I've seen people use business cards as well as their Initial D ones for the machine just behind our DDR... I've seen pennies, I've seen quarters and huge fake coins with initials ingraved. There was a place that I went to in CA that had an actual numbered coin slot on the screen. _________________

It's not hard to figure out a coin line...
say you go to a machine and 4 coins are up there...you put one up and you go 5th (assuming everyone plays singles) just know how many coins were up there when you put one up and subtract....Don't be afraid to just get up there when its your turn or you might be skipped |

Just a note on coin lines. Some people are amazingly stupid. I get my turn, go on, then take a random loonie. Someone comes up and says, "Hey, that's my loonie!" I'm like, "They're all the same. Why does it matter which one I take?" Then the arguement goes on and on, until I get fed up and just grab another loonie, only to have someone else start the arguement all over again. _________________

Over here we get coin lines that go up to the edge of the monitor its really crowded. So you just go up when you think its your turn. But you have to stand ontop of the pad RIGHT after they get their grade for their last song, then people think "Well then hes next..." so yeah. <.< that probably doesnt help |

the coin that is closest to the edge is the one that goes next. so you place your coin behind the coin that is furthest from the edge _________________

why the hell would you make a "coin line" or "card line"??? It's such me easier to just get a little piece of paper, stick it by the ddr machine, and have people sing up to go next. Saves you from arguments. _________________

Maybe they said "well then he's next" because "he" told the person before him that he's next.
I think it should be in a first come, first serve basis. Just tell the person before you that you're next. So people don't have to block the freakin monitor, putting up coins when someone's playing. |

I've always seen it go the other way. You place your token near the right edge. When it's the leftmost token, it's your turn.
Then some moron messes everything up by putting his token on the other side!
What's the rule with one person letting their friend play with them?
Should they each have a token in the line?
Do they get to play twice if they do? |

Do they get to play twice if they do? | The coin line system breaks down right around here. My buddies and I had, after hours of discussion and bickering argument, came up with an extremely elaborate system that completely regulates how each player positions themselves in the line irregardless of whether they play single/double or versus and whether they have a name/coin up or not.
Of course, zee anarchic Amerikans burned the rule sheet in about 5 1/2 seconds. But I'll post it here again just because posts are basically indestuctable (unless the mods come in...)

1) You MUST use the sign-up sheet for this system to work.
2) Every player who wish to enter the playing queue must write down his/her name below the last entry of the signature line.
2-a) No player's name may appear in the playing queue twice.
3) Upon the end of a game, the player who is on top of the playing queue become the primary player.
3-a) The primary player may choose whether to have a second player accompany him/her to play the game.
3-b) The primary player have priority in selecting side, game mode, and every odd song in a game.
4) When a player is being chosen to accompany the primary player, he/she becomes the secondary player.
5) When the game begins, the names for the primary player AND secondary player are both crossed out and removed from the list.
6) At the end of the game, any participant in the game may sign again on the sheet, with the primary player taking priority in signing.
7) In the case that a player on the top of the queue is absent, his/her name will be called three times and if no audio or physical response is given by that player, the name is removed from the list and rule 3 is repeated.
8) In the case that a player is leaving, he/she does not have the right to give his/her place to another player waiting further down the queue. Instead, the name is simply crossed out as in the manner of rule 7. |

Here we tend to go up and insert a token/coin into the machine...then stand back.
Ruling is unwritten but if it's a light player go ahead and insert the coin...if it's standard or heavy wait until the end of their roun before inserting your coin.
I haven't seen any token fights here...only thing was that at the comp i was at we had 12 tokens (some people put in 2 for a doubles game...like me =D)...and there was one spare at the end...We got oder mixed up, but everyone knew who put in a token anyway so it was all good...

Only problem i've seen with the coin line are the people who don't understand it. I mean, it's ok if you just ask, "Hey, I've been standing here forever, what's it take to get in line?" But there some who just refuse to use it. One time, this girls mother was literally screaming at me and a few other kids because she wasn't getting a turn. I politely told both of them that they needed to place a coin on the machine. The girl understood and did so, but the mother remained stubborn and kept announcing that her daughter was next. Well, apparently, another kid started mouthing back and the mother erupted big time. She then stormed off into the arcade. I thought she was going to get the manager or something, but she never came back. I just wish people would understand that there IS no "line" to form with your bodies in DDR. That's why we use coins. _________________

Yeah that is great and all... but why not save all that random babble and just use a piece of paper? Is it really that hard? Or are people just too attached to putting up a "coin line"? _________________

It really frustrates and annoys me when stupid n00bs (1st timers) around here where I live just cut in front of me and play when my coin is up there. I also hate it when those fools don't know we have a coin line, they act like they can just jump on and play!! I could've cursed them out and sayin it ain't your freakin turn so put your coin up prick! I refuse to play with people I don't know especially noobs if they will only play Beginner (No BG) suxorz. I like being in control and picking the songs that are good IMO and not a n00b pick a song I can't stand or like that may make my ears bleed or don't feel like playing (hint hint: Butterfly). I rather play with people as good as me, people I know maybe regulars/friends, or play by myself on Singles/Doubles. |

Yeah that is great and all... but why not save all that random babble and just use a piece of paper? Is it really that hard? Or are people just too attached to putting up a "coin line"? | Please read the rules again.
It is an extension of the basic sign up sheet idea, with details solving the problem of players signing multiple times, two people signing up and playing versus twice with each other, and other obvious debatable problem about using sign up sheets.
And you are proving my point about people who refuse to read anything longer than 3 lines, and the reason why this rule sheet was burnt within 5 1/2 seconds. _________________

Fortunately, if there is a coin line while I'm playing ddr, usually there aren't more than 3 coins up. |
