Hey, what do you all think of this.
What if there was a program that showed exactly where your feet had to be at any time during a song, with say a stick figure on a dance pad. and then to that minimum amount of movement, you could add whatever tricks you wanted (hadplant, kneedrop, flares, whatever) that way you could preview a routine before even trying it, to make sure you don't look like an a$$. this would work with at least foot movements, you'd still have to figure out what to do with your arms, but once you have the footwork down, it seems like it would be much easier to figure that out.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. But my trouble is this. What do you all think about the future of DDR freestyle? I mean, don't get me wrong, Extreme was a good game, but I'm still not happy with the freestyle selection in DDR. As the games continue to progress, the freestyle dries up more and more.
I mean, would it be so hard to put more Beatmania in? I don't get it. That and the fact that the newer songs are sounding the same. I don't know what will be left soon. I still think there is more to do, more innovation, more cheers and more ddr greatness, but the whole question now for me is how much longer?
I just finished a kind lady freestyle for my peeps at A.C a few weeks ago. It was fun, but I want some stuff like Peace Out, Gambol, and Deep in you up in an arcade version of DDR of here on our shores. Those songs are so good, improv would probably be much easier and they could get the crowd going. Jam & Marmalade? Logical Dash? That's the stuff new freestyle should be based on, I think?
Where do you guys see it going? What do you think about beatmania bafflery?

I think it hasn't been the same since 5th Mix. Some might argue that it really hasn't been the same since 1.5.
I put in 1st Mix at home, and I do nothing but freestyle and dance to Strictly Business, My Fire, etc. I do the same for 5th Mix, nothing but FS. But other than that, I'm PAing other mixes.
Songs that are real good have crappy steps. I can name a ton...Don't Stop, Midnight Blaze, Mr. T, Wonderland.
And then the songs that have great steps are the ones that are used a ton in tournaments (Spin the Disc, etc.). So what do some people do? They make edits, and then those are frowned upon, but I understand why.
I would love to see more danceable and catchy songs in another mix if it's ever made. I mean, who freestyles to Crash! or Love (heart) Shine? Those songs should be replaced with ones like Strictly Business, Peace Out, Radical Faith. _________________

I think that 4th+ was the best machine in terms of freestyling because there are a lot of mid-tempo songs (After the Game of Love, Baby Baby Gimme Your Love, Byul, Gotcha, Get Up and Dance, I Believe in Miracles, etc. etc. etc.) that were really easy to freestyle. 5th was OK (took out Get Up and Dance though >.<)...and then it all went downhill from there. But hey...this is just my opinion .

Marc (who should be in Anaheim for a certain tourney) hit the money. There are few danceable songs that are 120-140. Now, either a song is 70 bpm or 300 bpm that doesn't flow. What would be cool is if Konami came out with an all Hip-Hop, R&B type mix for the home consoles, or maybe a solo version. _________________

I've only ever tried to freestyle to songs in DDRMAX, but i think i'll have to agree. I'm just starting and the steps, aren't good enough and i can't see any moves i could do, or the song is too fast or too hard. I was trying to work out a routine for Drop the Bomb sf mix on standard, but i realized that it just wouldn't work, even though i love the song. I guess i should move on to Kind lady (which i love), but with my ddr playing friends, it's technical or nothing, who cares if i FC Max300 on heavy if i look like a demented frankinstien doing it? _________________

any song in ddr can be freestyled to. Just because the notes are bad doesnt mean u cant make a great routine for it. You just have to be creative enough. |

I'm sure you can, but when you're starting, you should do something where you look at the steps yu can see where to do a slide, or a turn. Shouldn't you? _________________

would turning around in circles be freestyling? I mean using the arrows that allow you to turn around in circles not just turning on your own. I don't do it anymore, i get dizzy too much, but i like six flags magic mountain rides! _________________

What the hell was that???
Anyway, I used to look at my feet too. But I figured its more fun to look at the crowd and smile. I'm mainly there to impress them. Not my feet.
I think freestyle is still aight. I mean the song selection is ok. My Fire, Hero disco mix, and others will be missed very much so, but other songs such as lets groove, long train running, and spin the disc have taken their place. Unfortunately. Within one month, they're overused. What do you do? INNOVATE! Use the same song but mass produce hella moves. Thats what I do. Then people are like WHOA! Whenever I'm around, they dont' want to do the songs i do for fear I will bust them out. Its not my fault. Peace

I agree that a lot of the previous mixes had some choice songs to freestyle to (i.e. My Fire, Radical Faith, Wonderland, Beautiful 21c, Strictly Business, Cafe, STMB, etc.), but I personally thought that MAX had some great songs like both Groove's, Highs Off U, Miracle, Let's Groove, Midnight Blaze (fun on doubles standard, nice series of glides) and even especially some of the stuff from MAX2 (A Minute, Long Train Running, Spin The Disc). However in Extreme, there have been quite a few additions or stuff that I can't even begin to think about how to freestyle to like, well, just about anything with love in the title or stuff like that. Though the new mixes of Do It Right and Look To The Sky and Kind Lady are great.
Whoever proposed the idea of an all R&B/Disco/Funk mix, I wholeheartedly agree!! |

Hey all
I'm a freestyler, and I'm not that good - but I'm the best around here, and that's the problem. I play in Dublin, Ireland and we have a few technical players but I haven't got any freestyling competition. And without competition, you don't progress.
I'm trying to improve - anybody got any ideas for keeping it going without anybody to play against, in a place where kneedrops and handslaps are still new and exciting moves (I wish I was kidding)..... _________________

Look for a style you're willing to go into in music videos and stuff. If you like what they are doing copy whatever they are doing trying to perfect it. Practice without music on a certain move in front of a mirror. Music is like an instructor that tells you what to do with the song. You're just an instrument doing what the music telling you to do. _________________
