Ive listened to almost all the DDR megamixes (minus disney and 4th) and I have to say there are some pure crap nonstop mixes and there are some very well done mixes.
The one that come immediately to my mind as hands down the worst megamix is MAX2. The songs seem thrown together. There is hardly any mixing in to the next song and the mixing that they do have is just crap. The announcer does not fit the music at all (they even got him to ruin the perfect silence of maxx unlimited, what were they thinking). The soundtrack was ok for max2 but it could have been handled so much better.
Extreme and 5th mix are probably the best ones I've heard so far. 5th mix starts off very strong and only has a couple of slow points. Its done incredibly well, features a large number of extended portions of songs and the announcer just fits the music so well.
Extreme just barely falls behind. The mix starts off with what feels like a concert (the crowd cheering and the announcer just fits so well). There are only a few really random points where the announcer just doesn't fit music, but they are few and far between. The only reason I dont rank extreme above 5th mix is for this one rather slow section of the nonstop. Starting at L'amour et la libertie and extending to Memories is just extremely boring to me. 5th has some boring songs but they arent grouped together in such a large way.
Both nonstops flow incredibly well from one song to another.
The most memorable is probably 3rd mix. Almost everyone has either heard the soundtrack or seen the AMV. Its just unforgettable. Not the best but definitely deserves to be mentioned. _________________

2nd mix gets my vote. It had some amazing transitions, and all the songs flowed well. If paranoia were just a little bit longer I'd be happier... but that's not the point. The overall megamix was still too good for words. _________________

My favorite is 3rd mix.
And I hate the announcer in all of them... is he really necessary? _________________

6th Mix...some of the song extensions (DYRM especially) are fantastic.
I thought Extreme had the worst, or at least the most boring. They could have done much more with those songs. _________________

YES HE IS NECESSARY!!! God, that was like THE reason I played Konamix "you're like sunshine on a cloudy day!" "oh gawed!". Try playing without the announcer on stepmania, even though each one of them is annoying in some way or another, you will feel like something is missing. I think we all forget about the cheering after every heavy song we A. Without that it feels awkward after finishing the song.
But yes, as far as megamixs go, I think the official konami ones are horrible. I hate how they all start off, just a recording of a guy cycling through the first few songs on the machine. How lame. |

6th was definitely the best. The transitions, extra verses and extended parts of songs was done really well. 5th is probably the next best.
I'll get to hear Extreme's on Saturday, so I'll come back and post here after I hear it. _________________

I don't have the one for Extreme, but out of what I do have 5th mix has my vote... of course it's one of my absolute favorite mixes. _________________

Hmm, I've listened to every Nonstop Megamix and some of Solo and Disney on the days when DDRFREAK played all of them.
I'd have to say my favorite is the 3rd Mix, the only one I have the CD for, the others I downloaded, . Even though most people hate 3rd Mix songs when you go back and listen to them in surround sound or headphones you notice a lot of things you may not have heard before (the bells and techno riffs in Dynamite Rave, and the trance like "qualities" of Gentle Stress. Also I love Vol. 4, Rock Beat, Captain Jack, and Flashdance for their club/rave soundingness) One reason I love DDR songs so much they don't sound like real songs/mainstream songs, they're better, they, for the most part have better melodies and such. Anyway, 2nd Mix has some of the best transitions I've ever heard, Keep on Movin, Put Your Faith In Me, B2U OG, Dub-I-Dub, and and few others I can't think have excellent long versions.
DDR 4th Mix and MAX2 probably have the worst transitions, but the quality of the songs is better, as in better sounding (more futuristic I guess), notice how the background music in B4U and D2R/Dive Into the Night sound much more modern than say Smoke, Boom Boom Dollar, Brilliant 2U, or If You Were Here, a reason why I love the newer songs and their nonstop megamixes even if they weren't very well remixed. Although the Love Again Tonight, Groove, and Higher remixes are pretty cool.
5th Mix is pretty cool, although not many songs I like on it, the exclusives to it don't have much variety, luckily they added the 4th Plus songs, My Generation also sounds good (awesome backbeat), as does Dynamite Rave Long Version.
6th Mix has some OK transitions and it's extensions are really cool.
But I pretty much like all the Nonstop Megamixes.
Edit: Just finished listening to some of my NM's around, the 4th Mix one is pretty good, MAX2 though, yeah it is just sux0rs. EXTREME is OK, not bad, but not best it coulda been _________________

