanted to try, and it was definitely one of the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. They were terrified to try anything over 1 foot . _________________

I've been waiting for a thread like this to pop up.
Just because someone is older doesn't mean they aren't (or can't become) good, though. The observations you make are definitely of those of people who have never played the game before, or are fairly new to it. However, you made the statement:
Quote: | Old peopla and Newbies are the funniest people to watch play DDR! |
Remember, though, some of them "old folks" own (I hate using that word in this sense) many of the younger folk.
Akudaikan, 37 years old, AAAs catas on double:

...of course, Akudaikan can be kind of funny to watch at times. I mean, even his voice is odd (as heard in those DDR videos). Still cool, though. I don't know *too* many hardcore gamers in their 30s and 40s...My dad is, though, and he is in his 50s. He can't play DDR, though; he much prefers high speed action and racing games, and loves those 3rd person 3D games for some reason... |

Only a few decades ago, computers where the size of a small house, cost billions of dollars, used vacuum tubes, and instead of a keyboard and monitor, they used punchcards and printers.
Most "old people" are more than "a few decades old." That's why there are relatively few good old gamers.
As for our parents generation (that is, 35~50 or so).... back in their day, they had pong and pac-man. Don't get me wrong, those were great games, but they existed mostly in arcades.... now that you can plop out $300 and get a home system, 3 games, and a built-in DVD player.... games are much more popular/commonplace.
Prediction: Thirty years from now, there'll be a lot more "old people" gettin' it on down at the arcades. Maybe not all playing tech-DDR as bones grow thin with age, but there'll definately be a handful or free stylers on whatever Benami game there is at the time unless 1. Armaggedon claims us sinful gamers or 2. Benami is goes bankrupt or is bought out by Micro$oft/Viacom/[other soleless companies here].

You will be those people. And your kids too.
Funny thing, that reporter thinking he should match the background character's dance moves. What was he thinking? How is the machine supposed to know if he's actually doing it?!
The first time I tried Virtual Reality at some exhibition (that lame game with the gun) I looked down at "my" hand (in VR) and wiggled my real fingers to see if the VR ones would wiggle. Of course they did not. In about one second I realized why and smiled, feeling silly for trying. |

Last night, I saw a daughter and mother playing DDR. The daughter was probably in her late 20s, and the mother was probably in her 50s. They weren't bad either, both were probably around 5 foot level. |

The other day while waiting in line an oldr guy saked if I wanted to go with him cuz i never have a partner and usually end up playing with people 10x my level. Any way i ask him how good he is, he tells me that he is so-so. So then i ask him what level he usually plays on he tells me he tries to do maniac. I feel definitly embarressed as i can normally on do trick. When we get up there i teel him to chose the first song. He picks 7 jump (maniac so i ffelt VERY relieved that he only played lower levels on maniac) but still i would have guessed he was mabey 45-50. _________________

My mum and dad had a go with their friends when they were drunk, my mum was alrite for a first go, my dad sucked
When my Nan came to our house, she was watching me and was amazed, and she offered to have a go! 74yo btw! She completed a song, I was so proud and she didn't even build up a sweat
I think DDR will go on for a long time, I wonder when I will stop? when I get arthritis (sp?) in my knees?...most likely _________________
