Made first in Minnesota. (I believe. If I'm wrong, correct me... sorry)
The thread that's basically my journal on how I made them is here:
http://www.bemanimn.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=579
BemaniMN is a private board though, sorry about that...
But if you'd like some more information, feel free to contact me at [email protected]. My design was sort of based on ddrhomepad's, but I used a solid piece of plywood for the base and anchored the corners with screws rather than brackets.
They work great... the Pump arrows are perfect dimensions, and the feel is perfect, solid as arcade pads. They're getting really sensitive now, and they're quiet as a mouse on top of that.
They really work.
And I'm working with a friend who's making a DDR/Pump emulator... he's going to put in 9-panel support; all 9 panels to play on at the same time. Crazy! |

That pad... is incredible...
Since I'm becoming interested in PIU, you can definitely expect an e-mail from me. Unfortunately, I take it this would only be useful with the simulated versions of PIU, correct? _________________

Oops... I should have the red buttons on top. You should get the idea. It's not like a tic-tac-toe grid. If you want PIU hard pads you're going to have to custom build those. |
I am a fairly devout Pump player, and I am very keenly aware of the rectangular buttons in Pump. However, after trying several layouts in order to preserve the Pump button shapes, I found there were none possible. So the little overhangs (note that they're only really about an inch long) had to be sacrificed for the pad.
But the screws holding the corners down are only 1/2" from the corner of the button, so when the pads become sensitive (they are now, after a week and a half of play) stomping on the corner-meeting area produces the same effect as stomping on the overlap-area on a Pump arcade pad does. Holiday is still possible.
And it's not a pure Technomotion pad; Pump corners are just *slightly* bigger than DDR arrows, so the corners are 12"x12" and the other five buttons are 11"x11". But yes, Technomotion is possible on the pad.
I forgot to mention this before... the top two skinny buttons are Select and Start, and the bottom three caution-stripe buttons are L1, L2 and R1. The middle button is connected to R2. So I don't know what you were referring to with "PIU simulators", Nekura, cause all the released versions of Pump I know of are for the computer (Pumpy, KIU, SM), so the buttons can simply be mapped as needed within the game config.
And Kaorin (pad 1 ) works awesome with DDR too.

Any chance you could like, make a simple HTML page with instructions on how to build...i have to say yours looks far simpler than other ones....

Working on the HTML page. I'll post the site here when it's done. In the meantime, check out the BemaniMN thread if you don't mind creating a username there. The thread has most everything but doesn't go into great detail in a lot of places.
And about the simplicity - that's the beauty of it. When every panel on the pad is a button, you simply make the buttons and don't have to make the extraneous panels of sheet metal and such. Then you use plywood for the base and bury your electronics in it. I'm still putting the *finishing* touches on both the pads (Sakaki -pad2- was finished today. ), which will involve putting some vinyl bordering around the edges to hide the plywood, and putting rubber on the bottom for slipstop. |

He meant private in the sense that you must register in order to be able to view the posts. _________________
