If you're not sure about your magic chip www.modchip.ca offers to tell you if your chip is legit or not based on a pic you send them.
I've ordered from them before and they're good, just pricey in comparison these days.
Ordered a DMS 3 from easybuy2000.com, so I have no issues at all with them, great chip, much better disc recognition than with the magic chips, it's worth the money for that alone, can't remember how many times I've pushed reset on my magic modded ps2s.
And the more recent magic 3.1 chips are Bright red, first one I got was bluish and totally legit, next one I got later on was Bright red, also from modchip.ca |

|
|
Hey everybody, I was wondering what PSX boot disc(s) is/are best for playing original PSX imports and backups on a PS2 with the flip-top cover. Are there any boot discs I can use that wouldn't require me to enter any unlock codes like with PSXchange or something, or would I have to enter those regardless? |

Isaru-
PSX-Tech is a very reliable site. They have modded my PS2 and my Xbox, and they did an excellent job.
The Messiah 2 is not worth the extra money. It's not too different from the Magic 3.1.
None of the PS2 chips on PSX-Tech require disc swapping. |

I heard that there is a swap trick, but it requires Spider Man-like reflexes. If you have a PSX, I heard the Multimode 3 stealth chips support swaps for import multidisk games. If you have a PS2 with either a Magic 3.1 or Messiah 2, Precision Mods is working on a clip that adds PSX stealth capabilities. I cant wait for it. _________________

So I've finally decided to do it...
I was planning on waiting for the US release of DDRMAX2, but now with the announcement that DDR Extreme is coming out in just 3 short months, and with the realization that the US version of MAX2 might be lacking my favorite songs (much like the US version of MAX did...So Deep ), I've decided to take the plunge and send in my PS2 to get a Magic 3.1 chip installed at PSX-Tech.
Mmm...in just a few weeks, I'll have my PS2 back to me, professionally modded, and by then, my import copies of MAX and MAX2 should be here, with Extreme to look forward to in the fall
WOOT!!!
/begins pouring over JP-MAX2 and Extreme info religiously |

I know this is in a DDR related forum (DDR Console games), but are there any special requirements to run Beatmania: Dreams Come True for psx? I figure you would probably need an anti-mod code to be able to run it, just like all the other psx Bemani games. If it makes any difference, I am running on a PS2 with a fliptop cover (using a Gameshark Lite as my boot disc), and I had to use slightly different codes for DDR games than what I used on my psx with a PS X-Change. Would there be anyone that has the code, or know where I could find it? Thanks |

Actually, before I make the final decision, I'd like some opinions. I'm deciding now between sending in my PS2 to PSX-Tech to get a Magic 3.1 installed, or just ordering a flip-top cover and putting that on my PS2. Which is better? Are there any problems with either? I've heard a few horror stories in this thread from people with the flip-top cover, but it looks like most of them were resolved. I just want to pick an option that will WORK, and work with almost all games, and not damage my discs or system
And yes, I know of the inherent risk to my system of doing the flip-top thing, but I want to know if you guys think it's worth it, or if it's pretty easy/simple to do. I've seen the how-to for it, but someone posted earlier here about how it didn't "line up" right for him. Anybody else have that problem?
Just trying to decide between those two options. |

I got my ps2 modded from psx-tech.com
took 1 week from the day i sent it to get it back, and i'm on the east coast.
i got the messiah 2 pro and it works perfectly...no problem with imports, backups, ps1, ps2, dvd movies etc.....I would highly reccomend them.

Anybody ordered from PS2Case.com? They look reputable, air shipping is is pretty cheap, and they have a flip-top/Swap Magic combo pack for only $35 (they even have three different colors of flip-tops for you to choose from).
I think I'll order through them unless anybody has any horror stories or anything. |

I haven't heard any horror stories about those dealers, but have about the flip top....For one, its not compatible with all backups...and 2, if you are installing it yourself, it can be real tricky when you take the original top off and the buttons and ribbon are exposed.....Plus the hassel of swapping all the time, i would reccomend going for a mod chip....
And a few posts up someone mentioned there was no reason to get a messiah 2 pro over the magic 3.1
I believe the messiah 2 pro has better online capibilities when it comes to back ups, and can be put into stealth for originals, and also suppots things such as code breaker etc.....Not sure if magic 3.1 can do stealth and codebreaker...? Anyone?

I have no interest in playing backups whatsoever. I just want to play import originals. I'd still like to go the flip-top route, though, if most people think it's OK, because it'd save me more than $50 over sending my PS2 into PSX-Tech. |

If you want to play 5th mix without having to enter in gameshark codes you will need to patch. I've listed where to get patches on the first page. _________________

Ok, I'm going to get a Flip-Top lid or whatever it is, but I need to know a couple of things better on it...
1. Will it run imports of bemani?:
Like, DDRMAX, MAX2, Pop'n Music 8, and maybe Guitadora? Will it run the backups? I don't neccisarily care but it would be nice to back it up and re-sell it!
2. Is there any reliable vendors of it?:
Is the vendor listed in the guide on the first page reliable?
Thanks! _________________
