I've noticed a few interesting things about original DDR songs (as in non licensed songs done by Konami) that seem like sort of inderect shout outs...

Put Your Faith In Me: this is the most obvious one since it shares some of its lyrics with Pinky Diamond's song from Bust A Move/Groove. Can anyone say for sure which song came first or why this happened? I'm fairly sure Naoki wasn't working for Enix at any point...

Luv Unlimited: The name of Barry White's band was The Love Unlimited Orchestra, but I don't know if this was intentional or not, the two sounds are ENTIRELY different.

System S.F.: This one's also pretty obvious if you listen to Trance. System F is one of the many aliases of Ferry Corsten, this one is a DEFINITE reference as Look To The Sky sounds similar to and and a similar title to Out Of The Blue.

AM-3P: Well, AM stands for Amusement Machines which you probably know if you've been to Konami's website...

End Of The Century: the MC says "presented by the AM division". See above.

Can anyone think of any others?

His name is Sota Fujimori. His initials are SF

Might be just a coincidence

Could be, but it's not. He talks about System F in the DDRMAX manual.

I don't know offhand the specific reason, but a friend of mine noted that a lot of the lyrics for stuff like Brilliant 2U was actually from a program called "Acid Music," by Sonic Foundry. Perhaps both Naoki and whoever was doing stuff at Enix were both using Acid Music and happened upon the same sound pack.

There's an OEM version of Acid Music that comes along with some hardware (sound cards, CD burners, etc.). It doesn't have the large sound library that the retail package apparently has, but it's pretty cool nonetheless. ^^

yeah, I know, reviving an old thread here.... but I thought of some new ones, obvious though they may be.

No. 9: the name of the "artist" behind End of the Century, this comes from the fact that the song makes blatant use of Beethoven's 9th, a.k.a. Ode To Joy.

Kakumei: This is the second extra stage from MAX2, in case you didn't know or can't read Japanese. Kakumei means "revolution", which is fitting because the song is a remake of Chopin's Revolutionary Etude, though I don't think you'd need me to tell you this, it was discussed at great length not too long ago.

D2R: Yeah, this one's VERY obvious. I'm not even gonna say it, for to do so would insult your intelligence.

1998: 1998 was the year that the first Dance Dance Revolution came out. Hard to believe it was only 5 years ago. Feels like 1998 was a whole different lifetime for me... 1998 is also the name of a Trance anthem by Binary Finary, but I'm pretty sure this is just coincidence.

B4U: Okay, I don't quite remember the specifics of this, but I think it went something like this. B4U is sorta supposed to be an updated version of Brilliant 2u. B stands for Brilliant, but the 4 is actually for "4th Mix" since that's the game it showed up on. I think that's how it went anyway

BeForU: The band assembled by Konami during the 5th Mix sweepstakes is named after the song B4U, but that's where the resemblance to the song stops. They have nothing to do with Brilliant 2u.

Burning Heat!: If you didn't already know, this is a remake of a song from Gradius II. It's Gradius II, right?

Twinbee Generation X: Twinbee is a shooter also made by Konami.

Silent Hill: This is Konami being silly. Silent Hill is the name of Konami's acclaimed survival horror game that is scarier than Resident Evil can ever hope to be. Why they chose to make a song by the same name into a Christmas song is beyond me. Maybe Thomas Howard just didn't know any better.

Tsugaru: Tsugaru is the name of the instrument that's being used for the main melody.

Bag: The song is "played" on "Bagpipes", hance "Bag".

Sorry if this was all horribly obvious. I was kinda bored and felt like posting some more of these. And no, I don't mean like in Spy Kids, this isn't the "OMG I SAW DDR!" thread.

Uh, Twin Bee is an RPG. That's where the background comes from.

Twin Bee = Stinger (U.S) = shooter, though there might be an RPG too.

Is it now? That's strange, 'cause I remember Demiforce translating a shooter named Twinbee, and I remember them talking about a series of shooters called Twinbee..... Oh well.

Twinbee is a shooter series. o_O; It's never been an RPG. I have the original Twinbee on a bootleg cart, and it's a vertical shooter. A somewhat strange one (the enemies are mostly fruits, vegetables, and many other things I don't know what to call), but a shooter nonetheless. There was a platform Twinbee game on SNES called Pop'N Twinbee 2: Rainbow Bell Adventure, but there are no Twinbee RPGs that I know of.

Have You Never Been Mellow was originally performed by Olivia Newton John (in the late 70's I think). So I guess the name The Olivia Project is a play on her name.
