Playing through Grandia again on my PSX. I was startled to hear a sample from Macho Gang repeat throughout the town BGM of Ganbo.
The part of Macho Gang I refer to is when the scary glove-man pops up and makes odd noises. That exact sound effect is in the chorus of Ganbo Festival from the Grandia OST Volume 1.
Listen to track 9 on disc 2; at around 34 seconds in you'll hear it plain as day.
Yeah, just ah---neat I guess. =] |

That sample is kicked around Konami quite a bit apparently. You can also hear it in Janejana from Dance Maniax. But it'll always be the Scary Glove Man Sound in my heart. |

That was a horrible, horrible port of a fantastic game I cry whenever I play it... that's why I stopped. _________________

Yeah it suffered pretty bad on Sony's machine, but was at least brought to the US. Had it been released on the US Saturn back in the day, it would've beaten the pants off FFVII.
...maybe. In my own little world it would. =D |

Funny, I listened to the Grandia OST over and over before even starting to play DDR, and noticed the reverse reference, ie that Macho Gang took one of Grandia's samples...
Another sample reference: good-cool's Cry Out from PnM4 ASC samples from Einhander. Finally noticed that while playing ntrophi's TM4 entry... |

I was also startled when I heard a DDR song in Zone of the Enders. It's been awhile since I played it but I think the song was Genom Screams. Needless to say, it was a pretty cool feeling. _________________

Another instance of Konami borrowing samples: part of the rap segment of the ED theme to Kanon (the game, NOT the anime) is used in Small Waves in IIDX 4th Style, unless dj TAKA and KEY really are the same person, which I doubt (though some IIDX tracks by Taka, like Flowers for Albion, sound AWFULLY similar to some tracks in Kanon and Air). _________________

Isn't The Earth Light also from ZoE and Beatmania?
The most shocking example of sample reusage I've noticed was in TaQ's Stoic and the IIDX version of Atomic Kitten's Right Now. If you're listening to the DDR 5th mix version of Right Now then you won't hear it. In the IIDX version they needed an excuse for you to use the turntable in at least one place during the song and the result was that Stoic-pop every other measure near the beginning. It would've remained a nameless random keysound if TaQ hadn't created a song featuring it much later. |
