I've tried everything to memorize Let's Groove but I'll always mess up on one arrow and then throw myself off and blah blah blah until I fail.

I can't even fread the stepchart. Why are there like 16th notes everywhere!?

How well can you do on the song on normal play?

It's probably best to try memorizing a song you
* enjoy playing
* has limited off-beat steps or at least predictable ones
* and one that you can "pass blindfold" in a figurative sense =-)

Also, what difficulty are you trying to learn it at? Keep in mind if you're planning on playing 8x speed or stealth, most people won't notice if you play on Standard or maybe even Light. And those who can either don't care, or are both better than you AND don't care... If you're trying to memorize a song, I'm guessing you're doing it for fun, so choose a difficulty you have fun with.
Heavy is overrated -_-

Usually, you just play it over and over again until you can just see it in your head. riiight.gif But that's not for everyone...

With the step chart... are you sure you have the right difficulty? And I think that some songs have alternate arrow patterns. My friend got aggitated since his Konami Mix game for PS is different than 4th Mix Plus. He was playing one of the Kaoki songs and he claims it was alot different than what he had been playing at home.

I memorize in chunks....as certain parts go up I usually have a vague idea what to expect and it hits me at the last moment....kind of like how I memorize lines for a production.

it's not that hard

it's mostly just patterns that u are gonna see over and over and over.

but that's if you play the song over and over and over. that's how i do it now and days.

Cant read the step chart? What the...how do you NOT read the step chart. Just arrows going up to down in an order. 16th notes? Are you trying heavy or something? I find that odd.

Shouldnt this be in gameplay as well?

Use Training Mode on a PS2 version, and memorize it one measure at a time (for Light/Standard) or one run at a time (Heavy). Also, note patterns in the steps. I've noticed that Konami likes to put LDUR, RDUL, LUDR, and RUDL in "flowing" songs like Sobakasu. Then there's LURUL, RULUR, LDRDL, and RDLDR, which aren't as overused, but show up a lot.

Here's an example. This is Sobakasu's long 8th note run near the end (from memory):
RULURLUDRUDLUDRLDRDLUDRLDUDLURDULD

Notice where the patterns fit in. (LDUR isn't in this specific run, but it shows up a lot in the rest of the song.)
LUDR: RULURLUDRUDLUDRLDRDLUDRLDUDLURDULD
RUDL: RULURLUDRUDLUDRLDRDLUDRLDUDLURDULD
RDUL: RULURLUDRUDLUDRLDRDLUDRLDUDLURDULD

Many times, one pattern will 'flow' into the next:
RULURLUDRUDLUDRLDRDLUDRLDUDLURDULD

This is effective for memorizing songs, but since you're memorizing by patterns, you'd better learn those patterns well.

Maybe do some hand movements to help? I am guessing that you are doing Light or Standard. Like if there is an UP arrow, raise your hands or something. If there is a RIGHT arrow, put your right hand to your right. So you end up dancing and moving your arms.

You should try freestyling. It is fun and it looks better in my opinion. It is easier to memorize a song if you are freestyling it cuz you got all kinds of cool moves and you just gotta remember where those moves come in at. Instead of remembering arrows you can try to remember a sequence of moves.

Did someone say Let's Groove? Are you talking heavy? It's one of my stealths, and even though its onyl a fc 219, its still pretty tricky. There aren't any patterns except for the beginning.

This song the only thing I can suggest is practice. It's not stamina draining or fast, so your sole problem is remembering where the steps are. Practice the first 1/3 of the song (I don't know if you've memorzied the whoel thing yet or waht). over and over and over until you're sure you have at down. Then add a few bars, and always always practice the song from beginning to end, never in sections.

The way I memorize the stepchart is by Stepmania. Helps remember BPM changes and stuff like that.

Oh wow... uh... yeah. I've been playing entirely too much DDR for the past 6 months. Home version; I play... yeah. Too much. I haven't memorized anything. I don't think I could. Oh well.

Hmmmmmm well like myself and many others, they dont rely on Step mania/DWI mostly due to the fact that some songs are way off base step wise and concording to the BPM as well. In correlation to DWI files being off sync. The ones I've played were on tune though. But when I play DWI etc. on my friends computer I play on heavy. Dont see a purpose in playing with my fingers on basic.
