I am currently working on my own desing, the good thing about my design is it is dirt cheap to make, it is about 50 to 70$ usd. thats not too bad, i am still working on it but il add an update to this forum when it's done with a link to a page of how to make it.

This is probably the best deal that any of you guys have spent on making pads. You, probably $135, me $1.99. To get most of your wood product check some local construction sites that are making houses. They usually have a trash can thats full with extra wood to use. You may think this is crappy but you can fine so nice wood in there. I bought a pad at EBgames, but this was not online but in a local store. It works better than a using a regular sony controller. It is also SOOO much easier to solder than anything else. I found pegboard at the construction site too! they waste a lot of stuff but you can take it for free. as long as it in a little square thats boarderd with a chainlink fence. Atleast in my neighborhood its "fair game".
Well my pads finished and working [like HEAVEN] and im gonna try to get you guys a pic of it soon.

Another Idea: Simple Bar Placement: ok, stick it into the hole where its suppose to be cut half of the tube right there. No get something that can slid in and out of it with out moving. The good thing is that this will let you remove the bar without hassle.

I wonder if anybody is interested in the plans my friend and I are making. Here's a sample of what they look like.

Hey Everyone,

There is a way that you can save major bucks. My friends went to an arcade near by and smashed the ddr machine and disconnected the pad to steel it. Then my friend Dave brought it to my house where we opened it up and then we saw actually what the pads used for DDR Extreme were made out of.

At www.geocities.com/ddrhomepad/ ddrhomepad explains that you need to spend around 135 dollars making this when you can make it stronger and better for a lot cheaper.

First here are the replacements that ar in the actual pads.

MDF Fiber Board Rails - Regular Plywood
Peg Board - Regular Plywood
Foam Core - Very, very thick sponge (almost like a mouse pad)

But the sensors are ay different. The reason why our homepads eventually break done are because of all the abuse my newbs that break the wires while jumping as hard as they can. Why the arcade pads don't break is because they have micro switches in the arrow panel. Kind of like a door bell, so when you step, you hit this button, which connects the circuit. They use the same idea for the lighting in the pads as shown in the other ddr homepad designs, but one. They all have there own plug in outlet inside each panel for electricity. They are using 100 watt bulbs, 2 in each panel, with a blue/red cover over them to get the glare.

So here is my advice on how you could save so much money by just following these simple instructions.

All you need to purchase is:

- Sheet Metal
- High Density Weather Stripping
- Foam Core
- Plexi Glass or lucite
- Stanel Brackets E1.gif

Thanks

Robbie

Maybe yor friend pick the wrong one...

Well Neil, if I understand your question corrrectly most use weatherstripping... I know I use a type of weatherstripping... its more expensive but tubular... I believe Blue Beefman's design calls for a type of vinyl tubing.

On another note, I would just like to say I've been using aluminum instead of steel for contacts, now yes you can't solder to it, however it has been working fantastically for me, I checked the resistance and there is little to none... if anyone has experience problems with aluminum I would like to hear what the problem is. My pads has been working amazingly for quite sometime now...

On a possible related note, I use very cheap controllers and none have fried yet... I wonder if there's a connection...

Instead of vinyl tubing, I used latex tubing that you can get at home depot or lowes for relatively cheap. It works real well, and the instant there's no pressure on the panel, it springs back up. Which is a good thing for me ;-)

Hey everyone...

I have web space now and I am ready to post up my design. To retrieve the file, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader (available from www.adobe.com) and you will need Win Rar Extractor to de-compress the .rar files (www.winrar.com)

The site is: (posted later)

well, im nearly compleat with my pad, just gotta slotter the controler. one thing i should mention to people looking to wire there pad *im useing riptides*. Dont Try useing some heavy duty electrical wire lying in your gerage. it wont work, my dad realized that the hard way, he is an engeneir that couldnt realize this, so, what we did, was take some normal wire, wrap that around, and then solder that to the heavy duty stuff. when drilling the holes for the push buttons in to your pad, dont be alarmed if it starts to burn alil, its not a problem.
