I hear ya man. im all for breaking records, triple As, and poopy, but not at the expense of dance. i mean, those who play a dance game without dancing outa be ashamed. im not saying that no one should play hard songs and that we all should just dance on the game, but for god sakes people at least try to make it look entertaining!
i do 9s and 10s, but i still use my arms while doing them. technique will atract people, but u gotta look good to keep them watching. its called dance dance revolution, not riverdance rejects revolution (okay i know that was corny, but what the hell).
USE YOUR ARMS OR BODY SOMEHOE EVRYTIME U PLAY. ANYSONE ANYWHERE!!!!
if u dont make it look entertaining u will also get retarded remarks from people: "he must be addicted" "i bet he plays this game 24/7" "what a freak" "i bet he has no life"
so please dont look like a stiff fool while playing, it burns people eyes

Again, if we are going to get into the "you need to do a 'real' dance or else you're doing the entire game wrong!!!" argument, what about guitar freaks and beatmania? It's a game that slightly resembles the name. Not everything in the world has to have a name that fits it 110%.

I always use my body when I play, mainly my feet. No where does it say that you have to flail around like a maniac to get attention, and personally, when people do that I think they look more stupid then when they aren't moving hardly at all. I never do anything like that and I've gotten compliments for young kids to old men and I've never recieved a bad comment.

As for attracting crowds and how you say thats the only way to get people (even though it seems to depend on the place), i don't speak for everyone but I'm sure not all of these people only play for attention. I don't care wheather people are watching me or not. I play for myself.

Also, riverdance is a dance.

I also sorry but:

Please learn to spell check your posts, and this is even in all caps so it sticks out even more.

(Man, jet lag got me ranting today....sorry if I got off at the end there, too)

Maybe all of the tech players you've met, but clearly you haven't met them all...don't be so quick to pass judgement on ALL tech players because of the mistakes of a few.

I mean in almost any game. action, fighter, puzzle, shooter, strategy, you can do that in almost any game and most games reward you for doing stuff that "looks cool"

Generally the cool-looking things that give you points do so because they were designed to be a part of the game and they meet one or more of the games objectives. Now I love to watch freestyle and I may try it some day, but there is no question that the manual for the game describes the instructions merely as stepping on the arrows as they pass through the step zone.

And finally, added for good measure....

getting five line combo in tetris

You can only get a four line combo, at least in the original tetris.

I'm not even going to bother with this topic anymore because it's obvious that some aren't listening. some guy up there was quoting my last post and critizising it and making points that were that exact same points I made later. on quote one, WHAT DID I SAY? "every DDR'er THAT I'VE MET" you follow by saying that I haven't met all. no sh*t! that's why I said "THAT I'VE MET" God. on second quote WHAT DID I SAY? sure I said some games reward you for looking cool, maybe if you read a little further you would see that I point out that some don't, my main point being that DDR doesn't reward you for looking cool. do you have a reading disability where you can only read random parts of a paragraph? and on the last quote. Well ssoooorry princess. F*ck if I care how many blocks it was, all I remember is that it rocks when you get the long block to take every line it sits in. come back later when you learn how to read

...talk about backpedeling.

if you read Optimus' first post and Optimus' second post, there are glaring, glaring, GLARING contradictions/inconsistencies between the two. I pointed most of them out in my post.

The fact is - Optimus, you basically tried to assert freestyling's supposed superiority over technical play (saying that tech players look like retards, that the point of the game is to dance {your whole DANCE DANCE emphasis}, that basically tech is dumb...) Once your case was sliced to pieces you tried to salvage what you could by backpedeling faster than the economy's currently sliding (which is to say, pretty darn fast). So your points have now become: tech players that you have met are condescending and that DDR doesn't reward you for looking cool. Quite a difference from the first post, neh?

I've read every word you've typed, and to be quite frank with you a lot of it's pure tripe (especially your last post, which is just plain evasive). To sum it up - freestylers are likely to be just as arrogant as tech players (see yourself for an example); freestylers and tech players can both draw crowds, depending on the area; and, freestyle or tech is a purely personal choice, neither of which is superior to the other. nobody's trying to attack you personally; stop being so defensive. And telling people they have reading disabilities when you haven't bothered to answer most of the relevant points on the thread isn't exactly the best way to facilitate discussion. All of the rest of us are staying civil - why can't you?
