I remember when I first heard about DDR. It was from my brother, and he told me all about it. When I heard about it, I was like, there's no way I'm ever going to be interested in this game. However, when I first saw the game 3 years ago, I decided to give it a try. I was able to clear 2 footers at first. Eventually, I got addicted to it. I'm glad I gave DDR a try 3 years ago. If DDR wasn't part of my life, I don't know where I'd be. _________________

first time? I just saw it in the arcade and decided to try it. i didn't suck that bad.... then i just kept thining about it for some reason, i just felt like playing it all the time all of a sudden. so everytime i went to the arcade, or a ddrfreak's house i played it, and now i'm here, posting on a message board about DDR. i still probably suck compared to most of u guys here, but i play it whenever i get the chance. I wanna get the home version... the best i can do now is six feet..... _________________

I had watched my friends all get into it before me. I had been a spectator for about a month and a half before the obsession hit and I had to get on a pad. I started in the arcade during the day while kids were at school so the mall was empty. I remember being proud of the 4 songs I could pass and every time I tried one that I thought was so hard I thought I was the greatest Now I'm passing up all of my friends that were playing before me and quite a few of the others that play have said to me how much I have gotten better over the past 2 months. _________________

When at that point of not being able to read, my friend and I would sit up all night and play it on controllers to help our reading abilities. _________________

It all started with Beatmania. Coolest game in the world. After that I was obsessed about music games.
Then my wife asked me what I wanted for (last) christmas. I thought about it a little bit and said DDR, not being really sure. Compared to Beatmania where you actually played the song DDR didn't seem so hot. I had seen it in some arcade abroad (no machine in Iceland where I live) and thought it was... yes, that's it, GAY and dared not try it.
After about 30 minutes on my new Naki pad and DDR Ultramix I new I had found a new obsession.
I'm 30 years old, and most of my friends (that have never seen anything like it) think I'm completely crazy, but fudge that, I'm having too much fun! |

When i first started to play I loved the game. Befor I thought it was really dumb and laughed at the players and the people that ghosted them. But after i got good I found myself ghosting, as well. |

I first saw a Max2 in a movie theater about a year ago. My husband and I watched some guy playing what I now estimate to be maybe a 5 foot song. I was *amazed*. I said to husband, "Let's play that!" No way in hell. Husband wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.
Five or six months later. Cruising the mall with my brother on my birthday. We have a half-hour to kill, and we decide to go play in the arcade. He started trying to convince me to give this dance game a try - little did he know I was dying to! Several games later, we were hooked! We agreed to come back soon so that we could play some more. Soon it was a couple times a week.
And the rest was history! Ah, the good old days. When we had no idea what the foot rating meant, how to access the mods menu or change difficulty level. We'd been playing a month before we figured any of *those* out. |

Let's see...the first time I played it, I didn't care for it much, because I sucked at it. You know, classic noob style, standing in the center, watching the arrows pass and hitting them 2 or 3 beats too late. I saw a guy nearly two years ago play at the Spectrum (for SoCal people, they used to have a machine at the Manga House), and he was SO good! Even then, I wasn't really into it though. I saw a 7th mix at a K-Mart Arcade around halloween time (2002), though, and I started to play it. I played it pretty frequently, but I didn't really get addicted until last year. So, at first i didn't like it (not because of the game itself, but more because I couldn't play it), then I thought, "hot damn, that's cool!", and now, I can play it, I love it, and that's that. And a lot of commas. |

Here's my story:
I first heard of DDR on the net. This was back around '99 or 2000. I was heavily into emulation back then, so at one point I was collecting heaps of Gameboy ROMs. One ROM I downloaded was "Dance Dance Revolution", and I had read on the net somewhere that this game was based on some arcade machine popular in Japan.
Since I liked to check the ROMs I downloaded, I played DDR GB for about 20 seconds I didn't think much of it, just that it was yet another cheap gameboy game that should've stayed in Japan - along with its 'engrish' name I figured the GB game must be a poor version of the arcade. Remembering back, I'm sure I saw DDR machines around my city (after my encounter with the ROM), but I never saw anyone using them so I didn't think it was that popular.
Fast forward to 2003 (!!), I took my friend's early-teen daughters to an arcade, and they hassle me to try this dance machine (Extreme). I hesitated for a while, but thought what the heck - I'm sick of caring what people think of me. So I get on and totally fail every song - I didn't know when to step. Once I figured out how to play, I lasted a bit longer, but not much I wasn't completely hooked after that though. We went back and played it again a few weeks later, and that's when I probably got hooked. A few weeks after that, I saw a guy doing Max 300 doubles, and thought "that rocks! I wanna learn this game...". So I got my home pads and StepMania in August 2003 - and there you have it.
If I hadn't started on Beginner, then I doubt I would've had the patience to learn the game. If that Extreme had been a MAX, I don't think I would've kept playing - light mode would've been to hard. And since I never went to arcades anyway, that would've been the end of it.
Now the only reason I go to arcades is DDR

When I first laid eyes on a DDR Machine, I was like most of you. "What the heck?? Dance Dance Revolution?? What's that??" I tried it with a 10 year old boy. We failed.
About a year later, a friend invited me over to her house. She had Max. I gave it a shot. I blew. But I was hooked.
Thanks to another Friend, I now own Konamix (I bought the pad with my own money). I still kinda suck at DDR (I'm a 3-5 footer and am BARELY in Trick/Standard Mode.... Although I can clear Paranoia and La Senorita Virtual....) I would be a little better by now had the down arrow on my pad not decide to quit working... I just hope that I can get a new pad or pads so I can start up again... I needs my DDR~!! _________________

When my sister first came home with DDR Disney Mix, I was like "What the Hell is this." She told me to give it a try so I did. I didn't like it at first but then I got bored and it was just sitting there. So I played it and got adicted. _________________
