I saw it on a tv show. they sneaked out of school to practice and play, to enter a tourny. i thought it wasnt real, so i decided to make it up. then sometime later, we went to birhmingham, AL, and saw 3rd mix. i played, and sucked, HARD. I only played Shock beginner :-). after that i was hooked. later, when i found out there were other mixes, i pretended the songs on thoes didnt exist. up until this year, i started liking other songs.
how did you discover DDR?

I saw Tamarik playing it at the local mall.
He looked like an ass. But he looked like he was having fun.
So I decided to try. |

Friend of mine on another board posted a link to flashflashrevolution. Played it, thought it was kinda fun. Girl at my college sent me stepmania. I booted it up, played it a little thought it was pretty damn fun. Friends and I went to watch X2 and had some time to kill before hand. My friend went to play DDR and told me I was playing also. I tried it, sucked hard at it, but had a damn fine time. Watched some others play right after me on standard and knew I wanted to do that, so I did. Kinda long, but thats what happened |

It seems I've known about DDR since forever, but I never went to arcades/bolling alleys so I never started playing until this year when my brother's friend brought over his PS2 DDR MAX + Crap Pad.

I first saw it when I was in Scandia a couple years ago, it looked like a cool game so I decided to check it out. I sucked the 1st day, but that's not what matters. I'm not one of those "I'm into anime, which is why I'm into DDR." I don't like anime. |

First saw DDR in the West Edmonton Mall back in 2001. They had several Bemani if I remember right (wasn't interested then) but what caught my attention was this 12-year old busting it up on the 4th Mix they had hooked up to a projection screen. I was fascinated, and after one 15-second game, addicted.
One day I will go back. It's boring on the prairies. |

I was at my friends house with a few of my other friends, and one of them brought ddr for playstation, I thought it looked silly, but then I heard one of the songs he was playing, it was captain jack, I loved that song. I tried to play ddr then, got to a real slow start, but then I bought the game, and realized that I really like the music in ddr, and thats why I stuck with it, I love the music. |

Good post idea yoshi! btw yoshi rox! Anyways i first saw DDR at my local arcade, Malibu Castle golf and games, about 3, maybe 4 years ago, and these guys who were really good were playin USA so i decided to play, i didnt do too bad for a first try. Then for about 5 months i kept playin, but i only played Boys and So many men which were unfortuantely the easiest ones i could do. I never stopped playin since. _________________

My brother asked me if I would go to the Everquest convention with him in San Francisco (because I live nearby) and I thought it would be a good way to get some free food so I went (I don't play Everquest). After dinner they had an afterparty at the arcade in the Metreon. I think my brother suggested trying DDR, but we hopped on a USA machine on beginner mode. I was hooked.
I was in awe of a couple of people doing a little freestyle on dub-i-dub light. There was also a guy there who could do almost any song on expert, backwards, and/or on doubles. I didn't think that was as impressive because he just memorized the steps. That's pretty funny to me now.
Anyway, the arcade in the Metreon has a bar so we were drinking and playing DDR for hours. The 'good' players there were very supportive of our total newbieness. I was immediately told not to step to the center and I was encouraged to try light songs instead of forcing them to play on beginner over and over. We were also really annoying counting out loud and clapping when other newbies were playing. We actually thought that was helpful!
So thank you to everybody who helped me out even when I was a really ignorant newbie. They were the nicest DDR players I've ever met.
When I got home I went right out and bought Konamix and a crappy home pad from Target. It was funny watching my husband and brother stomp the pad until it got into the scrunched up stickiness of death.
And that is how it all began. |

I first got interested when my cousin told me about it and how you used your feet. I first saw sopmeone play it at Otakon 2000 and had to find somewhere to play it. I bought a pad but was unable to find the game. At Otakon 2001 I played it for the first time and was so impressed by this one kid freestyling to dynamite rave that I went down to the dealers room and immediately bought the new DDR USA. _________________

I took me a while to figure this one out...
I remember back in Phoenix a friend of mine had downloaded DWI V105 (the really old one). I play it on keyboard for a while and I got a copy of it one day. I was hooked on it but wondered how my skills on the pad would be.
I don't remember where I started playing it with my feet, but I do remember sucking pretty bad. And after that, I was hooked.
One of my earliest memories was back in December of last year when I was home on leave. I played a bit at the Gamewerks at the mall for my friends and didn't do too bad. It would be a long time before I would play again. But I started seriously playing it about 4 months ago so hey... I'm pretty good now _________________

It was in the same day, two of my friends (who didn't know each other) both told me they had spent the day playing DDR. Since they both thought it was so good, I decided to try it out. I was looking around on this site to see if there were any machines near my house (which there weren't at the time) and my brother saw me, so he bought me Max for Christmas. And several months later, here I am. _________________

I first saw it at my friends birthday party. I thought they were the best although they only played on standard (DDR USA) and when one of them got a AAA i was really inpressed (I now know that its easy to get AAA's on USA). I tried and made an buttocks of myself on beginner mode . Next day i bought Konamix and a cheapo pad, to try to reach the "greatness" of my friends skills. |
