Some guy wrote a whole page criticizing Dance Dance Revolution because it supposedly got confused with DDR RAM, the memory.
here is the page. http://dragunfyre.com/rants/ddrev.html
read it first and then read the rest of my post, including my response to him.
Naturally after reading it, i wanted to reply. So i did. I e-mailed him, pretending to be a representative of Konami of America. It was fun.
Here is what I wrote:

It has come to our attention that you have been saying terrible things about our product, Dance Dance Revolution. We feel no harm in you expressing your opinions on the subject of the nickname DDR being confused with DDR RAM, but there are many flaws in your argument. So, it for this reason that I, Happeepanda, as a representative of Konami of America, must correct your statements. Much of your information is corrupt.
First of all, regarding the confusion between the acronym DDR and DDR RAM. Even if someone says Dance Dance Revolution is a horrible game, and they use the term "DDR," nobody will confuse it with DDR RAM because obvious to most DDR RAM is not a game. It is not something you can like or dislike, it is something in a computer, something that must be there. There is no 'like' about DDR RAM, therefore people know that DDR refers to something completely different.
Next, Dance Dance Revolution has nothing to do with karaoke. There is no singing involved, but there once was. When DDR went international, 3rd Mix was the newest version. Many different varities of DDR 3rd Mix were created. One of them involved karaoke, but only two of these machines were created, and they still reside in Japan.
Also, drugs are not involved with the Dance Dance Revolution scene. Konami does not promote the use of drugs, nor do we advertise for them in our games. The only time that happened was once in one mix called DDR Solo 2000. That mix had controversy because syringes were shown in the backgrounds of some of the songs. We learned from our mistake, and have not shown anything like that since, and we do not plan to.
Moving on, Ricky Martin has no affiliation with Konami of America, Konami of Japan, Dance Dance Revolution, or any of the other games in our Bemani section. The hit song "Living la Vida Loca" was never put into Dance Dance Revolution though. This was due to licensing problems. However, we were able to get a song that he had sung before, but it was not sung by him. Patrick Vittorio, Ricky Martin's cover, sang the song "La Copa de la Vida" for DDR 8th mix.
Pertaining to the Dance Dance Revolution tournaments, if you had looked deep enough you would have noticed that main competitions exist for the technical side of DDR. Freestyle is another category that employs creativity and dance into something mechanical. It is their wish if they would like to hold and participate in these competitions.
Another issue, Brittney Spears has no affiliation with Konami of America, Konami of Japan, Dance Dance Revolution, or any of the other games in our Bemani section. The game "Brittney's Dance Beat" is a copy of Dance Dance Revolution. She did not lend her name to Konami for the purposes of that game. Konami did not create "Brittney's Dance Beat."
As for the issue of DDR Original soundtracks. These are considered original soundtracks because rising original artists are hired to create music for the game before they release their original albums. Toshiba-EMI produces the CD's in the Dancemania series as well as game soundtracks such as DDR. And there are not tons of different CD's for the game. Toshiba-EMI sells Dancemania CD's as well, and those are the majority of the CD's. There are only about 10-15 CD's for the game, because that is how many different versions exist. The rest of the CD's are part of the Dancemania series.
Regarding the issue of "DDR shoes," no such thing exists. Konami of America, and Konami of Japan have not released "DDR shoes" and we never plan to. Therefore, there are no different styles to choose from, and no company will market them, because they do not exist.
Thank you for regarding my comments, and I can only ask you to post these on your website. Please consider revising your "rant."
Thank You for your time,
Happeepanda of KoA, Konami of America.
P.S. There is no battle between usefullness of DDR RAM and the game Dance Dance Revolution. Sorry.
Thank You. |
