I finished my pad finally, like seriously this time though. All the new brackets are in place, foam is is better this time, easier way to fix pad if controller burns out is in place. Wow, I think I got it done! Wait, nope, the controller burned out on me, oh well, its not that hard to fix. |

So I finally took apart my ddrhomepad pad due to frying too many controllers and some spec changes I want to do. Here is my plan.
I am in the process of building a MAME/SM cabinent, so I want to hardwire the dance pads into the I-Pac ( http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html ) unit for my controls. The other day I was digging around at channel beat and found that you can buy the micro switches for like $10 http://www.channelbeat.com/products/parts/dance_dance_revolution_parts/115.html
Here are my questions though.
1. How many switches are in an actual arrow? I think 4 but I'm not positive.
2. The switches look like they have 2 wires (red and black) so I assume I could just wire the red to the right key on the I-Pac and the black to the ground.
3. If there is 4 individual switches per arrow panel, say I step on the side and only activate 1 switch, then move a bit and activate another under the same arrow, do you think it would cause double steps or ghosting?
4. Do all four switches actually trigger the arrow or are some for the lights?
If anyone could answer some of these that would be an awesome help. When I get it all done and IF it all works, I'll post the plans for my pad as well as the whole cabinent. |

At Channel beat you have to spend $200 dollars if you buy anything [unless they changed it around or sumthin]. I used 4 microswitches myself, and mine worked. By the way im gonna make a page at my site, http://omegafreestyler.xs3.com, which i'll post my pictures of my pad. If your making a cabinet use a computer or a console system instead of really buying what's in the arcade. Its MUCH cheaper AND better 'cause you'll be able to change games if you want to. And then use a monitor or tv for display. _________________

you use a different wire for ground. you need ground otherwise your pad controler may get a static electricity problem. and you dont have to ask twice _________________

Hmmm... I didn't see the $200 minimum at channelbeat, that would totally suck. As for the cabinent, I am using a computer. I'm running MAME and Stepmania on it. Nothing better than having 2000 arcade roms and 1000 sm/dwi Songs to play, I'll never get bored. |

Technically it is already copywritten. It was as soon as ddrhomepad finished his pad, he just needs to have proof of his finish date and he can sue them for poopy of m-u-n-e (money) _________________

One of these days I plan on building a MAME cabinet too. Lately I've been playing MAME games way more than DDR. Here's the controller that I recently built to play all those arcade games.

Might have to reload a couple of times to see all the images.
Good luck with the your MAME/SM cabinet and don't forget to post the pics. _________________

Well, I'm gonna make a Pop'n Music controller, actually, but I'm going by the same principal you guys are using for the DDR controllers... I've got the configuration and everything, but I'm still a bit confused about soldering, testing, attaching the wires, and what will trigger a button press. I've checked the site, but I'm still a bit unsure.. Thanks if you can just type me like 5 or 6 sentences on how it works.. Also, if it is possible, I'd like to have lighting in my controller, like on button presses or something. I was curious as to if this was possible, and what kind of materials and equipment and skills I'd need. Thanks ! |

Not bad, although I would HATE the button placement on that controller... check this one out http://www.slikstik.com/quadfeatures.htm The one I'm building is an exact replica of this one, and will be like $350 cheaper since I'm building it myself. With this button config you have your "Street Fighter 6" and the MK3 run thumb button which also doubles for any Neo-Geo game.
Anyhow, I'm still leary on how well the I-Pac will handle a dancing stage, so we'll just have to wait and see. |

The layout does look funny because it was intended it to be a 2-player controller with 6 buttons but I later added buttons so that a few 4-player games could be played. I checked out the Slikstik before I built mine, but because the 3 and 4 players are angled games like 2-player Smash TV would be awkward. Also I wanted a controller that could play Defender and Stargate comfortably with the Reverse thumb button.
Are you adding a trackball and spinner too? I might build another one with a trackball and spinner someday, but I'm not sure which ones I want to buy just yet.
I would be hesitant to connect a dance pad to an Ipac too, if you had controllers frying. I would hate to see you fry an Ipac. _________________
