How long will DDR be around? I mean, good things can't last forever, so how much longer will the popularity of DDR last? When will people get tired of it?

I hear that Konami is discontinuing the series, except for perhaps a DDR Extreme 2 because of the popularity of DDR Extreme. Voice your opinion on how DDR is doing and how much longer it will last here.

I personally don't see it lasting that much longer, but I'll play it till' it dies....and then some. Im sure something new will come along though, that will be the "new" ddr.

i dont think ddr will ever die out. as long as there are new people playing and older people continueing 2 play, i dont think it will. i think it will b like pacman or space invaders, a classic that is found in many arcades 2day

I thought it already was dying out. Its dead in Japan and is dying on the west coast. The East Coast is really the only place DDR still has a lot of life.

It depends on Konami.

If they continue to dish out new mixes and make things exciting for the old players, then yes DDR will stick around for a long time.

In order for that to happen, people must continute to play DDR. I see mew players all the time so yes I think this will happen too.

It'll be a slow death. Ugh. The worst.

As each of you stop playing the game, you will stop caring about it. After that, it won't matter anymore and you'll see the game for the little popularity that remains for it at that time.

Becoming a DDR expert is as useless in real life as mastering the yo-yo.

Hmmm... It's interesting to see the differing opinions of people on this board. But, I kind of have to agree with Drenchfur on the matter.

I think DDR will eventually die out, because most of us that are here now will lose interest in the game eventually. I've come to terms with these kinds of things; as I matured I learned that even though I thought I would always do what I was into at the time forever, I kind of get tired of things and let them go. So, I assume this will be the fate of DDR in my life. But with time, of course. I've still got a while yet to play the game frequently.

By 2005 or so, it dies in 2010. My guess.

maybe they have all the machine because they acquired them when ddr was uber popular and they dont feel like paying the shipping charges to another state.

IMO, ddr will die out completely in about 3-4 years. konami is still going to make another mix and it will be popular in America for a while. maybe a year or two later, people will be tired of it, and tired of ddr completely. the only people left will be those who have already lost their girlfriends/boyfriends, families, loved ones, friends, pets, trees, and so on to ddr.

It will probably never die out. Even if it does, that means the people who still play it can call themselves the best of the best. I hope it doesn't die out, but if it does, I'm going to be playing it untill one of three things happen. 1: I lose control of my legs. 2: I'm too old and frail. 3: I die

It'll be sort of like Pokemon.. very abrupt.
One day, everyone will just stop caring. when is that day? ... who knows? Not any time soon around here, seeing as we just GOT DDR machines.. gahhh.[/b]

Well right now it seems like more people are getting into it than before so i don't think it would really die out i think it would most likely become popular....thats just my opinion though

I don't think it will die anytime soon in the US because it still has a lot of room to grow. On the other hand, I think that unless Konami comes out with something new and revolutionary to add to the game soon (as in the next two mixes or so), people will start to lose interest.

People can only be interested in DDR for so long. Nobody ever gets perfect at DDR, but once you virtually conquer the game it is no longer challenging in a fun way. These people ineviatebly lose interest. Some people give up before they get good once DDR becomes too challenging for them.

Theresfore the length of DDR's survival is dependent on new people becoming interested. If enough new people continue to become interested the series will last as long as the arcades themselves.

As long as there's one person still playing, DDR will never die. Even if say a tyrant leader comes along one day and kills anyone who plays on a DDR machine, I can guarantee there'll still be people desperate enough to fashion a crude pad on the tiles of their floor to make up steps. (That's what I did when I busted my home pad). I'm starting to think that I've reached my limit, but do you think I'm gonna quit? No way.

Games don't "die". Games just become unpopular.

I'm sure I'll play it here and there into the future.
