Correction.

The pads were just not that great on most of the machines, period.

The "awesome" machine that people thought was the best one, was giving me a few goods and misses on EASY parts of Paranoia Dirty. In general, the machines just aren't well kept, you kinda had to step hard (which is my problem, since I have a tendency not to on quick songs).

But yeah, if it weren't for Praster keeping the crowd alive, the whole thing would have sucked. Mucho props.

And no, there were no cameramen, tv crews, or anything of the like there.
Unless your local newspaper/radio/tv station decides on their own to do their own thing, your milage may vary.

(On a sidenote, one of the finalists was kinda a jack@$$ when our friend was fooling around on the side, doing some breakdancing moves just for kicks (since everyone was waiting forever and a half for the round to start), made a comment "too bad he can't do that on the game!" Kinda makes you wonder about players these days)

KristenWo Mentioned You Have To Be Over 13 To Play On The Machines, And If You're Under 18 You Need Parental Consent, But, Do You Absolutely Have To Be Over 18 To Participate In The Tourny?

One more question. Do you have to be from whichever state the tour stops at to beable to win? Or can anyone from any state just show up and compete against the locals from that state?

You must be 18 to enter, they will ask for ID. No ifs, ands, or buts. No parental consent, nothing. If you are not 18, you cannot enter.

But otherwise, any age can play on the machines before, inbetween rounds, and after the tourney.

And I don't think they care if you're from out-of-town or out-of-state. They just had you fill out a form, check ID, then gave you a number. Nothing about disallowing other states or what-not.

yeah anyways, today was pretty bad but somehow it turned out okie. there was a huge flaw in the way abc family planned the tournament so for now on, every other tournament will be under mine supervision.

Few Changes:

There will be no replacement song for the finals rounds. All final rounds will consist of ddr songs only. Format of the tournament is subject to change due to the amount of people entering the tournament.

There will be improv freestyle exhibition during breaks of the competition if you wish. You will not win anything but you will get a lot of attention.

Technically there will be a second place prizes, but it will be small.

Chicago is still an awesome scene. Off to indianapolis, indiana tomorrow for thursday's event.

P.S. - This job is not as easy as most of you think.

Eh. Looks neat. I guess Dance Fever is going to be like American Idol for dancers then? Okay. ABC is probably just hosting the DDR 4th Solo east coast tour just to get a little attention. DDRing does count as dancing, I guess, but the movements aren't as attractive as anything I'd expect to see on the real show. Technical DDR ( for score ) is played like golf. Exactly like golf.

Somebody sell me on this. Why should someone drive an hour to a mall to watch/play on these machines and MAYBE see a bored celebrity?

That answer is easy!

To try to win a trip to Vegas! E15.gif

That's not happening. There are people in just my area who are a tough act to follow even if all they were doing was playing technical. I can only imagine what a region-wide tourney would bring in. erm.gif

Keep putting up reports, folks, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's still just considering going.

Thanks for the detailed reports and the pictures. They definitely help E1.gif

*giggles at the 'Dance Fever' machines* I wonder if they even bothered to get Konami's permission.

*big mad face* AHEM! If you would actually have read the thread, or at least Praster's posts, you would know that Konami gave them permission to do whatever they want with these machines.

Now you announce freestyle during the breaks? I can't FS, but I would have loved to see some other people do it "in the spotlight." Eh, at least Chicago was first.

I've chilled with NA Rush for a few. He's a good guy. Check out his pron backgrounds though, hehe.

I plan on going to the Great Lakes Crossing here in Michigan next Friday. Someone will have a camera to take pics too.

BakaOrochi, I thought you played harder on the pads when I saw you play? Perhaps I was mistaken.

Aren't the sensors for SOLO's in the middle of the buttons and not on all four edges though? Maybe that's why some of us suck. We tend to hit on the edges.

I know me 'n several others will try to make it to the Birmingham one. 4th Solo, eh? Oh, Caaaasssss!!

At least they're not doing the 'song dubbing' deal for the final; that's utterly retarded, and you know they wouldn't get a song with the right BPM, let alone start it at the right time.

*glares at Solo pads* Let the STOMPing begin....

Sad thing is, I DO remember the old TV show. I just had to think hard, and bang! I had that cheesy theme song running through my mind again.

I'm starting to think this wouldn't be as dorky as it seemed.

Normally, I step a little hard (but not as hard as a lot of ppl I know). But on faster songs, my foot tends to tap the arrow. On normal 4-panels, which decently-kept pads, this works well for me. But either because of the pads' conditions, or the way Solo pads are built (I believe they're built differently; Solo Bass pads seem to require a little more force to activate the sensor back in the day, and Solo 2000/4th/4th+ pads are simply Solo Bass pads mounted in a harness of sorts), I just sucked at it.

My other excuse is that my left foot has been majorly effed up since the last time I was in SeMI (I guess I screwed up the ball of my foot, and it's been sore since).

Oh yeah, one other note, people bar raped FREAKING 1-FOOTERS. WTF IS UP WITH THAT?!?!? The traction on the pads were perfectly fine. Maybe on songs like 8 or 9 footers, but...Xanadu Basic??? Or some of the other 2-3 footers?

TO answer questions:

No, the tourney isn't on 6-panel mode. Only 4-Panel.

Yes, ABC Family got the OK from KOA to mess with the machines. If you just look at the machine, it doesn't mention Konami or DDR anywhere. It looks like ACB Family made the machine. Even the bar is a custom job. They took out the 4th Mix marquee, and have a Dance Fever one. The only way you'd know it's DDR is because it says it on the Start screen....that's it.

More on the main panel...... Yes...all 6 (or at least the ones that are "working") machines are linked together with one magical box, that Praster picks everything for you with. The song, the difficulty....then starts them all together. Plus, they have this nice little LCD thing that lists the scores of the winners..... I think the only thing that would make that setup cooler is if there was a way so that with that LCD screen, you could have the scores of everyone that's playing at that moment, and have "live results" of what's going on, instead of looking at each machine.

But yeah......when you get up there, it's like a total mind trip. You have your back's to people, so you can't see what the guy's playing behind you are doing.......you can only see to the side. In the round I lost on, I had totally killed the guy next to me, so I started feeling good.....but then I turn around and see that this other guy got 1 great, and I was kinda upset because I had no clue how he did. It's real nerveracking. Plus all the added stress of being up there and having everyone watching and them also not know what's going on..... But in the same respect.....it's cool like that. =)

Praster: You better be at the wrap party. You, me, and Andrew gonna have some fun in Vegas baby!!!

PS: The Vegas trip is August 23-25, for those that asked. (the same weekend as Anime Iowa.......D'OH!!!) Looks like I have to cancel my AI reservation now.......or at least transfer it to someone else's name....

They did. When we are set up in the mall we can't say ddr or risk a big liability with being sewed.

*nod* I remember all of the hassle they went through for the CBS news thing, so I can imagine that they were pretty specific when it came down to where the lines were drawn.
