First, if this turns into a "PIU SUCKS DDR RULZ DDR IS THE ORIGINAL NO PIU IS THE ORIGNAL PIU IS A COPY" post, this will get locked and points will get handed out. I will not tolerate a DDR vs PIU flamewar. Kthx.
One thing that's nice about PIU is that it always has been geared toward both freestyling and PA. Many songs are very dancable and the arrow placement makes is possible to make a nice routine.
DDR used to be good for FSing, but now it's most definitely geared toward PA. Look at nearly every new song from MAX onward. They are almost all designed for the PAer. They simply are too fast or too inappropriate for any decent routine. Sure someone could throw together a routine, but c'mon. Someone could create a FS routine to a Celine Dion song if they really wanted to. That doesn't mean it'd make any sense or would be any good.
Despite how much I hate 90% of the songs in the newest PIU, if I was a FSer, I could certainly throw together some decent looking routines to nearly every song on there -- except for the really fast ones, which are purposefully designed to be too difficult to freestyle on anyway. |

Freestyle-wise, I'm sure that PIU is much better than DDR, as it has more songs that you can actually dance to. It's just that most of the people who do freestyle on the game are just trying to do crappy breakdance moves while hanging for dear life on the bars. I mean, at least Jason Ho actually looked like he was dancing(minus the stupid bar flares to the Andamiro screen), unlike those crappy videos above where they looked like they were trying to find their contact lens while swinging their legs around. It all seems like dated A-Team stuff that focus way too much on "tricks". _________________

That's your opinion. Not everyone likes the songs selected on DDR. I'm not backing up PIU, I'm simply saying your 3 "reasons" are just opinion based. #2 isn't really an opinion, but DDR has been around longer so naturally it has more mixes.
I'd like to point out that BeethovensVirus has not posted a counter argument since his first post. I see there aren't many PIU supporters as he thinks there are . _________________

That's because he's posting on a DDR board! That's like going to a vegan convention, and pointing that few people support eating meat. Also, nowhere does he say that he thinks there are a lot of Pump supporters out there.
It's kind of funny, looking over the replies for this topic. For the people who give any support of Pump, you see generally civil replies that try to consider both sides of the argument. For the most part, I'm looking at the people who fully support DDR, and I'm just seeing a couple of, "PIU SUX, ITS AN IMITATION. PUMP IS GHEY!"
Not trying to say anything, I'm just making a little observation |

pump it up was made more for freestyle that ddr. i mean DDR is my first choice anytime whether it be PA or FS. But Pump has more downtempo freestyle songs. Especially the song on PIU "We Are". That is like my fav song on that mix. In fact thats a perfect example of a song on Pump that was made for freestyle. |

when i went to this thread, i thought oh my god, these people typed up alot. so i skipped to this page and apparently a flame war has erupted.
well, i dont hate piu nor do i love it. its not too bad of a game. i actually have wanted to play it for about 2 weeks but its a dollar a play. dont get me wrong, i still love ddr but i need another taste of 5 buttons to fool around with.
btw, when i read the topic, the first thing that came to mind was beethoven virus. |

Pump It Up is a very fun game, and ppl can't just criticize it because they think it is a rip-off. It may be, and it may not be, but it's fun ANYWAYS>
As someone mentioned above, PIU has many differences from DDR.
This should be considered when debating over FS for each.
DDR maybe reaches out to a different crowd than PIU does, the buttons are of course different, the steps are of course different, the people are of course different, and the songs are of course different.
There is no need to make this into what ppl have mentioned already.
Finally: They both are good games, why bother choosing just one? That's like choosing between Minute Made Orange Soda, and Mountain Dew. If they both taste good, then why choose just one? _________________
