jesus christ, calm down. if you look at the frick rules, you'll see that these big name stars are going to be judging. what will they be judging? the same things you would judge at a freestyle tournament. i found the main page for dance fever, etc, and thats where i got all this info.
it looks as if they want you to hit all the arrows, but actually dance while doing it. i feel like i'm taking crazy pills. _________________

i know you're not trying to start something.
read the rules page...
http://www.discostepbystep.com/dancefever1.htm
look under the 'Series Description' or 'Celebrity Judging Panel' links...
The contestants can perform any dance genre or style, and will be judged on originality, versatility and overall technique. To encourage non-repetition of routines, competitors will be required to change music and wardrobe for each of the competition's phases. The updated version will expand upon the musical format of the original to include modern types of danceable pop music.

Zeus. You're not reading correctly. That's for the actual TV show. We're talking about the Dance Fever Mall Tour. Slide your eyes over to the right a little bit. You'll see where it says Mall Tour. That is the DDR tournament. You're looking at the rules for the TV show.
http://abcfamily.go.com/dancefever/tour/ - this is the website for the ddr tourny, not the show.

Okay. Now I have a different kind of question.
-Can you go to the mall tours just to DANCE if you are under age 18(like popping or locking, or breakdancing)?
(seems that way to me)
and...
Ahh..I see. nvm. The dates are on the location too. |

Am I the only one that thinks this is a crappy idea for a TV show? Sure I like DDR but is the general public going to care about how many perfects someone can get on a video game? A Freestyle competition would be a little more interesting but I just can't see this show becoming a big hit among the general audience. When I saw a commercial for Dance Fever I thought it meant "real" dancing. Needless to say, I'll still be at the Columbus competiton at least to watch.
Next are we going to see GoldenTee competitions on ESPN? _________________

Sure, you can go to your mall and dance any time you want. You can dance on the DDR machine any time you want from 12-4 as long as it's your turn. You can come to my birthday party and dance if you want too, BTW. You could go in the bathroom and dance.
Isn't America a great country? |

Allow me to make one of those posts that has really big letters that no one pays attention to.
The TV show has nothing to do with DDR. It is "real" dancing. This is a promotional tour to get people interested in the show. There will be DDR on the promotional tour. There will not be DDR on the show. |

We need to have one of those big/bold font posts every couple of posts so that people will finally get the message.
Even though noone will read this here is a quick summary to clear things up
- The Mall tour is only to promote the show, it will not actually be on the show, so-
- You will not be on TV
- The show is about dancing and as we all know DDR is not (but ABC doesn't know that )
- There is no freestyle, real dancing is only for the real show
- Anyone else who continues to make stupid comments because they're (a)stupid or (b)too lazy to read the previous posts explaining everything gets
- *femaledog*slapped stupid language filter

Why is there so much drama about this?
Thanks for posting about the updated info. The location near me changed their date to a Thursday afternoon. 18+ ppl will be at work or in school. I don't get the rationale of holding it then. Hmmm I must beg for the day off... but I don't see it happening. _________________

Humm.... I get Wednesdays off from work, but I've got to wonder if it's worth driving clear out to Mentor (Cleveland market) to see this. I already know I'm merely OK at DDR (I've only beaten two catas and Matsuri Japan tires me out), so winning the grand prize is out of the question.
Somebody sell me on this. Why should someone drive an hour to a mall to watch/play on these machines and MAYBE see a bored celebrity? |

OK....I just got home from the Chicago one, and now, for everyone to enjoy......here's the BASIC format....
1PM: I got there. All the machines were set on freeplay. You have to be over 13 to play on the machine, and have parental consent if you're under 18. EVERYONE has to sign a waiver saying if you get injured or whatever, ABC Family is not at fault. Standard issue stuff. And they actually check and make sure you've signed up if you just try to play.
3:30: They start registration. Again.....sign forms. Fun fun fun. They give you a number. That's your number. Easy enough.
4: Tourney starts, run by Praster, and the guy that looks like a yound Diamond Dallas Page. (once you see him, you'll see what I mean) They call people up 4 or 5 at a time (depends on how many people sign up) and they all play the same song. Out of the guys playing, whoever gets the highest SCORE moves on to the semifinals. If you don't win, tough shi.t....you're done. (as was the case with me.....by 2 perfects on 1234007 basic) Then they pick another group of 4 or 5 or whatever to play a DIFFERENT easy song.
They go until everyone's done.
Those that made it to the next round have to hang around til later that night.
When they're done with everyone, they go back to the freeplay format, where everyone gets to play.
The next round starts at 8PM.....
At about 7:30 though, they got everyone off the machines, and had the people that showed up really late qualify, with the same rules as above.
Everything until this point is like 1-3 feet. Nothing hard at all.
Now starts the semi's at 8. What they did here is they had 8 semifinalists. They split them 4 and 4. The 4 played a hard maniac song (gentle stress), and the winner moved to the Finals. Then the other 4 played (paranoia dirty), and the winner moved.
The finals were just two people.
They scrapped the dubbed song......thank god.
Instead, the final was Ninaburo (or Fuhatarah's Theme, for those that don't know) on Maniac. The winner won the trip.
BTW: The winner in Chicago was Mortalburn.
Overall, Praster did a VERY good job running this, with what very little ABC gave him to deal with. We had a lot of fun, all thanks to him.
Machine quality: One machine just flat out doesn't work. One machine's screen starts getting jumpy every now and then. One machine's arrows seemed to not work a couple times. But the other 3 machines are fine.
No celebrities, no cameras. Just people showing up and having a good time, at ABC's expense. That's it.
Again....if you lose, you're SOL. I learned that the hard way. (and no amount of butt-kissing, or pleading changed that) But that's OK because as it stands.....I'm Mortalburn's guest to Vegas. =))) |

Kris did a good job of summarizing it, but he missed 2 major points, and didn't emphasize one of them enough. This point:
MC HAMMER WASN'T THERE!!!!'
Other two points:
-The reason you really want to go is to see Praster's dancing. That was the best part. Oh my God, he should go on Dance Fever or something... He was standing up there while non-DDR music was playing, and... yeah, just go to one of these events. Do it. KrisnWo's screaming girlyness made it even better...
-The machines all had cords running to this master control box that Praster ran to sync the machines for the tournament. It was brilliant. Pure brilliance.
If you were pissed off at the guy in the orange shirt, that would have been me. :-X
You guys don't really know me, but thanks for being entertaining, and thanks to Praster for keeping ABC from ruining this. Oh, and rock on for NArush and his mouth. That mouth is such a talkative mouth!

Wow. I didn't realize there was already one tourney done. I clicked the Atlanta location since it was closest to me, and the date said August. Thankfully, one's already done, so there can be a summary post and end all the doubts and concerns. I was about to lose my mind at the arguing.
Those are nice pictures. Unfortunately with me getting ready for college, I won't be able to make any tournment from my isolated location (not as isolated as West Coasters, I'm sure). I don't think I have the strength to finish any Paranoia on Heavy, though, but that all depends on my competition. _________________

Ok it looked like alot of fun but is the tournament on
solo(6 panels) or regular(4 panels)? I read the other posts a few days ago and really don't feel like going through them again.
Oh and for that last little message on the black list taped on the machine...I don't plan on watching this show. I'm sure that there's a WWE PPV or something better to do than that other than watching Dance Fever.
Does anyone know when this Vegas Party will happen? Sometime in August??? _________________
