I think that you should add a gender option (yes, it's possible, my forum has it) so that people will stop calling girls a guy and vice versa.

I think that's a really good idea. I say put it in the profile with Interests and Occupation. It's really only something we need to read once. |

I've got a pic right here that might explain what I mean:
See the symbol below this guy's avatar?

People are too dumb to reconize a symbol. Use text. |

Since the first day that I saw Tyzza post on these forums, I thought he was a girl.
I found out today I was wrong _________________

Some people can be misleading with their avatars and sigs and even usernames.
I always thought Fighting Hydrant was a guy until she had "yes, I am a girl, deal with it" in her sig |

Well with Hydrant I knew she was a girl cos she's always talking about girl on girl but anyways... don't think this feature would make a big different to the site. _________________

No, and I'll give you the best reason ever.
On the internet, many females go for a neutral username... reason being, they will get clobbered with PMs, IMs, emails, etc. if certain people know they are female. Call it male hormones, who knows. There's a reason why I went by Drkness for 6 or 7 years.
Yes, it's a different world on the internet now than previously and this isn't as much of a problem now, but the problem still exists. _________________

Nono, Freak. It's "18/f/cali"
Anyway, bad idea. If you really want to know someone's gender, then just PM them. Then again, 50% of the people lie about their gender on the 'net anyway, so don't expect the answer to be the truth. _________________

I guess my nick is kinda neutral. Actually, a search on ICQ reveals that more people under "TooNice" are female
But yea, I know what IguanaGrrl mean though. There was a particular chatroom I'd hang around frequently a couple years back (4-5.. wow its been a while). Whenever a female user logged on, they'd get.. Lets say a rather large amount of attention.
That said, I don't think the girls really minded the attention (they weren't exactly offensive or anything usually).
Personally, I thought it was kinda funny, and did a couple of pranks involving creating some female aliases (no, not this one) and messing with a couple of people
(Yes it was evil, yes I was very bored, but it was hilarious as well
And I must've been fairly convincing or something as everyone believed it.. Male/Female alike ) |

Iguana, the same thing can happen when someone posts in the "What do you look like" thread. I think there, however people are more likely to get pm's and whatnot because now people not only know what sex they are, but now they know if they are hot/morbidly obese. I'm not saying that that particular thread should be locked, but the fact is that the vast majority of usernames on this forum are neutral, and unless stated, I usually think everyone here is a guy. From looking at it this way, I can only see benifits. If you don't want people to harass you, then you just leave the form for it undisclosed. I think it would just clear things up.
The only thing that I am currently agianst on this forum is the meaningless text in the location tag. I don't mean to be agains anyone in particuar, but I usually check to see if I might know the person or have seen them at a tournament. I have no idea how you would govern a thing such as that, but its just my opinion.
I vote go for the gender addition. _________________

Well, I found out that there is a feature for this, taken from ukairsoft.com:
It is for vBulletin, but there probably is another version floating around out there for phpBB
Ability to Auto-Locate Users - Some of our users have said that the Location field is used for comedy lines instead of proper location information. With the extension to the profile viewer at www.ukairsoft.net, we will list which country the user is in, and in some cases which county/town. This will be done automatically and should help resolve the "Where is he?" problem.
So, could someone please respond on this. It's just one suggestion to help clean the forums up _________________
