check the last post of page 35.... I made a flash movie of the solder point.... its too easy to understand ?? (its only a draw of PCB because picture a too big to import)
Edit : here

I added Topway pad (p.s. you could put that link into the first post ) _________________

NOT COOL... I have two dance pads I made, one is a ddrhomepad design, and the other is a Patser design. I wanted to play doubles, so I made an adapter for the ddrhomepad to sit on to be the corect height. The problem I am continuously having is that my controllers get fried so often. I went through 3 of them (all diferent brands) in two days. in total, I had to replace the controller about 6 times already. Now I am frusterated. I can only play a few songs before something stops responding. This leads me to think that there must be one f*ck of a bad static buildup somewhere. Even when I use the good expensive controllers outside of the pad, something happens. With all the wires and extra buttons in mine, I don't know where to start looking for problems.
Who else has had a terible experience with controller frying? |

Well, could you do one with a mad catz controller or some different one? I'd really appreciate it. |

710. Posted: Thu Jun 19, 2003 6:34 pm Post subject: The Arrows Won't Work |
|
|
I apologize if this has been answered, but it would be difficult to search literally hundreds of pages of posts for the answer to my question.
I have been having trouble with getting the arrows to register properly. Most of the time, holding an arrow down causes the arrow to be pressed rapid-fire (while releasing it stops the rapid-fire). Other times, though less frequently, an arrow doesn't register although I know it's pressed down. Could someone provide some general troubleshooting guidelines for these problems?
The problems may be related to the fact that all of the wires were extended by connection to another wire. My dad showed me a professional way of doing this, using plastic connectors. |

Non analog official sony ps gamepad. Don't listen to everyone who says their harder to solder to, it just requires u to scrape a lil of the black stuff off which isn't hard at all. |

I realize this is a stupid question, but I simply do not understand electrical work. I am attempting to build ddrhomepad's pad. But I do not understand where the wiring inthe pad itself goes. Can someone make a crude diagram for me, or point me to one? Also, can someone exlpain how the wires make it respond when I step on an arrow? Is it like 2 pieces of metal that compress on a wire to form a circuit, or what?
Thanks |

I havn't posted in a couple weeks (I have tons of posts in pages in the 20s w/ links to pics of how to build my pad), but I have an update about a couple of problems I was having.
One of my problems was that the arrows had to move too far down to make contact. The other problem was the pad was so loud (not squeaky though), just loud from the metal hitting metal with every step.
I fixed both of these problems by adding washers under the beefman corner braces. This raised them up (maybe about 1mm) and now the arrow panels don't have to move down nearly as much and it's a lot more sensitive. The noise has also been greatly reduced. Theres now just a tiny click noise when you step instead of a loud click. It feels exactly like an arcade pad now.
Oh but as for squeaking....if you have squeaking problems that means your measurements aren't accurate enough. It's the sound of the plexiglass rubbing against the triangle wood pieces, which shouldnt be happening. That friction is causing the arrows to not be as responsive as they should be. I'd suggest trimming a little bit off the plexiglass if you're having those problems. _________________

hey you guys im making a pad and its almost done except i cant get this soldering right . Iv tried twice but i gues im not good enough to get these small solder points. If i send someone the materials would someone be willing to do it for me if i paid them a little bit of cash to ? |

Sweet! Also, you'd need to tell me what kind of mad catz controller it is. It doesn't have to be a mad catz... just a controller that I get access to.
Also, I really owe you when you get that done and I get my pad going...how about I give you 10$ canadian? We both are in Canada so there won't be any stupid exchange rates. |

haha why not hehe... but... you can use any ps controler you want. But if you really want a madcatz Ill try to find a picture of the PCB and do the solder point plan.
You can also use a sony controller (old non-analog one) and use the what I already done in the flash movie _________________

tisbj, It seems like the contact aren't making good contact. Try making sure everything is even and and solders don't get in the way of the metal touching (Solder is a bad conductor)
AcidBurnISU, the ground wire is connected to one piece of sheetmetal and the 'hot' wire is connected to the other. When you step on the button the sheetmetal connects and a circuit is formed.
Also I'll try and make a diagram once I get everything re-installed on my computer. _________________

No, I can't use any ps controller because I'm hopeless with soldering but with your diagrams of holy light, I might be able to make it. |
