Gee, thanks.
On a sidenote, though, I find myself in better shape now than I was when I was a teenager or when I was even in my early 20s (I used to be heavy (a hair above 100 kg)). I have to accredit Karate as well as DDR and walking everywhere, though. |

Heh, I was playing last night at the Funsville and there was these grandparents there with their two grandchildren. The grandfather paid for 2 games on the Extreme (2 dollars!) and let the kids try it. After one song on beginner, they declared the game to be too hard and got off. So, grandma and grandpa got up and tried it. Grandma gave up after 30 seconds, but grandpa actually passed with like an A! He must have been 55 or so.
Anyway, he said that he would "feel this in the morning". Heh, I got up there with him and tried LoM on Heavy. Oops...he gave up, and I failed. Oh well. I nice experience regardless. _________________

I don't think DDR should have a age limit, anyone can play the game and some people may be better than others. No guarantees you'll be good! |

You truly have a point there, because after all, not all kids are not immature assholes....I mean that has nothing to do with age. If anything they learned in from their parents. _________________

I'm 29 and I play about 4-5 times a week.
I started playing DDR for exercise. I first played the game on a trip to Vegas and found that it made me sweat. I thought, hell, this is a lot more fun than running. I imported the games as nothing was out here yet and started playing instead of running. When I play I play for about 2 hours straight on trick and maniac and burn the calories. I think if you are in shape there is no age limit. My mom was a serious runner until she was about 54 and I think DDR is less hard on the joints. _________________

Like I've always said, people think that I'm WAY TOO OLD TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES, especially MUSIC VIDEO GAMES. I've been playing DDR since April 1999, back in the days of Cyberzone Arcade in Koreatown. Now I play only on weekends & days off. Is that a trip or what? Please reply, over! Thanks!

Joking or not, one day you too will get "old" and will be dissed by young peeps.
Your teen years will be over before you know it.
I'll be turning 30 next month. I think I will tire of DDR before my body forbids me to play it.
For the record, I can do some Doubles Heavy catas. | Heh I'm already being dissed...doesn't bother me at all _________________

Wow, I'm glad I stumbled on this thread. I'm 53 and I play DDR.
I played for the first time back in November, just before my 53rd birthday, and almost immediately went out and bought Playstation2 just for DDR. Turns out, I injured my left heel (probably a stress fracture), and had to take 4-5 weeks off, but I healed up very quickly. So, at this point, I'm now just beginning my 3rd real month of serious DDR play.
I know I'll never be quite as good as the younger kids, but I'm gonna be as good as I can be. The younger players have my utmost respect, and I do everything I can to make others aware of how great a game DDR is and how special the kids who play DDR are. It's really a pity that the parents don't pay more attention to the game. It's very important to the kids, and the kids deserve to be recognized for their achievement. I guess maybe that's why they have accepted me so very well. They enjoy having an adult around who appreciates the game.
Okay, you must be wondering what level I play at after a couple of months. At home, I play MAX2 mostly, though I have DDR, DDRMAX, and Konamix as well. On MAX2, I've passed quite a few 5 footers on STANDARD and I've passed a few 6 footers too. Not all of these can I do consistently, but I'm improving a bit each day. Some of the harder 5 footers still have me stumped. Seven footers are still beyond me. I have passed (at least once) all five of the HEAVY 5-footers on DDRMAX2. I can score an A on many songs on LIGHT now. I forget, but I have a AA on something very easy. For me, that's real progress, and I'm proud of it.
My goal is to get good enough to play comfortably at the arcades, and to SHAME everyone who is too chicken to give DDR at least a TRY. _________________

Play until you can't or until you're sick of it. The latter will probably come first.
That's all that needs to be said on this topic. Next question, please. _________________

Yup, there's an age limit. Says it right on the back of the machine:
"For ages 12-25, do not play while operaterating heavy machinery or if you are pregnant, have a heart condition and a dog named woofie."
You do realize that in Japan acades are not just aimed at kids. When DDR was popbular salerymen (old people in suits) would play it IN THE SUIT.
I'm more and more disturbed every time this thread comes up that there are so many people out there that thinks that you life has to get boring when you reatch a certain age, or get married, or whatever.
Do you think there is an age limit on touch football or ultimate? Why should DDR be any different? Why should video games not be for adults. Many of them are designed not to be for children, so they have to get their market somewhere.
Do you really think 30 year olds have to slow down? 40 year olds? My grandmother is 82 and is only just slowing down now and I think it's more from stress than from her age.
28, married, and I can pass almost anything. |

Ok peoples lets just all calm down... When it comes to things like this I never take any side. I am 18 so I don't know where I can consider myself as but I don't care... I say that even though it says a limit for those who can play ddr doesn't mean that u can't play it. I know a 10 year old who can pass almost every song on heavy and people over 25 who are pretty good at ddr. And if u think of it, when u look at the rating for the home version...all I remember is seeing MILD LYRICS... Come on now u know that we all fit those standards... And kids under the age of 12 peobably don't even care about the words to the song either. So I say that anybody can play if they want to ITS A PUBLIC GAME 4 CRYIN OUT LOUD! It doesn't matter how old u are, as long as ur having fun playing the game and respect others who enjoy the game also... And I think becuz I think this way, I never get dissed but respected from young and old. And as for one persons own personal limit.....it is their own choice to make when they finally decide to stop playin.... Hope everyone who reads this thinks about it and hopefully we shall play ddr in harmony (I know that sounded so corny...the harmony thing but that's all I could think of for a good ending =P ) |

I say, play it until you can't play no more. If you snowboard and break your anckle (spelling??) or something like that, I would stoop playing for a year or so. But by then I would suck like anything, and all of the younger generation would be past me in skill on flask moves. So, until you can't and for me, that will be until I break something snowbaording. |

I so wish I could say, "I'm 34, I play with my 8yr old son, and I can pass anything!!!"
...but I can't. I can only pass anything light and some standard.
However, most kids his age have memories of their moms folding laundry, maybe watching them play games or something. My son Paris and I play DDR together everyday, talkin' trash and laughing until we fall down, yelling "SWITCH!!!" and then scrambling to the other person's pad. How great is that?
I will always be a mom. A mom that says, "clean up that room! Brush your teeth! And then get down here right now, young man -- I choose Jam and Marmalade, and I 0W|\| you!"

There shouldn't be any age limit on DDR, I mean it does say rated "E" for everyone right? I mean come on! don't be hatin' on the old folks now *shakes cane* j/k. But I'm only 18 and I don't see a problem with people who are like 56 doing it, I wouldn't even mind dancing along side them either _________________

The only people UNDER 20-something I've seen play DDR were my little sister and cousins, when I brought my PS2 and pads to our family reunion. I learned about the game from a friend (with a JPS2 and imports) and play mostly at home or at another friend's house -- she has a weekly DDR playing-session before her movie night.
The older crowd probably, in general, improves more slowly. I'm flabbergasted by people who are like "I played three times in the arcade and just beat my first Heavy song". While the friends I play with are at varying levels, most better than I am, we've all been improving at about the same rate. When I finally started being able to play Standard consistently, the people who'd been playing Standard while I was playing Light were on Heavy, and the one or two who was on Beginner for anything that had Light steps over 2 feet were finally playing all-Light.
It's been about a foot per month for all of us who have home games, after getting the first 2 feet down in the first few times. One guy is finally passing a lot of catas, and there are a few people working on 8s. |
