Hey! My sister's going to Berkley for a summer session! Uh, anyways though:

-First off, I'd recommend you go with a modded PS2. For about what you'd pay for a JP one, you can get a Brand-New system modded with a Messiah 2 from Dave at PSX Tech or Krawl at Fast Modz. (http://www.psxtech.com, http://www.fastmodz.com) The Messiah 2 would cover all of your needs in that area, PLUS you could play backups meaning you could keep your originals safe like they should be. You'd pay like $10 more for one, but I promise it'd be worth it. You can PM me if you want to learn more about the different specs of modchips and more stuff in that area. Also, since you may already have a US unit, you could just get it modded for like $120 shipped and you'd be set. It's really up to you though. Or you could trade it in with Krawl (he does that) and get like $100 off of your new modded v.7 PS2.

-For Gitudora, I'd try not to pay more than $65 for an official JP copy. That said, also considering that if you do go with a Pre-Mod, buying from Japan Video Games is not a good choice. You'd end up paying about $80 from them since you live in CA, they charge heavy shipping, etc. You could probably get the game shipped for a buck or two more than $65 on eBay if you're willing to wait a week or two to find one. There was one that I bid on that I thankfully did not win because I found another one from a friend at a much better price (cough cough) a couple days ago, but it only closed at like $62 and had about $4 shipping. If you want an official copy try there.

-You'll need controllers to get anything out of GF and DM, and you have 2 options (well, I guess 3 for the drums). You can either buy cheap (quality and price unfortunatly) controllers for each, and pay about $25 total for the GF and about $60 total for the DM. You'd get out cheap for either, and those quotes include shipping, but I'd sure as hell advise you to stay away. I've personally never used either, but I've heard all sorts of horror stories. I've got an official DM controller that I got an incredibly good deal on from a member here, and I'm considering getting a GF one, but the DM one is working great. No issues, unlike a 3rd party one. However, eBay has several officials up at any given time, but most are sold from Japan, and even though the prices are cheap when you look at the bid price, the shipping is very high because the sellers are taking a huge cut on an already large shipping cost. I'd try http://www.toysnjoys.com. You can get a used GF Konami controller for $105 shipped, and the DM one comes out to about $200 shipped. Explore around, or just check eBay and hope to get a great deal. Also note that you don't need to buy both at the same time to enjoy your new game; just one or the other would keep you busy for a good amount of time if you needed to save up more to get the other.

Anyways, good luck, hope you can find what you want.

I've got a Topway DM controller and it works great. The only things on Gitadora that I can't clear with it are Daydream Expert Real and 1175. And frankly, I'd have trouble with those on a full size arcade setup.

Yeah, GF3/DM2 looks really nice, but good luck finding a copy at a decent price. And it doesn't have as many songs available for Session, and it looks like there are fewer for DM2, but it's all really good stuff. But without 2x mode on GF, I'd be screwed. ;-)

Definitely. Just give us Gitadora Best Hits with an orgy of a couple hundred songs from GF1/DM1 through GF9/DM8. There's no way that wouldn't sell.
