why is it that almost everyone I see playing DDR, only goes for being techical. going for the goal of doing the ultra fast MAX sh*t or whatever, getting nothing but perfects, the extra stage and shuch, all the while looking like f*cking idiots on crack with legs flying everywhere, arms not moving and their heads fixed in some retarded daze.
I believe that the purpose of the game(now just try to understand this) "'Dance' 'Dance' Revolution" is to, (beieve it or not) dance. [gasp!] And that the Slower songs(and I simply mean slower than that MAX crap and others like it) are more fun to play because you can acually "dance" to them, not flailing around like you got down syndrome.
Furthermore, Why doesn't hardly anyone play doubles? sure it's twice the price but WAY more fun and danceable than single play(Unless you're totally rocking out with the freestyle) The kids at the arcade ridicule me (and not even to my face the little punks) for doing "slower songs" And so what if I miss a ton of steps in a song or two. at least I TRY to have some kind of STYLE.
Dare I say I even suspect that many people play not even caring about whether or not they like the song, but how "hard" it is.
and while they play in their fashon, when I get up to the pads to play I get the crowds of people watching, because I acually look remotely interesting when I play. _________________

Well.
Some of us like the challenge, and don't exactly have the grace or balance to do stylish moves.
As to double V.S. single, it all depends on the person. If they can get from one pad to the next quickly and easily double is fun, but i found that my friends on the shorter side have a problem with double because of, well, shortness. Also balance can be an issue.
As long as people are having fun, i say let them play as they feel... as long as they aren't killing the machine in some way, because that's a bad thing =X _________________

Its called preference, some perfer tech, some perfer FS, some perfer singles, some perfer doubles.
And you say you at least try to have style when you play, as opposed to those "f*cking idiots on crack with legs flying everywhere, arms not moving and their heads fixed in some retarded daze." Well whoop-de-doo. Just how much style do you think you have dancing on a video game anyways? |

Don't forget, this is a game, and as a game, getting a high score will always be high on a lot of gamer's lists. Sure, there are people who try to pull off 99 combos in Tekken 3, but there are far more people who just want a few good moves to win a match.
Same goes with DDR. And, to push my point, simply getting a lot of perfects alone is enough to amaze a lot of people... especially when you're hitting the AAA mark, who cares if you are flapping your arms like a chicken, people would still cheer for you, just because you're "good".
As for the decline of double players, I can explain that, since I still do it regularly. The problem is, Double and PA simply don't mix well... what happens is, it is hard enough to AA a 9 footer in double simply because it requires far more balance and stamina than its single equivilent. Getting perfects/marvelouses is just really out of the picture (oh, I'm sure there are some really good double PAers out there, I'm just saying it IS harder), add that to the extra cost for the game, and you get a lot of people who'd prefer finishing their single AAA list first before moving on to anything else. _________________

Now that preferences were discussed, we can discuss interpretation.

Dance is:
dictionary.com wrote: | A series of motions and steps, usually performed to music. |
According to the dictionary, your contrasts (of dancing and flailing) aren't contrasts. Both are forms of dancing. I believe what you meant to say is that people should dance intriguingly. If this is what you mean, say it that way.

Two quotes directly at battle with eachother. I have another word for you to learn.
Hypocrisy is:

Some of us like a challenge not only that, some people like me want to expect ourselves to do better than what we can normally do. Say maybe AA or AAA stuff than go for a passing grade you know. Pushing yourself to do better and gaining confidence. I play alotta Doubles just to put up a show for a crowd or just for the sake to improve my skills. Not many people can do Doubles which is why I like to play in front of crowds. I like to entertain on Doubles, Singles to me is just for myself and sometimes to impress myself than crowds.

Fast Maniac songs can still look stylish, I can do 7-9 foot songs and look like I'm dancing, believe it or not really hard fast songs make you better at it because then you can get used to Maniac arrow patterns and can dance to Maniac songs, you have to know patterns before you can dance |

I find it too difficult to put on a dance number on a DDR machine. The dance pad is too restrictive of movement so I just play to enhance my skills and be able to be as good as the really good players of my location.
I do put on dance numbers on Para Para Paradise though. |

And what about Bag? I've made it look like a Riverdance type thing on Heavy mode because the steps leave it open for that kind of jumps and everything.
Cowgirl, since my favorite songs are gallop songs, I made cowgirl look like a real Western type dance.
There's always room for style in heavy mode. Ya just gotta look for it. _________________

Hmmm I find that people stay away from FS because they cant dance anyway...I've been working on my technical because there's a tourny and I'm planning to enter the wild card seed there...and hopefully enter the finals as well...we'll see about that...and just the fact that, PA'ing seems easier for most people because they dont have to worry about dancing and stuff like that...because most people cant dance. _________________

Ever think about this? People who play video games are into playing for score and whatnot, while people who like to dance usually just dance in clubs or something and dont restrict themself to a video game? I meen freestyling is fun and all, but if you are gonna be serious about dancing, do the real thing. _________________

Well, there haven't been many FS tournaments I'm able to compete in, so I decided to practice technical. Since there's going to be a PA tournament comming soon that I'll be able to compete in, I've been focusing on PA mainly. Once there's a FS tournament that I'm able to compete in, I'll work on FS. _________________

hey,
i can see where you're coming from. i don't really think it looks fun to play the max songs and i prefer freestyle too but to each their own. people have their preferences, and one of them is to aaa songs. freestyle looks good and i like it more than tech and it is dance dance revolution but being a tech player and getting awesome grades on a super hard song looks good to the public too. after all, these are the people who step on the machine and can't like hit two steps and stay in the middle besides, i could see why people don't like freestyling anyway because the pad is actually kind of restrictive when you think about it. oh well, depends on how you think. _________________

For the record, DDR is a video game...
if you want to be a dancer, why are you constricting yourself to a video game platform? _________________

Then doesnt that contradict the idea of "Dance Dance Revolution"?
If you are creative and can dance at least a little bit you can FS wonderfully _________________

Well yeah, but it is just a game. You can have fun emulating the dance experience, but if you (not you you, but you as in the guy who made this thread) are gonna get all anal about people not "dancing" whne they play it, you gotta realise it's only a game, not everyone plays it because they are a good dancer. _________________

Damn straight. It is a game. I think it is retarded how people almost live like DDR is there only lifeline. This goes with people that live on MMORPGs too. I think that some people need a little more of a life then wake up, play games, eat and sleep. Geez, go look at nature and get a suntan.

Why is that that some people who play DDR, only go for freestyle? Going for the goal of the ultimate handslap or whataever, getting nothing but misses, the feel of dancing and such, all the while looking like fucking idiots on crack with hands flying everywhere, arrows being missed, and their mind set on some retarded routine.

And while they play in their fashion, when I get up to the pads to play I get crowds of people watching, because my AA's are actually remotely interesting to watch when I play. |
