Hello, I would like to built Paster's metal pad but have no idea where to even start! Has anyone tried to build it and is there written instructions anywhere? Any info would help, thanks. |

Thanks a lot Tyris. I have tried some other shops but have given up. B&Q is no where near where i live. I'm going to fabricate my own.
Not to be complacent, but i am a little experienced in DIY fabrications such as this, so hopefully won't have too much trouble. I just was wandering about those MDF strips because i wouldn't have designed it like that. I'm going to use a large sheet of plywood as my base and screw everything into that.
I think I probably will do that with the weather stripping too. Are the gaps necessary for the buttons to let the air out too?
One more thing, sorry. I have decided to make two pads, and my costs for all materials has cost about 120 pounds. Not bad i thought. Will post pictures when i'm finished!!
Also, I heard about some sort of layout of the controller for soldering. I'm going to use the control base plastic bit from a broken old soft-mat. Does anyone know if there is a diagram schematic or something?
Thanks in advance again. And cheers again tyris. _________________

It is a sad time in my life, but I need to get rid of some of my DDR stuff.
This is being posted here, because I don't think people in the marketplace know what Ter Ter boxes are.
So, yes, to get right down to it, I am selling my two Ter Ter boxes. They both work (built and tested by me), and are brand new. Used in their construction were high quality SONY brand controllers, so you won't have problems with cheap connections breaking on you.
The materials for each box ran me nearly $50, so that is what I am charging for each.
I would like to sell them as a pair, but will take individual offers as well.
To find out about the other things I'm getting rid of... check the marketplace.
This is a sad day in my life. *sniff* _________________

And just so there's no confusion they are located in Connecticut, I live in Calgary, Alberta so you shouldn't be paying more than I did if you live in the states I would imagine.
Items I needed and will be using for pad #2 of the project: The lexan of course 1/8" thick, 11" x 11" squares, 5 pieces of 26 gauge sheet metal from Home Depot got 3 pieces out of each they were 3' x 1.5' roughly, 3M spray adhesive, 4' pack of velcro, 33 & 1/4" x 33 & 1/4" MDF board (if you only want 9 squares, mine is slightly longer, but still that width). Screws are optional, got 1/2" screws going through my poorly stuck sheet metal on this prototype board, got 5/8" handy for when I screw down my buttons after I'm sure I'm done. Also printed 10" x 10" buttons I found on this forum. 1 male serial port, 1 female serial port, some 30 awg kynar wiring that I had around anyways, 1 project enclosure box, 1 used ps POS gamepad, 1 m/f serial cable. Oh ya, and 1 3' x 3' piece of 1/8" spacer board stuff. |
Where did you get that price for the Lexan on this site? All I can find is 12"x12" at something like $25 per SHEET.... unless I'm reading it wrong.... |
https://secure1.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=plastiweb&BusType=BtoC&Count1=723156154&Count2=640296578
That was the specific item that I ordered for pad #1, if you live in the us then you won't have any annoying customs fees and it shouldn't be much more expensive than finding it locally. |

I should have checked that link first, guess it doesn't work that way.. you'll find it if you follow the link then put 'lexan' in the search box, it's one of the first items that shows up for $3.99 per 12" x 12" piece. |

That's for .118" pieces; I was pretty sure I was looking for .22" stuff - am I wrong on that?
I thought 1/4 per piece for 1/2 total.... |

just a few questions. after 6 hours, finally got the frame done and a bottom of the arrow with weatherstripping and such.
just a verification,
all the ground cables from the arrows gets tied into one wire which gets solders into the ground solderpoint on the controller right?
and,
following DDRHOMEPAD's design, where do you place the controller??? _________________

Part 1: Exactly. I used a wire nut to tie all five wires (four arrow grounds and the ground from the controller) together. That wire nut lives under my center section.
As for the controller, I had used a Cat-5 wire for the controller-pad connection, and it's about 5 feet long, so that means that the controller can go anywhere I won't step on it, within 5 feet. I tend to play near my coffee table, so the controller usually sits there. Which is nice, because I don't have to bend that far over to hit X to confirm song selection, etc. (I'm 29, and the less work I have to do, the better!) _________________

I feel utteryl ridiculous. I went bought almost all the materials to do this. My dad and I started working on this today. We got the wood cut and after much work the sheet metal wrapped around. But the brackets will not lie flat because my dad cut the wood bad apparently, so now I am out like 12 hours of working onit and collecting parts for it + money I spent on it.
Im just gonna buy a prebuilt one, save me the time. |

.118" or 1/8" thick is what I used for my pad, being so incredibly thin, having it flex like mad repeatedly and still having it return to its original shape quickly is the reason for purchasing 'lexan' for this type of project. |

ok, i finished making the pad, all the arrows works fine except the right one. it sometimes work and sometimes doens't, i added and remove weather stripping and tested teh wires, it works when i touch the ground and the right wire, but when connected to teh pannels, there seems to be some dead spots. _________________

Well $*&#$! (explicative with-held)
I fried my gamestop controller while in the middle of making my second pad. But unlucky me, I can't buy that particular controller anymore. I wound up finding a cheap 5 dollar mad katz controller at wal-mart, but now I can't seem to find any soldering diagrams on the internet. Any help from an older, wiser pad creator than I am would be much appreciated by this extremely frustrated DDR lover. _________________

Hmmmmmmmmmm......
I just got done watching the Riptide instructional movie series thingy. I have questions!
It shows him wiring the down arrow by wrapping a yellow and white wire around alternating screws before guiding them to the section where the controller will be.
1. Why does he use two wires?
2. Where do both wires go? I know one of them has to go to the down arrow, but what about the second one.
And that's all for me! |

two wires are used, because when they touch, it makes the arrow register, hence the PCB recognizes it.
on a controller, i think the other wire goes to teh coressponding ground solderpoint. i just use electrical tape and tape onto an old pad's PCB cuz i suck at soldering/ _________________

1. Riptide didnt want to have a wire glued on the acrylic itself so he did a system with the 2 wire in the bottom of the arrow
2. it go where the controller is placed. 1 wire on DOWN and 1 wire on GROUND so the it make a circuit when the arrow is press
sry for repeating a bit the other post but Im jsut explaining a bit more _________________