It has to be 6th Mix. I really like the extended parts of WWW.Blonde Girl, Telephone Operator, Bye Bye baby balloon, Ghosts, So Deep and Somewhere Over The Rainbow |

I liked 4th mix. It had interesting transitions. MAX was good too, but i just wish they would make em without the announcers. Dancemania speed best 2001 was like a DDR mix, it has like 25 songs from DDR (remixed or not) and the transitions are sweet. Speed G rocks too. Has more of the current songs. |

I'd go with 3rd mix as the best one. I'm suprised no one's mentioned the Solo 2000 megamix. That one goes up alongside with 3rd mix for me. They actually have a lot of the oni remixes mixed in there. I really dont like the MAX2 and 4th mix megamixes, mainly because it sounds like they tried so hard to include every single song in the game, despite the fact that some songs shouldn't even be in the mix because they're in a totally different genre of music and have a completely different beat.
Here's my nonstop megamix rankings....
1. 3rd mix
2. Solo 2000
3. DDRMAX
4. 5th mix
5. 2nd mix
6. DDR Extreme
7. DDRMAX2
8. 4th mix. _________________

... ...I like MAX 2 nonstop the best...
I like how the songs are not really "transitioned," but they are like "remixed"...i dunno exactly how to explain it, but like, take for example the mix into Sweet Sweet Heart Magic, if you listen, it's not "transitioned" at all, it's more like it has been "remixed," get it??
anyways, 6th mix is also good due to the extentions of WWW.BlondeGirl and also Freckles....and more...
it has the best "transitions"...
But the "non-transition-ishness" in 7th Mix Nonstop makes it seem more ALIVE and COLORFUL and EXCITING! But, the other mixes "transition" and then they jus kinda....ehh........ . . . . . . . .
get it?
My friend Neko Adachi like 6th mix best. I'm surprised she hasn't posted here yet! _________________

My three favorites: DDRMAX, DDR Extreme, DDR 5th. I'd say that DDRMAX's is the best, but Extreme and 5th are too close for me to call. Let's just say I like them both.
I agree though - the Extreme megamix could have been so much better than it ended up being (which is to say, better than 'really good') - oh well. For me, DDRMAX's megamix reigns supreme |

I agree with the MAX1 nonstop mix being the best. I only heard it once over internet radio, and it kicked butt. _________________

So far, I've only heard the 5th, Max, Max2, and Extreme Nonstop MMs, here's how I rank them.
1. Max
2. 5th Mix
3. Exteme
A DISTANT 4. Max2
Max's MM just sounds like what a MM should be to me. As other people have said, extended songs (with extra verses no less!) and flawless transitions make this my favorite. I think the trance section where it goes from Ghosts to So Deep is one of my favorites, along with the Eurobeat section near the beginning (except for Yozora no Muko ) and the end where remixes of Exotic Ethnic, HVAM, and Candy form an explosive combination to finish it off. Other parts are good, too, like after the Eurobeat section you have Cowgirl->Highs Off U->Let's Groove
5th is good, too, with some remixes of songs that are pretty good, like Midnite Blaze for one. Some of the transitions are strange, though, like Enter the Dragon->Odoru Ponpokirin (?!). Extreme... it's decent... It's definitely a few steps up from previous Max2, but I dunno, parts of it just don't feel right. And Max2... blech... the only reason I listen the Max2 Nonstop MM is because Disc 1, the O.S.T. is scratched to the point of unplayability right now. |
