this is my first time ever posting. i have been playing about 7 months and all i ever do is practice at home and eventually after watching others occaisionally at arcades i figured how to to just about everthing. so thats the best thing i think you can do. and even though this is pretty much repeating what was said in the first post in this topic thinger, it is the most important.
so practice. a lot. and play at home. a lot. then go to an arcade and watch.
then practice more.
now that ive been the 87th person to say that here i feel as if im from the department of redundency department

What about this:
I can beat catas and stuff but I have trouble sometimes. See, the problem is, I don't get enough practice. I can only get maybe an hour in a day because I have a life! I don't wanna give up, but I wanna make my feet go faster in songs like Afronova and Max 300 laugh.gif

Who said an hour isn't enough? I can pass each Max with a B or higher, I came 15 seconds away from beating paranoia survivor max oni steps, and I've been playing for about 6 or 7 months, and the most I have ever played is 2 hours at most.. and that's not often. An hour is good enough for me. Especially concidering I can only spend 5 bucks a week on DDR. Some people I know spend like 30 bucks a week or more playing but that doesnt help them.

It doesnt take a lot of money, or a lot of play time. In fact, I recommend only going for a half hour and spreading your practice out through the week. What matters the most, is that you perfect what you excell at, and you challenge what you suck at. The people who never get good are the people who stick to the songs they know, and if they fail a slightly harder song once they never go back to it...

So just challenge youself, and be proud of what you are good at. It will boost your self-esteem while you play, and help you with those tougher songs.

People have different ways at getting better. The main thing is lay off the heavy songs you know you can do. Make sure to play with other people, it will only benefit you. Let them know that you aren't so good at heavy, and they will probably help you pick out some easy songs to play, and if they don't feel like doing an easy song, simply step it down to standard for that song.

Playing with others is the best way to get good, because you can listen and feel how their feet hit the beats, and sometimes you can even look over if you are confused (especially gallops, I didn't understand until I saw a friend do it, then I got it first try).

well, it takes a whole lot of stamina to pass Dropout on maniac with a B (suggesting that i did). So what i did was just keep doing songs that require stamina and keep practicing.

er.. I'm kind of stuck. I'm stuck between 5 and 6 footers. I've read all the improving gameplay stuff, but it still doesn't seem to work. can anyone reccomend some excersizes or a specific song I can work on that might improve my gameplay and help me advance further?

Er, well I've been playing for a bit, and I can finally do 9-footers, but I'm still failing on hard 8's and stuff. This has sorta helped me a bit, but from experience I think that the only thing that can get you better is time. Eventually you'll just be able to do it. Er, now I just have to tackle 10-footers, and maybe get AAA on something... or even AA...

I'M BACK!!!

Yeah, I know I lurk, more like ghost, but whatever.

Yeah, chalk up something for me, too. Time to ditch the red foot, cause now I can do songs on the Maniac levels. Good ones are Brilliant 2 U, Burnin' The Floor, and Drop The Bomb. You'll never learn unless you do 'em, and I have and am still. Here to stay, here to dance.

I don't care if what I have to say has been said, I'm too lazy to read all the posts.

-Listen to the beats and music in the songs, and what ones are accented, because a lot of complicated steps will revolve around this, such as Gradiusic Cyber and Spin The Disc.

-Look for repeated rhythms in step patterns, like Dynamite Rave and such.

-Play different kinds of songs a lot (fast, slow, high-Voltage/Stream/Chaos/Air/Freeze, balanced) because doing this helps you to recognize step patterns like individual gallops vs. jumps, gallop streams, step-jumps, and certain rhythms.

I know someone on the first page said you should play until you're all beat out. But I'm on a limited supply of money. How much do y'all suggest spending? Here, the games are .50 apiece.

at my local arcade (.75), i spend about 10 bucks every friday or saturday, which gets me about 2 hours of singles, a little less if no one else is playing. when it was 50cents (fiddy-cent) 10 bucks went a long long way.

Hehe riiight.gif I went to an arcade where it was .50 a game and I spent $45 riiight.gif bwahahaha lol..

I learned to read the arrows first by playing with the controller. Reading the arrows became no problem. Then I bought a homepad to develop my foot and eye cordination. As I got better, I started playing more on the arcade. Playing on the arcade is sooooo much better cuz of sliding 'n stuff. Once you start getting the hang of all the 8th beats and blah blah, play Max300 on standard. It will increase your foot speed making the rest of the songs, like Healing Vision Angelic mix, slower. I use Max 300 as my second song to make me ready for a hard one on my third. And its good to keep your body still, not all swingish. Kinda like what Yasu does in video where he's playing max unlimited w/o the bar. disgust.gif erm.gif disturb.gif

BuRnInThAfLo789 - On the machine (not pad), press both arrows on your side and it'll give you a list of more songs in alphabetical order. Some good songs are: Max300, A, Paranoias, Trip Machines riiight.gif

Learn to play an instrument. The music is probably the most important part of a... er, song riiight.gif . Learning an instrument will help you pick up the beat to a song, and your timing will drastically improve. I play bass guitar and drums, and even when I just started out, I have always been able to get a much larger percentage (75% or more) of perfects than most beginners on most songs.

Play on your toes. Not only will you be able to move faster, but you'll gain back some energy from your calf muscles, causing a "spring" that picks up your foot, so you won't tire your muscles doing so. On eighth notes that are all on one button, you can use this bounce to easily hit them fast enough. Once you get the hang of it, you'll have no trouble switching from note to note like this (like in R3).

Listen to some techno music. Go download some DDR songs online. Listening to the genre will give it a more natural feel, and you can identify the lines and loops of the instruments. This will also help you pick up the beats to DDR songs.

Learn to read notes. Vary the songs you play/order you play them in, and you'll learn how to sort out those difficult patterns that cloud the screen like storm... clouds riiight.gif (like Orion .78).

Practice, practice, practice! Nothing works better than playing the game!

OMG CL4R1N3T 1S T3H SUP3R H4RDK0RE

Seriously, though, there is no top-secret technique. Just learn how to find the beat of the song a and read the arrows, and you'll be playing better in no time.

hi, i would say i am pretty good, i can do one Heavy song (Abyss-B,) most Standard songs, and all Light songs. the thing that keeps me from getting better grades is when there are steps like left, half-beat down, right, or right, half-beat down, left, and steps that are in one direction, but all half-beats, like in abyss heavy how there are all right or all left half-beats. i just simply cannot do those! i have a crappy third party pad with cardboard under it to keep it solid, but that doesnt affect how well i do, besides the fact that sometimes left doesnt press, riiight.gif but still, i need to figure out how to make those steps or i will never progress in heavy mode!

BTW, i have DDRMAX and DDR Konamix home version.
